Evnroll Zero - 2024

I think what they have done with this is brilliant.

They're offering a good line of their putter models with an option to make it "zero" torque. The caveat is I know they are not truly zero but very low torque.

I think the learner curve or address position will be lessened with these. The LAB DF3 you have the shaft way behind you causing forward shaft lean and it is an odd feel to line that way.

Plus since all these models are modular, so if you do not like the onset neck you can always just take it out and put a normal one in. Looking like a win win here.

This appears to be their attempt at a zero.  Expect some of the other manufacturers to come on here and act like a bunch of douches and say that they fail their proprietary tests, which they have before with other brands.  However, this is probably as good as any of them if it fits your fancy.

Please tell us how you really feel about LAB.

They have always made good tools.  What are you wanting to know?  About the onset necks?  If so, they putt fine once you get used to looking at them.  🙂

Not wanting to know anything specific about the product, just want to see what others think. Personally, i like wide blades, always have. During my Ping PLD fitting, I was fit into a wide blade.

I recently tried to get on the LAB Broomstick kick, but i am struggling with it. Probably need to give it more time. But now that there is a wide blade zero/low torque putter coming available from Evnroll, I am in for trying one.

Does anyone know if these are designed to be used with the gravity grip?

if you go on the site and build a custom model you can add a gravity grip.  With the theory of zero torque, the putter itself based on design is going to want to stay square to the path and the grip shouldn’t matter unless it causes you to manipulate the putter with your hands.

I love Evnroll's bolt-in hosel designs.  That allows for more options, tweaking, and interchangeability.  If it's not exactly as good as LAB on a Revealer, it can be made so with hosel tweaks.  It's good for manufacturing:  Doesn't waste milling away metal for a one piece head with hosel.  Doesn't rely on weld.  Downsides are that it can look weird, and it can be a little off alignment depending on the fit in the head or if it gets a little bent.

I think it's time LAB came out with a wide blade though... 😉

These are out on the floor at my local Golf Galaxy. I've gotta admit, I thought they'd look a bit funky, but after playing around with them for a few minutes... nope, cannot possibly use a backwards hosel. It's hideous and really feels like you're playing a left handed putter. Hate, hate, hate. I took maybe 7 or 8 putts and promptly put it back on the rack, never to be touched again.

I used the original LAB with a buddy on the golf course. Just could not get used to it. Buddy that had it said the large size of the putter head would get hung up on the fringe of the green, and he sometimes drop kicked the putter with putts on the green. The newer Mezz Max putters are a bit better, but the sound and feel are not there for me.

I have used Evnroll putters for awhile, but liked a long blade length, I now use the Phantom 11 and Ping Tomcat. Steel putters, good feel and sound, longer blade length.

I went to the PXG store here and tried the Allen putter. Looked good and felt soft, but deadly on the practice green. I thought that I could get used to it. Bought it. When I received it, I played 18 holes with it and boy did I struggle. The shaft lean just messed me up big time. I sent it back the next day.

Okay, now the Evnroll Zero Mallet appears. Watched the videos and reviews, then went to PGA SS to see if they had it. Rolled it on the putting green, the normal looking hosel and straight shaft had way less shaft lean than the LAB or Allen. Looked “normal”, loved the feel, sound and roll. The mallet Zero is something that I feel I could putt well with. Blade length longer than the Phantom 11. Hmmmmmm . . .

Of the 2 value propositions, I think Evnroll has the stronger theoretical case because speed control matters more than start line.

Practiced with a Evnroll Z today and I feel it is a very nice putter that exhibits very little torque.  If LAB tech just doesn't work for you, this would be well worth exploring.  For me it felt much more sweet than the Allan I tried.  I will be sticking with the DF3.

Not trying to be critical in any way, I'm just not certain that I'm clear as to specifically what the "2 value propositions" point is referencing.

As an aside, depending on the green, each of us has a specific distance at which we are trying to actually get the line correct.  Even pros sometimes think they have the line right and then try to power it in minimizing break or wind influences.  But on those times when they are wrong, they can easily wind up with a 3-4 foot return putt.  Even they can sometimes "jab" the muscled putt release instead of stroking it, which occasionally makes things worse.

One of the reasons many find the LAB putters minimize 3 putts is due to the gravity powered pendulum swing.  We might misjudge the amount of gravity force needed but the accidental muscle powered jab is pretty much eliminated.  So, after 20 years with my Scotty CT, which I still love, "accidents" is one aspect of the release muscle powered swing that I do not miss.  I can equate that the gravity powered swing is "safer" when it comes issues of speed control.

All the zero torque or should I say, you won’t believe it’s not Zero Torque putters, they would have the same “gravity” powers stroke, even though it’s definitely not just gravity.

Poor mechanics are poor mechanics, speed control has exponentially more to do with overall weight/swing weight as well as contact surface area of the face.

No worries. The 2 value propositions are:

Evnroll's primary value proposition is its grooves that are supposed to help with delivering consistent distances across a larger part of the face.

LAB's primary value proposition is you do not have to worry about start line.

Whether or not it actually does that is going to be individual. (I personally have not found either to work for me as intended).  But, I find that most golfers focus on start line more than controlling pace.  The right pace is more important since:

1) Pace and slope determines your line

2) The right pace (capture speed) maximizes the amount of the hole that is receptive to a putt dropping vs. lipping out. This means you have more room for error on line.

3) The right pace minimizes 3 putts by putting you into that magical 3 ft range more often.

Given the above, I think the the stronger value proposition is pace control rather than line.  But again, whether that tech works for someone will be individual.

I thought the Evnroll grooves technically help with both distance control AND line?

Either company believes that they have a zero.  Another company says that they are not since they fail on their proprietary machine, but what would you expect them to say as a competitor?  Either they all can make claims about their "tech," or none of them can... it is not like you need any of it to be a good putter of the golf ball, so it is all ambiguous or academic at some point.

I play a Mezz, and eagerly tried the Zero, the one with the hole, at the PGASS. I was attracted to the idea of no shaft lean.

But I didn’t like it.  I felt as if I needed to lean it.  I could not get comfortable with it.  It might be a good one for someone who is coming from a more conventional putter.

🤷‍♂️

Please understand that the tool was created to validate their putter.  That is it.  While probably not far off from zero, it is likely no better than the rest and other companies can create The Investigator or The Validator to fail a LAB and pass their own.  Beware of companies validating their own stuff ala Enron buying off AE or Theranos testing their own tests.  Of course it will always show that the competition is lacking and they are the only ones who are right.

Anybody remember Major League II where Rick "Wild Thing" Vaughn named his pitches and that dude hit one so he got to name it The Masterbater?  This all feels like that to me, only Major League II folks were in on the joke.
