Didn’t want to wait for the new T series so did a fitting today focusing on ZXi7 vs T150.. some numbers below but believe going with the ZXi7s +1” & 2* up in TI X100. Only question is to do the 5i in the 5 or 7 series (4i will be ZXi5); he pulled an ZXi7 5i off the shelf and hit it well in a standard length and still 120 modus shaft. Thoughts?

Your delivery with the KBS is very good and it’s yielding very positive results in terms of launch, spin, descent, and ball speed.

Fitter mentioned I hit that shaft well, but when I told him it felt “flimsier” at the end of shaft he was inclined to keep me in the X 100 considering I pretty much played that my entire life.

FWIW I am coming from X 100 shafts playing half an inch long standard lie (Christmas present so been just gaming the P7MCs). He gave me the feeling of sticking with what I’m familiar with since I’m changing iron look and length.

That is a good nugget from the fitter. Knowing this, I would say to also stick with what feels more comfortable.

Reassuring to hear that, so thank you for your input! The only part I challenged him on was the tour issue versus regular X 100. He did say that at my swing speed I would see a benefit from the tour issue version. I’m also looking at it from the perspective of saving 250 bucks on a new set of irons.. lol

I get the "I'm used to this shaft" mentality but from an outsider looking in, I'm seeing by far the lowest spin rate and lowest decent angle and thinking how are you going to hold the greens.

Perhaps you could get a 7 iron in 1 shaft and a 6 iron in the other shaft and test them on the course to see how the ball reacts on the greens.  Then switch out the shaft on the loser of the 2 and buy the rest of your set.

Oh, yeah. Your SS is easily in that alley of shaft. Your numbers a good in terms of descent, spin, launch, and ball speed. You can swing it and your ball stops easily with all those numbers.

A couple of things here, really for my knowledge and understanding…

1) I went into the fitting with an open mind to try new things, because if it were up to me, I would’ve ordered the T150s in dynamic gold

X 100 and call it a day, probably at half inch long.

2) The KBS shaft and head combination felt the best, they did have a MCC plus midsize grip on that one, so I think it took a little of the feel of heaviness off the head of the club, which I really liked the lighter head feel.

3) Would self stepping, or hard stepping (this this is correct?) help out here for providing some tip end firmness?

4) Every club in my bag, sores high and land soft, my problem usually isn’t holding greens.

I want to default to the X100s, but also interested in trying a new shaft combination to open up options.

Gotcha! But without testing that would alter the numbers that were working for me, give or take. The KBS shafts are no upcharge as well which is appealing.

5 series. That’s what I did and I think 95% of their staffer do as well. How many times a round do you even hit a 5i? Might as well have the extra help when you do. There’s literally no difference in appearance and they still feel very good, albeit it is a different feel. I went 1 degree weak in 5i. Standard loft everything else.

im a higher swing speed player and actually went C Taper 120 HSx1. I got into the 125 but they don’t carry it and wanted to get away from 130g shafts.

Yeah great point, and good info. I have the issue right now that I’m not hitting my 5i in my current P7MC because not confident, and instead hit the P770 4i a lot.

Sold on the 4-5 ZXi5 and 6-P ZXi7. Actually reading more into the shafts and the KBS tour had a “grip” weight point and why it felt too flimsy to me. Going to try the S taper I think and compare to the TIX100. Nevertheless, really happy with today’s outcomes and to order soon.

Also noticed me building online vs 2nd Swing was about $150 cheaper difference.

The KBS Tour in X is actually quite a robust shaft but it does have an opposite bend profile to X100. $ taper feels a bit more linear than the Tour but is still a higher balance point shaft than x100. If you’re building overlength it’s actually smart to go with a KBS as they’re a bit counterbalanced and keep the swingweight in a better spot. Srixon has some lighter heads (I think) but likely an X100 build at +1” will be very sledgehammer-ish on swingweight.

Another point I’d make is definitely do the 5 in the 5 iron. Your smash factor is not in a good spot. It should be closer to 1.4 on trackman so should be living in the low 140s for ball speed with a 7 iron. How tall are you? Srixon at stock length is already +.25” over Titleist so ordering +1” is actually quite a bit longer than standard. It will also make the shafts play much softer than if they were standard. Not challenging the fit, I just wouldn’t be having someone walk with an expensive set of clubs having that much speed and poor efficiency.

Well, some frustrating information here, but ultimately my fault lol. I got a good deal so I ordered the irons the other day and got the ZXi5 is 4/5 and ZXi7 in 6-PW with X100s at +1” so they are going to play +1.25” from standard and +.75" from what I’m used to playing in my current set. Not the end of the world can cut down but yeah.

I’m 6’6” tall and the current set I have is only +.5” long so during the fitting was testing +1” and +1.5” and was consistently heel side of center striking it. Also, the “sledgehammer” effect was something I pointed out and wanted to get away from. My "gut" was to go with the KBS Tour or $ Taper, was leaning towards the $ tapers in black shafts.

Should have looked into it more but very well may either buy new shafts or sell and reorder since custom.. Tally this to a mistake i wont make again.

It's difficult to get irons that length with a reasonable swingweight. I went through the same issues. Mizuno does have lighter heads (B heads) and they are in the very small minority. I went with New Level TC 480s because they have a weight port where they can control swing weight. Ping is another because of their screws they can control swingweight pretty well. It's bona-fide crap shoot otherwise and a manufacturer will send you irons that are D5 with you not having a clue why you can't hit them. Ask me how I know.

I feel like if you can get a set to play at d5 at 1 inch over that’s a blessing!

Anyone moved to ZXi irons (5 or 7s) from the old z565s?

Been gaming the z565 (4-PW) with Project X LZ since they were released in ~2016 but have an itch to change. Curios if anyone has any comments on the differences, feel, looks, performance etc.

Thanks

It wasn't planned - but I somehow managed to own every set of 5's since the 565s.

Srixon doesn't mess up a good thing and they all play very similarly.  IMO, the ZXi's are the best feeling since the 565.  The ZXi's also seem to launch higher (with the same shafts) than the OG ZX and MKii.

Looks are subjective, but they have gotten better looking every cycle. The ZXi's 'seem' a hair bigger than the previous models when I look at them side by side.  But I don't notice it when I play them.

I've always said you could throw me in anything from the series and I'd be perfectly happy.

Thanks for the feedback. I guess I need to go try them then if they are the best feeling since 565s...booked a fitting appointment for tomorrow afternoon at Scotland's Srixon centre of excellence.

I still really like the 565s and they have worn really well (or haven't worn should I say), but have a niggling feeling that they are a bit heavy for my current body. I was fit for the irons when I was lifting weights several times a week, but roll on almost a decade and two kids later (3yr and 3 month old) I'm definitely not as strong as I was. They are an inch over standard with LZ 6.0 shafts and nothing drilled from the heads to reduce swing weight.
