Odds of any of that still lasting past the end of January?  Well, the driver (as long as you don't count the ongoing and relatively constant Surefit setting tweaks I make as my elbow issues flare up from time to time), 3W, wedges, and putter are all pretty safe, though there's a bit of an itch to say to *&#@ with sore elbows and wrists and go back to my Tour Issue X100 shafts in my wedges instead of graphite...as for the irons?  Not likely they make the summer, but one never knows...maybe I find some consistency in the simulator or when walking the wet and sloppy course this winter.  I might be convinced to swap the P-UDI for a Srixon ZX Utility if I find one as cheap as I found one for my son last summer, especially with a decent shaft in it.

 

Yeah, so the prediction about being set with my putter lasted about 6 days (quite literally).  MGS offered me a chance to review the Void Saber V2 putter, and well, I loved it and mostly quit 3 putting ever, soooo, it's in the bag.

 

Then, of course, I did an iron fitting over Spring Break, and well, you can see the results in the current signature below...some beautiful Mizuno Pro S-3 irons...and we won't even begin to talk about the wedges...nope...I failed...miserably. I mean, my ball choice isn't even the same.  Utter failure all around! 🤔 😢 😫

Welp, I'm out.

 

Not going back through 14 pages to quote myself, but I caved and did something I swore I'd never do again - I bought a brand new club.

 

Went with the GT280, which I suspect will very soon be replacing both my BRNR and my G425 5 wood.

 

I think I did pretty darn well.  Logged 4 whole rounds during the GHIN season.

 

For what it's worth, I am really happy with the rest of the bag.  I'm slightly interested in the TSR1 hybrid as a replacement for the 7 wood, but not dying to make any other changes for now.

 

It's been fun.  See you all next year.

Welp, I lied. The problem was that I now had irons that had a trade in value and a glut of wedges in the bag. So the old Irons, the 915H 21 degree, my old Utility iron, and my 50 and 54 degree wedges have been traded in. They have been replaced with a 7W, 4H, and a 52 degree wedge. So it doesn't count but the bag is now going to be set for the year (because I can't justify spending any more money on clubs).

Pulled 52deg wedge and put 3 hybrid back in. I tried using 52 for all the short chips around d green today. Just not for me.   Going back to my gap wedge, it's 48deg and going to practice facility to work on chips and short pitches. We played in some serious wind today and I could have really used that 20deg hybrid. My #2 hybrid is set to 14 deg and it's just too much club sometimes. 

 

Either way I really need some practice time i read about a food drill.

Pace out 20, 30, 40, 50 yards and hit practice shots like playing horse. If you miss you go back to beginning.  Probably use 56deg  and 60deg for those shots and see what works best.

Then I will setup on fringe and practice chipping close to pin.

So, this thread isn't really meant for too many serious responses, but I'll toss one in here.

 

Figure out if you are:

1. Better able to control your speed (will likely lead to better success using one "work horse" club for the vast majority of distance wedges,

2. Better able to control positions (which will likely lead to better success using multiple clubs and a bit more of a "clock" system), or

3. Neither/both (which will likely lead to a bit more of an Andrew Rice-style partial wedge system).  

 

Once you have a reasonable defined answer to that question, you can move on to gapping and grinds.  But until you know the answer to the above, IMHO, you aren't going to be able to optimize your wedge setup.

I’m sure Dan will confirm but the rules state the below so you should be fine.

I guess I am a week willed tinkerer. 

Shot scope data collection is a double edged sword. It's great having real data, but it's hard not to use that data to justify equipment changes. 

So I have decided to change loft and lie of my hybrids. 

I have mizuno clk hybrids 

#2 16 deg

#3 19 deg

#4 22 deg 

#5 25 deg

I typically only carry 2 or 3 hybrids.

Stock gaps are way to close for me so I typically set it up as follows

#2 14 deg

#3 20 deg

# 5 25 deg. 

I changed to following to get a more neutral club face and an upright lie. My miss on the delofted 2hy is a slice. So I am settig it up at stock 16deg 3up. 

Gonna see what neutral club face and 3 up does to ball flight..

So here is new hybrid config

#2 16deg upright

#4 22deg upright

#5 27deg closed face.

How do you like steelfiber 95?

I bought a set of ping i219 in steelfibers torrent last summer and liked the shafts but not enough to supplanted my miz 923 forged. I am playing dg 105 s.

Considering graphite to help reduce risk of recurring tendinitis in left elbow and I dont think the dg wprk well when I dial back my swing .

I'm epically failing this challenge... So far in 2025:

5 wood- kinda changed, 1 the same, 1 testing as a 4 wood loft

7 wood- changed

utility-changed

iron set- changed multiple times

wedges- changed nearly weekly.  actually, definitely weekly

putter- wouldn't have changed but hit the lotto and get to test review an OZ so changed.

bag- changed

ball- changed

 

shoes- shoes are the same.  #winning

I like the steelfibers.  I came from x100, so it was quite a change and took some getting used to.   I'm 54 so it was kinda time. 

 

The stiff are plenty stiff, so I think they play stiffer than their rating so to speak.  I use i80s on the 3 and 4 irons.  i95 for the remainder.  

 

Great feel, though.  Distance and dispersion are great.  Part of that is the heads, I'm sure.  Best feeling irons I have ever hit, and it continues to be a herculean task to unseat them.
