callaway adapter question

I'm new to Callaway and picked up a mini driver the other day 11.5 degree.  I changed the loft up 2 degrees (for testing) and noticed the ball seemed to go left more than when it was set to 11.5.  I understand if you change loft up or down it can have the effect of opening or closing the face.  I thought with the Cally adapter that loft and face were separate.  Is that correct?  Overall, I really like this mini driver 🙂

Anytime you add loft via the adapter, you will close the face. Vice versa for taking loft away.

 

What is nice about the Callaway and Titleist adapters is you can adjust loft and lie independent of each other. Not loft and face angle as you thought unfortunately.

 

Best recommendation would be to find a 13.5° lofted head to get the face angle you are seeking.

Would it make sense to keep the +2 loft and set the other ring to S?  Google tells me the S is for Stated loft.  In theory it would not result in a closed-ish face.  Right?  Maybe?  I do plan on more testing this afternoon

The best you can do is +2/N.

+2 is the loft, if you put the other ring on N/S that will result in standard lie.
 

Lie can have an impact on face angle at impact, but in your case you won’t be able to go flat (which could potentially get the ball going further right).

With Callaway you have the options of:

 

-1° Loft and STD Lie

Stated loft and STD Lie

+1° Loft and STD Lie 

+2° Loft and STD Lie

 

OR

 

-1° Loft and 3° Upright Lie (D)

Stated loft and 3° Upright Lie (D)

+1° Loft and 3° Upright Lie (D) 

+2° Loft and 3° Upright Lie (D)

Thanks for the replies and advice.  I'm still testing it out, but so far so good.  My dispersion is a lot better with this mini than my regular drivers.   The big test when i tee it up in a tourney 🙂

Here's picture of how the shaft sits against the adapter for Callaway.  WRT to other comments about decreasing loft opening the face angle.  This is true is you let the head rest against the ground.   But most of us manipulate the clubhead to be square at address.

Face angle is a measurable spec that doesn't have anything to do with what you do at address.  So, changing loft with the adapter always changes the face angle.

 

Also, regardless of what the player might do at address to point the face,  face angle changes alter the visual relationship between the shaft and the head.   For some people that can have a significant effect on how the player takes the grip and set's up to the ball (not to mention any possible psychological effect on confidence).  Which in turn can have a significant effect on the ball flight results.

 

So thinking that simply pointing the face at address or hovering the club and not resting it on the ground will make face angle changes unimportant - is a gross oversimplification.     The short answer is that some people will be sensitive to face angle changes and some will not.  What they might happen to do at address doesn't really play that big of a part in which category a particular player might end up.

 

Side note: while many do manipulate the face address, very few actually square it up.   But fortunately, it's the consistency of where the head points at address that's important, not how square it may or may not be.

I have a sneaking suspicion that +2N for Callaway is not truly neutral and has a bit of upright to it. Guess now you can play a draw, haha.
