Scotty CC Damaged - Can it be repaired?

Hi all,  

 

Recently shipped my CC Scotty and UPS managed to bend it in transit.  
 

Thoughts on the likelihood this can be repaired?

Quite likely the hosel can be straightened.  The ding on the sole, likely too.  But as @caniac6 said, it likely will never look or feel right.

It can be repaired. Disagree on the feel comments. You all compressing the ball when you putt or what?

All metals have what is known as Tensile Strength 

when a metal is bent beyond it’s tensile strength it is fatigued and small cracks 

or tears develop and the metal.

The closeup photo shows these small cracks - this cannot be repaired.

Attempts to bend it back or straighten will cause further fatigue to the metal and eventual failure.

That's a UPS claim if I've ever seen one. It can be made playable but it won't be back to what it was before. I doubt Scotty cameron custom shop would even touch it. Might be in your best interest to send it away to get a new neck put on.

There are places that will replace the neck…or change it to a flow neck.  So while it’s a pita to do so it can be repaired and feel fine.

 

But for the life of me how would UPS even do that type of damage?

Yeah, I was shocked.  They even managed to tear the putter cover somehow.  The box was flattened.  
 

I had filed a claim and after weeks and arguments was able to recoup some insurance money (not full value).  
 

Now I’m just trying to decide if I have a really nice paper weight or can do something with it.

There are no small cracks that I can see.  Not sure what you are referring to there?  Think you are referring to the small milling marks.  They are milling lines.
 

Not to say I don’t think your general premise has merit.

Ok - thought that the milling lines were “stress fractures” 

If not then probably can be hammered back to a playable condition.

Carbon Steel is highly mailable.

They aren’t cracks they are machining marks from when it’s milled.  There just on the angle as it’s been bent

Well…I wouldn’t take a hammer to it….

 

My son’s Ping ISO Force putter sustained almost identical bending (airline).  
I was able to bend it using my club bending bar and got it back to spec, and quite usable.  Just a couple fine indentations on the hosel.

 

The Ping is manganese bronze however, not sure how that compares to carbon steel. I suspect a professional repair shop (not big box) could get it back to playable condition.  
Or Scotty’s shop, might be $$ though, but if they take it on I’m sure it would done right.  
 

in terms of shipping stories , just received this a couple days ago. One shaft loose in a box.   The shaft was unharmed luckily.  FedEx

That second photo makes it appear that the face just below the hosel is partially caved in. Is that the case? If trying to bend the hosel back you would probably want to go to a specialized putter shop that has a good background working with metals, could get it refinished at the same time, will cost $$.

Send it off to Norcal Putters or someone similar and have them cut the neck off and weld on a new one and whatever else you want done.

It can be done easily in this case. This is not the end for this putter unless he wants it to be. It may be different than it was but usable.

The problem as I see it is the amount that it's bent. When you bend something that much, one side stretches out, and the other side compresses and shrinks.  Just trying to straighten it won't easily compress the stretched out side, so you'll end up with a wavy hosel, without cutting/welding and/or hammering.

Yes, it can be repaired, but it won't look the same, and it won't be cheap.

sucks bad they did this to you. 
sucks even more they seemingly only paid a portion of what it cost you. 
 

but you can get an awesome putter with it for not a crazy cost.

It can probably be fixed but it would take a ton of work.  I've bent necks back to straight that were really bad, but they all required heat and a refinish to get right.  

 

You might want to see if the Custom Shop will take it on.

 

This might be a good one to just have a long neck welded on to and gamed.

Sorry to see this. I had a putter with a damaged neck that I sent to the SC custom shop to fix. They called me and were concerned the neck might snap in fixing. Not that it would, but that it could, and they needed my written approval to try it. Putter came out fine, but it wasn't nearly as bent as yours is. I'd see if it's something they'd take on, otherwise send to a Flanagan or something to fix.

Thank you, yeah I called them and they relayed the same.  
I feel like I have no choice but to try.

Definitely what I would do. I'm assuming @DNice26 you didn't pay for the additional insurance over what they typically cover? That sucks this happened!

Luckily I did pay for extra insurance.  I did have to fight with them though after they denied my claim initially.

Ugh, this is terrible to see.  I’d be filing a claim to hopefully get my money back.  This was insured (I hope)…

Out of curiosity, since you paid extra insurance, I'm guessing you at least got back MSRP?

 

If that's the case just buy new.  These are below retail in many cases now.

Hell you might even be able to send of for welded neck repair of that one and not be in deep at all.
