Started thinking through the release and got to wondering... Has anyone played anything like this?

3i - ZXiU

4i - Zxi4

5i/6i - Zxi5

7i/8i - Zxi7

9i/Pw - Z forged II

Would love to hear some feedback haha. I'm going full ZXi7, but may throw in a ZXi5 4i down the line if I need it.

Reminds me of this Luke Hanlon follower WITB from last year on SMS haha:

IMG_0582.jpeg.58226c608a781023ebc66a86ea774564.jpeg

You'll notice the JPX, JPX Pro, JPX Forged, MP245, MP243, JPX Tour, and MP241. Crazy mix.

I have similar

ZX Utility - 3

ZX5 - 5i

ZX7 - 6i to 9i

Z Forged - PW

Its the perfect blend for me!

Did you get fit with a specific shaft for the combo set?   Or did you just stick with a shaft you are familiar with and you know has performed for you in the past?

Yeah I just went with my current shafts, PX 6.0 and PX5.5 in the 5iron. I did toy with the idea of putting Axioms in but...then they let me test the Qi35, so the budget went there instead!!

Just hit my friends new set of mkii zx7 today on the range and was very impressed with forgiveness and launch/spin/distance out of those irons.

Can anyone draw some correlation to the softness of the zxi vs mkii model yet? If these new ones are really ~ 10% softer this could be the best deal in all of golf for the feel alone.

Top line def a little chunky, but they felt effortless to swing and the ball seemed to launch easily, hold its line, and based on ball flight had ample spin as well.

I haven’t been able to give up my 100s black set because its the best combo of distance and spin retention I’ve played in that style of iron but these zx7 have peaked my interest all over again.

Curious, those going with a combo set of the 5 and 7, did you adjust lofts in the 5's or just rolled as is? I was looking at going to ZXi5 in the 4 and 5 iron and weaking by 1 degree.

If just going 4 and 5 in the ZXI5, and the rest of the set ZXI7, you would only need to weaken the 5 iron by a degree to keep the same loft structure of the 7's already.  Keep the 4 iron at 22* and bend the 5 iron from 24* to 25*, and then your 6 iron in the 7's will be at 28*.  Take a closer look on the website at the lofts between the 2, as you know they aren't all that different until you get down to the short clubs.

This is exactly what I did and I think that it is the best way to do it! I was thinking about bending the 4 iron 1* weak just to take some of the offset out, but that is something that I will possibly try as the season goes on! This is the best way to do it though for anyone else interested in ordering a combo set!

Fully agree with @pjc and always something that can be adjusted later if you see them coming off a little hotter than you'd like from a gapping standpoint. They may be the same lofts, but the tech will yield higher ball speeds on average from what i'm seeing.

I believe that I am going to go 4 iron ZXI4, then 5-PW ZXI5...I think that since the ZXI4 iron is 21* that will slot nicely into the 24* 5 iron of the ZXI5 and the rest of the set.  Why not take a little more pop and forgiveness without really loosing any control with the ZXI5 full set.  That ZXI4 4 iron will be mostly a cannon off certain tee shots for me.  Maybe....maybe out of the fairway/rough if a long shot calls for it.  I like long irons better than hybrids/driving irons/ and even fairway woods...lol  These Srixon irons are not hard to hit, all 3 of them can be played by all types of players...pretty unique.

Got my order confirmation yesterday- combo set 5 & 6 ZX5's, the rest 7's.  Axiom shafts. 5 & 6 adjusted loft.  Grips in box (I play Iomic 3.5's).   Skipped ordering the Utility this time around, but will by spring.

Says 3-4 weeks due to Axiom shafts.  We'll see.

-10 here this morning, so..........I can wait.

Did you order from their website? Noticed in your signature you have Axiom 75.  Srixon US site only showing Axiom 105 and 125 as options when I look.   Have you hit the 105s?

I love that setup, I hope that it treats you well! I just really like the looks of the 7's the most, but there is no doubt that you could really use any of them without noticing a lot of differences! You are right, the full lineup of irons is clean and blend seamlessly with one another!

Also, I thought I read somewhere that they were changing how they measured irons. I feel like they’ve always played 1/8” to 1/4” longer than everyone else. Anyone know if this is true and what the net effect on finished length it will have?

No net change to length of irons.

they are now measuring like titleist, which will measure bang on to stated length on a Mitchell ruler.

I have the 105x Axiom in my ZX Utility and its amazing, really tempted to put the 125's in my ZXi's...

I have been playing the ZX4 MK II set including the 4 iron. I am not a very good long iron player, but those long irons are so easy to hit.

Talking about gapping, the ZXi4 lofts are quite odd in a full set. From 4 - SW, the gaps go 2, 2.5, 3, 4.5, 5, 5, 6, 7. That's going to get interesting down at the shorter end I would imagine?

I think that makes sense for a GI iron or at least its to be expected imo.

I have the ZXi5's 4i to AW (not too much different than the ZX5 mkII, but enough to be pleased).  That gapping is 2, 3, 4, 4, 4, 5, 6 so it opens up but just not as much as the ZXi4s.   The ZXi7s are even a bit more narrow still from 4i to AW at 3, 3, 4, 4, 5, 5, 5 .    Having said all that, this is where a combo set is nice if you care about a tighter gapping and plan on just ordering a combo set without loft alterations.

I decided to order another set doing that.. this time doing a combo set ZXi5 in 4,5,6,and 7 and the ZXi7 in 8, 9, PW, AW.   This gapping turns out to be  2, 3, 4, 5, 5, 5, 5.    I debated having the 4i swapped out to a ZXi4, which would make that gapping even tighter at 3, 3, 4, 5, 5, 5, 5 but my OCD can more easily live with the ZXi5/ZXi7 at 4 irons each gapping than having a triple combo set :classic_biggrin:

@drvrwdge

I ordered 7/5 combo with 5 in the 4 & 5 iron and did not adjust the lofts. The only difference is 1* in the 5 iron. Still a 4* difference between 6 iron and 5 iron.

Anyone know if the Axioms offered are the taper tip version?

I'm guessing that the gapping differences are a reflection of the expected swing speeds for each iron.   The lower the expected SS, the larger the loft gaps in the shorter irons, whereas higher ones can have narrower loft gaps to get comparable distances.    In the long irons at slower speeds many should be considering hybrids, and they exist more for combo sets.   And of course they can always be bent.
