Retiring In Pinehurst - Working @ Pinehurst, Pine Needles, Tobacco Rd etc

Good Afternoon,

 

I am in the process of retiring in the next 5 years and have started to look at affordable areas to retire.  Pinehurst seems like an amazing option for golf lovers like myself because the housing is so affordable.  There are plenty of expensive homes in the area but I have seen a number of houses and condo's that are around $200,000 which seems amazing.

 

I have also started to look at possible jobs with golf perks and was blown away and how many jobs are available at Pinehurst, Mid Pines, Pine Needles, Tobacco Rd etc.  All of them offer free or heavily discounted golf around $5.  I am sure you have to be flexible and I am confident if you want to play #2 or #4 there is an upcharge and it's alot tougher to get on but the thought of having cheap golf and working 2-3 days a week seems very attractive.  I would also assume you would meet a ton of retired guys doing the same thing so you would have a social circle pretty soon.

 

I currently work at a top 100 public along with a soon to be top 100 private in Michigan and have made so many friends already by working at these courses.  I love being at the course a few days a week being at bag drop, ranger or any outside services job.

 

Anyone on this forum live or work at these courses.  Pretty easy to get on courses if you are flexible assuming you don't always want to play #2 or #4.  Any feedback would be great!

I played Tobacco Road in 2023 and got paired up with a young guy that worked maintenance at the Pinehurst resort. He said they had good golf privileges at the resort, but it was always busy and tough to actually play much. But he also said that they had deals at some of the other local courses. I think he said he was playing TR for next to nothing.. not sure how that works, but it sounds like a great idea. After doing 2 trips to the Southern Pines area, I would move there in a second. I worked maintenance at a private club up here in Canada for 20 years... all through school, and part time after graduating, just to get free golf along the way. I didn't really pay for much golf until I was in a position to buy a membership.

Just checked the weather. 51 here in Winston-Salem. 65 in Pinehurst. It’s usually a bit warmer in Pinehurst, but that’s a bit unusual.
