Looking to switch to Srixons from my Mizuno 923 Tours. Appreciate if any WRXers can help me with these questions:

  1. If I pull my shafts from my Mizunos and plug them into the Srixons, will they be the same length? (Longer is not a problem, but I can't make a shorter shaft grow!)
  2. Anyone got comparisons for ZXi vs ZXiMk2s? What I read so far is the ZXi offers faster ball speeds, higher launch and spin. I actually prefer lower launch and spin because 1 main problem with my Mizunos is too high and spiny. Also ZXiMk2s brand new are 50% off at my store.
  3. There's a video here I think from yourgolfNCG that shows for 9 and 7 iron the ZXi5 launches higher and spins lesser than Zxi7 but for 5 iron ZXi5 launches lower and spins more than ZXi7. Anyone else can confirm this?

Thanks in advance!

5 series will launch higher with less spin vs 7 for most people. As far as length, difference will probably be 1/8" at most and not really matter. What could be materially different is weight so you would want extra care to mind the swing weight.

Just picked mine up from Roger Dunn.

5-6 iron ZXi5

7-PW ZXi7

KBS C taper 125 S+

Only downside is you can only get C taper in 120 or 130, so I had to spend extra to get the right shaft.

Never gamed Srixon before and looking looking forward to the first round tomorrow.

Did Srixon do the build with 125 for you with an up charge or did Roger Dunn build? I’ve been curious about ordering something similar and would love it direct from Srixon

A set of ZXi5 on order. 2-3 out weeks until delivery date. The weather is looking rough for the next 3 weeks which is helping curb the anxiety a little. Spring can’t get here fast enough!

Great question.  Like Mizuno Srixon only does 120 and 130 so I ordered them with Modus and banked them for the future.  Dunn ordered the 125s for me and did the work no up charge.  It cost me more but I know my specs.  Really enjoyed the irons today.  Out of 7 real iron shots I hit 5 good ones, and later in the round I was flagging it from 190.  Really nice irons.

I realize not many have hit them but should one expect a big difference in forgiveness between the 5's and 7's? Likewise, any different in neutral, fade, draw bias?

I am torn between the Zxi’s and the Mizzy 925 Forged.  A couple of concerns:

1) would anyone know which will be more forgiving?

2) I am a 10 cap will I be able to game them?

3).  One of the biggies, the 925 forged has MMT shaft options.  The 5’s do not appear to, only dart or Kbs in graphite.  I have played the MMT’s with success, but not the others.
4) the zxi’s seem to have a nice transition I could do zxi4’s 4 and 5, and the rest zxi 5’s, not sure what combo I could do in the 925, Hot Metal Pros?

5) I hit the ball a little low and have LA Golf shafts in my current irons to assist with a little better height.  I am a little fearful about stopping ability of both sets with the lofts thinking of going weaker on either set.

Ant thoughts on which might be the better buy?

Already appreciate your inputs!!!

Srixon ZX7 Irons Fitting Review

Background:

  • Current irons: 2021 Titleist T100 (previously AP2 718).
  • Iron lofts: Played 7i at 35° (weaker than standard), while the Srixon ZX7 7i tested at 32°.
  • Typical 7i carry: ~182 yards on a Trackman with swing speed slightly on the lower side.

Performance Comparison

Ball Speed:

  • T100: Averaged 127 mph.
  • Srixon ZX7: Increased to 130 mph, even with the same swing speed.
  • Takeaway: Surprising increase in ball speed with ZX7. Not necessarily better or worse, but worth noting.

Spin:

  • T100: Averaged ~6200 rpm.
  • Srixon ZX7: Dropped ~400 rpm to 5800 rpm.
  • Sweeping Draw: Spin dropped another 400-500 rpm (concerningly low).
  • Takeaway: Lower spin overall with ZX7, which could be a problematic for some. Also a reason to consider weakening lofts.

Launch Angle:

  • T100: Averaged 16-17°.
  • Srixon ZX7: Averaged ~19°.
  • Takeaway: I’m of the thought Launch Angle can best be measured off grass.

Feel:

  • T100 vs. ZX7: Feel was comparable, though I suspect more time hitting off grass could yield better insights.

Other Observations

  1. Visual Differences:

    • ZX7 top line is thicker compared to T100 but wasn’t a deal-breaker
    • Blade length is slightly longer… I think this is actually welcome as the T100 can be small for some players.
  2. Forgiveness:

    • I anticipate the ZX7 long irons (4i and 5i) might be more forgiving than T100 equivalents, especially on long par 3s or second shots into par 5s. I am hoping for help here as who couldn’t use more GIR on longer par 3s.
  3. Shot Shape:

    • ZX7 irons felt more fade-friendly compared to the T100s.
    • As a lifetime draw player, this was intriguing for control purposes.

Conclusion & Specs Ordered

I decided to order the ZX7 irons (4-PW) with the following specs:

  • Loft: 2° weak.
  • Lie: 1° flat.
  • Shafts: X100 - may consider KBS Tours later if this experiment is too low spinning.

Reasoning:

  • Hoping to play a smaller draw or finally develop a controlled fade.
  • Anticipating improved forgiveness in the longer irons.

Final Thoughts:
Time will tell if the ZX7 irons unlock more potential in my game, but the fitting revealed enough positives to make the switch. I’ll provide further feedback once I’ve had time to test them more extensively.

Hope this helps anyone considering the ZX7 irons!

Interested to hear more comparisons off the grass when you get them. I’m thinking about getting a split set of 5/7 with weaker lofts, but concerned how that effects the v sole performance.

Saw the new zxi5 in a pro shop, honestly fell in love with them. But the back of my T200 fell off a couple weeks ago, now I feel so insecure with those hollow body irons that have a cap on the back...

The 5s aren’t hollow body. The 4s are Srixons hollow body offering

To cover up the ugly mainframe tech behind the face and make them have more bag appeal. They aren't going to be as pretty as a "7" model without the badge. Kind of like the T200. Has the same plastic plate just to make them prettier and more uniform. Could also be changing the acoustics, etc.

T200 are definitely hollow.

i think zx5s are as well, just not large and filled with goo.  Those copper colored areas are hollowed out

The face is welded to the body.

This is essentially what I was referring to. Not like a closed hollow body like a 245, ZXi4, i530, etc.

Got it.

I’d still consider that hollow body.  Aligns with the Titliest marketing and pre zx4 srixon markerting as well.

Yeah, guess I was thinking of a fully welded back, not a backplate. My mistake. But either way, the ZXi5 backplate does do just that. Makes them look prettier, can change acoustics, etc.

This thread show the OG ZX5 with a missing backplate. Obviously some lead tape covering up the tech, but a similar situation to that T200.

i had the exact same problem... don't know if it was simply damaged for TSA suspected me to hide something...

but yeah, that's what I mean by hollow. guess zxi5 might not be a do-able option for me, I fly internationally a lot 😞

Its going to be on the same scale as other irons that go progressovely smaller and workable. Think of the likes of P770 to P7CB T150 to T100 JPX forged to tours etc.

Just looking down and seeing the visual size difference at address just tells you there is a difference. How big is really dependent on your quality of strike.

Irons do not really have biases stated. If anything most irons are heel biased in CG but I would not call that draw bias either.

For those with combo sets, how in the weeds are you getting with tweaking the lofts?

I’m gaming OG ZX5 full set and want to build a 4-6, 7-9 5xi/7xi combo set and just order vs fitting. I know I’m going to game the same true tempers I have rn.

anyone just gone with standard lofts and feel good?
