Angle of attack with driver. Going to 4-5 up to -1 to 2 AoA.

Yes.  That was part of the process this morning.  Went from a 5 badminton looking tee thing to a 4.  It helped.  Might go to a 3.

I wouldn’t want to follow someone that’s hitting 8° on a ball. That’s way on the extreme. Rory at 5° up is an extreme as well.

 

Who cares what his swing speed is. Keeping the aoa between 1-3° in either direction is ideal and that’s what’s important

Right cause you know better than Willy what he needs.  He says it in the video that he normally plays a fade and is trying to accomodate club loft, then later he gets under one in BOMB mode with +700 spin that goes 357.  But you just know.

You are correct, that’s what Willy wants to do.  
 

I’m not looking to hit 200 ft high 1700 spin 350 yard drives.  That’s not a high enough percentage shot for what I’m looking to do.  Cool on launch monitors though.

What he needs isn’t what anyone else needs. Not to mention that high of an aoa typically leads to a very in to out swing and can cause two miss pretty easily, usually going to be lots of weak right shots

Been working with Jayson Nickol for a little over a year. One tip he gave me when I get a little too up on the driver is to spend some time hitting DOD off a mat at the range. Then hit some regular drivers and alternate back and forth a bit. Seems to being my AoA down pretty quickly.

That’s a interesting tip.  I do like a good DOD.

 

update for the thread.  I’ve been working on this most of the month.  Hitting balls on trackman only looking at aoa, path, and face .   I’m averaging around 2 aoa, 1-2 on path, and 0-1 on face.  My efficiency has gone up on average to 1.48 and I actually picked up about 3 mph club head speed (not explicitly trying for it)

 

the lower tee helped the most.   The other feel that I’m using is feeling like I’m hitting down on the ball.  I’m not, but that’s what it feels like in my brain.  
 

I will probably play around of golf within the next week and excited to see how this translates.

I was going to suggest this. This summer I spent a ton of time in front of a Flightscope working on bringing my ball flight down. I tried a bunch of different things, but found that the most effective change was simply to lower my tee height. My body figured out how to make this work all by itself. I got lower apex, flatter AOA, slightly better smash, a little more spin, and a lower landing angle. So now it is easy for me to dial up the shot I want off the tee.

I know you mentioned using the diy tuneup. Other than tee height, we’re there any other changes you needed to make based on that?

Outside the of the pelvis rotation stuff I’m generally always working and the tee, I’m using an impact bag and working on transferring force into that with what feels like a downward blow (it’s really not but that’s how it feels)

 

About 3 swings starting from p6 into bag, 3 full swings into bag then 3 with balls.

 

i also do the impact stuff when i have some time at home in the yard.  No ball.

Update: I think you were asking if I made any changes to the equipment as im changing the aoa.  The answer is no, haven’t tweaked anything since I got the qi core 8 head tuned to the +5 aoa swing I was putting on the ball a few months ago.

 

I will need to though.  Though not super concerned about the height as the moment as I’m looking more at quality of strike and direction.  It’s launching at about 7-8 degrees and peaking anywhere  from 50-75 feet.   
 

Will need to loft up when interviewing the 2025 drivers in a couple months.  I will say I’ve played around with a gt head at 10 degrees and really likes what it did.  Will be tough to beat that.

im going to spend the rest of this month working on the change and then get refit into 2025 components.  Almost certain will need a 9-10.5 degree head which is unheard of territory for me.
