50 gram driver shaft reports

Recommended Posts

I’ve been enjoying the Project X Denali red 50 gram shaft 5.5 flex in my driver and I swing between 97-100mph. Feels smooth and doesn’t feel whippy at all.

Any updates on Hzrdus Red 50 5.5?

I’ve read good reviews for 85-95 mph swingers.

Still using it on my TSR and love it. So much so that I just bought another for a qi10 head.

Only had it out for 9 holes so far. Hit my longest drive in years on one hole. And my first OB in about 6 months on another. So there’s that.

You’re not wrong. Honestly this shaft doesn’t feel whippy to me.

That said, the tsr has been pretty straight. Even lofted much lower than the qi. The wildcard so far is shaft length. The shaft in the qi is 1/2” longer than the tsr. So again, back to timing right?

maybe I’ll just cut it down…

I have tried numerous 50 gram shafts including Riptide, Denali, Brava, Autoflex, Proxima, and Tour AD and my 2 favorites are the Newton-3 Star and Accra FX3.0 140 M1 .Both provide great numbers (Trackman) with good consistency. I am using a TM Qi10 LS head. For reference, I am 70yo, play to a 3.4 index with a driver SS of 89-93.

I've played/play the Autoflex since it came out. Also have a Proxima that I play from time to time, especially on windy days.

How would you compare the Newton shaft to them?

I'm 68 with a 6ish hcp and average SS of 93 - 95.

I had it in my tsr2 and during my recent fitting I hit it that well we considered transferring it into my gt1. Then I tried the Denali red in the gt1 and the accuracy and extra ten yards blew the Hzrdus red out the water for me. I swing 95-98mph with the driver, for reference.

Which Denali Red?

The 50 5.5, so the same model as the Hzrdus red cb I was using. The Denali just feels nicer to swing and less boardy.

No idea what SR flex is - but some good deals on DF, RF and BF series.

Some think it's for Senior but I was told by a Shaft Manufacturer that SR indicates Soft Regular

I believe, I could be wrong, soft reg is basically senior shaft anyway

I've been using the Newton Motion 4 Dot shaft for my driver and it's been an incredible shaft for forgiveness and accuracy. I switched to their new Fast Motion shaft which is 10 grams lighter and my speed has picked up without giving up the 2 previously mentioned aspects. The Fast Motion shaft weighs 52 grams uncut and it's perfect for me. I previously used the Ventus TR blue 5S and this outperforms it in the forgivness and accuracy. Newton shafts are not the longest out there (still long), but the other aspects make up for it immensely.

Has anyone tried the Fujikura Ventus+ White in R or senior?   49 gram shaft with less torque than Air Speeder.

I have purchased, and got to hit a Fuji Ventus White 4R2 (senior) shaft this evening in a TSR2 11* driver head, tuned to a bit over 12* (A4).

I have lost a lot of swing speed since last year.  I hit my GT2 11* (turned to 12*) with a Ventus Red 5R - which was my second best tonight.  I hit a Ping G430 12* head with a Ventus TR Red 5R2 - not so good.  Nothing was going well because I was hitting into the wind, and I am struggling.

But I did hit 3 shots in a row with the Ventus White combo which had decent height and actually went somewhere.  And the feel was delightful.  I think I will be playing the Ventus White with either the TSR2 or the GT2 this summer.

Unfortunately Fujikura is not very present in Switzerland.

Do you mean you can't try them or you can't buy them?
If you already know what you want and what fits you, I'd try Nordica Golf. They also have many Fuji models.

I see a gap. There definitely is a gap.

I did Order from Nordica Golf AXIOM shafts, this worked out well. But the possibility to try before buy is nearly inexistent in Switzerland.

I'm 70 and get around on a driver at 84-88 m.p.h. Tried a Prolaunch GWX R-50 and a Hzrdous Red R-50 and couldn't hit fairways regularly. Then I tried the BGT Brava R-50 and bingo. It's definitely a bit longer because it's a sweetspot finder. Fairway finder too.

After my latest experience, I will not order from them anymore.

bumping this thread because its worth while to mention you can use a 50 gram driver shaft and not be under 12 or over 60 today on tour most guys use 60 gram shafts 20 years ago the standard on tour was 70 grams 20 years before that it was steel, in 5 years it will be 50 gram shafts. graphite tech has gotten so good you can make true TX flex shaft in 50 grams. As someone who has a swing speed north of 110 and uses a 50 gram shaft there as so many options. I think that 90% of golfers could benefit from a lighter shaft.

I’m 49 with a SS around 87-91 depending on how loose I am

i game a Qi10 Max 12*. Ordered it with the made for Ventus Blue TR 5R. I gamed it all last season and averaged 224 yards on all drives, with a 244  performance avg.  Come to found out after playing it all season I looked at the shaft more closely and they sent me the 5-A which is senior flex. I had my best driving season ever distance wise along with my most accurate as well at 63% FIR with a 1% OB.
given this, I am not changing it and actually glad they sent me the senior flex by mistake

I'm 59 with a driver swing speed of 95 and just over 2 months ago I attached a 50g HZRDUS Smoke IM10 6.0 shaft to a Ping G400 LST 8.5 head and this has completely changed my game (for the better). However in my case I had already tried 50g HZRDUS Smoke CB 5.5 and 6.0 shafts (with this Ping head) and got disappointing results but I saw the HZRDUS Smoke IM10 6.0 shaft cheap on eBay so took a gamble. I didn't actually notice it was a 50g shaft but just bought as I had previously owned an IM10 6.0 60g driver shaft.

I can't put my recent improvement 100% down to the HZRDUS Smoke IM10 6.0 50g shaft as I am now having lessons every Monday afternoon and also changed the head weight to 21 g.
