Thought I missed my opportunity until I read through that diatribe of rules on the first page.. 😤😄

WITB 1 Jan 25:

Ping G430 LST 10.5, Ventus Blue+ 6X

Ping G430 Max 3, Chrome 2.0 75X

Titleist TSR2 7, Tensei Raw White 85X

Mizuno S23 50/54bent55/60, DG S400

Cleveland Frontline Elite 1.0, 35", SS Zenergy Pistol GT 2.0 w/ 25g weight

The biggest threat to the bag would be the Chrome 2.0 shaft changing out before my club championship in August, so I'll go +500 to make it until July 31st.

Putter is primary risk as I have an armlock in the garage that could go in any moment. Potentially a new driver could happen.

Well, I done f'ed up a a ron. I got out my launch monitor and swing stick, and had a range session.  The problem is, I haven't even had the driver fully built yet. So I'm going to be out tomorrow the 2nd or Friday the 3rd. I don't know if I really had a chance, but it's annoying to drop out on a brain fart. I guess I'll take solace that I somehow dropped out without swinging an actual club probably 3 months before I can even get on a course.

Well, I've gone all in.  Used the day off yesterday to list my extra clubs to help reduce the temptation.  Already sold three drivers, and looks like my putter may also have some interest.  Leaves me with just one FW and one H to get rid of.

Would like a ruling on something @Dan Drake just to ensure I'm maintaining the spirit of the competition.

#1 - I do have a bag of old Hogans that I like to take out every now and then just for a fun "vintage" round.  This is not tinkering or swapping clubs, just an old bag for occasional use.  Is this allowed under BISC rules?

#2 - Someone shows up at the course with a new club, and says I should try hitting it (usually a $900 driver with exotic shaft).  Is this allowed?

First time I've signed up for this bloody challenge, and I'd like to ensure I'm following ALL of the rules.

Should have changed out the 4 and 5 irons for CB's before the year started. Then you would have a chance.

Cobra woods look really nice, they could last with the right shaft.

When does your season start, mid April?

I think the wedges are the biggest risk---i'm already looking at some customized Hi-TOE wedges, just can't decide what to write because "Pimpin' ain't easy" was too many characters!

My RTX6 have been great for me performance wise but they feel really clunky

@ScooterMcTavish Here are the answers to your BISC questions:

1. This is not allowed unfortunately, even though I wish it was because I have multiple 1/2 sets, vintage sets, and even left-handed sets that I like to play throughout the year.  But that's just not what this challenge is.  FWIW, I didn't come up with this foolish endeavor, I just (somehow) became the unwitting successor.

2. Yes, this is certainly allowed.  As long as you don't have an agreement with said friend that they show up at the course with a new club that you gave to them for the specific purpose of bringing along to the course so that you can hit it without violating any of the BISC rules.  Seems far-fetched and silly, I know, but we BISC'ers are degenerates and ne'er do-wells by nature, so I don't put anything past anyone here!

Thanks @Dan Drake and I agree about our general degeneracy.

Have not yet swung a club in 2025 (even in my garage simulator) so looks like I still have decisions to make before locking things in.  Still debating what to do at the top end of the bag, so may need a few more weeks, LOL.

I played on NYE and NYD. My bag changed between rounds. However, here is my setup from yesterday's round:

Driver - Callaway Ai Smoke ♦♦♦ 10.5° Ventus Velocore+ Blue 6X

Fairway Wood - Callaway Ai Smoke ♦♦♦ 18° Mitsubishi Kai'li White 70X

Hybrid - Callaway Ai Smoke HL 21° Project X Cypher 2.0 70 6.0

Irons - Titleist T150 5-GW True Temper AMT Black S300

Wedges - Titleist Vokey SM9 52-10 F, 56-08 M, 60-08 M

Putter - Titleist Scotty Cameron Circa 62 No 2 1st of 500

I will fully admit that I will likely change my putter often. I have several putters that I alternate using depending on what suits my eye. I tend to change it up every month or so just to have a different look over the ball, as well as for different green speeds (heavier and lighter heads).

I also have some wedges with different grinds that I'll substitute depending on the course and/or conditions I'm playing in.

But I'm very happy with all the clubs in my arsenal and have no intention of buying anything new anytime soon. Of course this probably means I'll upgrade to SM10 wedges next week...lol.

I'm not even going to bother.  My goal is to not BUY any additional clubs this year, but I'll certainly swap in various clubs that I already own.  Oh, and I'll surely fail at that goal as well 🤦‍♂️

In a parallel universe, there is a version of this contest where #1 is legal when accompanied by appropriate "vintage" golf attire and a photo posted as evidence and open to merciless ridicule, kinda like larping. I would almost be willing to give a free pass if someone was willing to commit to the full Payne Stewart treatment just to get their fix.

LOL, after hitting it on the garage sim on New Year's Eve, I've decided to pull it out of the bag.  Thinking of going 5W-4h instead of 4W - 3h.  Regardless, have not yet swung a club in 2025, so still have some time to figure this out.  And am patiently waiting for some aggressive pricing on (possibly) a Dynapower 5W and 4h.  Really do like the Hzrdus Smoke Red paired with these lower spin heads.

I love this idea.  And if the rules are "100% vintage", then nothing made after say 1985 - so no excuse to put a V-Steel or old Burner Bubble back into play.

Perhaps an amendment to the rules is necessary, I'll bring it up at the next BISC Board meeting!

Well, since we're open to the discussion, how about the player must dress "period correct" for what they're playing, including haircut?

Was always partial to 1970s fat Jack, and I already own this pair of pants.

I will not hold strong for long as I need to change up a lot this year. I need a stronger lofted 3w, 5w or 2ir, different shaft in the 3w (Ventus red launches to the moon), need to change up gapping in irons which will lead to different wedges. I predict I will have a completely overhauled bag by summer. Oops.

Putter:

Odyssey Tri-Hot 5K Double-Wide

Causes for concern:

1) I somehow convinced myself of the idea that I need more offset in my clubs after looking at Langer's clubs for too long. In this spirit, I bought the irons and wedges with the most offset that I could find. Given that I have never seen these clubs in real life (they are currently on their way from Japan), this could make for a tough awakening in early Jan.

2) Putter is always a concern and I would be astonished if I make it to the middle of the year with my current one.

Prediction:

I typically play one round in the freezing cold in January. The chance that I switch something after that round is high.

So the irons and wedges arrived today and I think we are in with a fighting chance. I like the extra offset look.
