First impressions?

Very easy to line up. Really easy to forward press and keep the head really square. I love that.

Sound and feel is super soft especially for this head. Have a buddy who has the ZX7 MKII, so it will be fun to compare.

Very buttery. It is a bit chilly and it was getting close to dark, so it will be nice to get a couple more range sessions with them! I rushed to the range. lol

So are Srixon irons the same length compared to say ping at standard or are they slightly longer?

Finished or completed length (irons), Srixon is approximately 1/8" longer than Ping.  Ping measurements per their website are without the grip.  Srixon has not changed their iron lengths, they are the same that they have always been.  Just like Mizuno did last year, they both post on their website under the specs of all of their clubs that they just changed the way that they measure not anything else.  Why can't people go to websites and read?

Side bar--Mizuno and Srixon have the longest club lengths out of the "major" OEMS with Mizuno fractionally longer by literally a hair, but in reality they are the same.  Callaway is the shortest, followed by Taylormade (these 2 are really close and may be the same).  If you put a Srixon standard iron side by side to a Callaway standard iron, the Srixon is at least a 1/4" longer.  Titleist and Cobra are the same finished lengths (despite what the websites state) and they are in between Srixon/Mizuno and Callaway/Taylormade with Ping being just very slightly longer finished length.  Keep in mind though, this is based off if the OEM is on spec with their cuts off the assembly line and most of the time they are not, sad but true.

Every last word of this post above is spot on and accurate.  Mizuno is probably about (2mm) longer than Srixon  which is basically nothing. From longest to shortest:

1. Mizuno

2. Srixon (nearly identical to Mizuno)

3. PING

4. Titleist/cobra

5. Callaway

6. TaylorMade (very close to Callaway above, maybe a 2mm shorter)

From top to bottom the difference between a stock TM iron and a Mizuno it's about 3/8 of an inch, or somewhere between a quarter inch and a half an inch.  I couldn't remember going in a store and picking up a Mizuno MP221 7i and setting it next to a P7MC and the difference was staggering.

I can play Mizuno standard length right off the rack. There's no way I could play Taylor made off the rack... or Callaway.  Too short.

If you do axiom 125x in the irons and in the wedges, doesn’t it make sense to soft step just the wedges to get a little more feel out of them?

Shaft upgrades were a wallet killer but I really love that shaft and I will keep it for a long while.

Now we wait.   Supposed to be terrible weather in northern Ohio so it doesn't really matter except for sim time.

What shaft did you put in the irons?

I did the 125x in the irons and wedges. I wasn’t sure if they were going to tip them less or put a mid profile shaft in there if I requested a soft step. That was the reason I didn’t do it.

read one of the threads from Howard Jones about the topic of wedge shafts. his perspective to go up one in flex and use an 8 iron shaft. there isn't an Axiom TX i don't think so that won't work, but there should be some info on how to handle that.

I like Axiom 125X in irons a lot, but did not get along with them in wedges. Not sure why, but could be due to them not being soft stepped ? Anyways, DG S400 worked better for me. If set on graphite, MMT scoring wedge shafts are really solid too.

I currently play ZX5 MKII’s and was looking to pick up some ZXi5’s.  My plan was to leave the MKII’s in the basement as a full time sim set and game the ZXi’s.  However, after some research I’m consider a combo set.  I’m not sure about changing the lofts, I’ll likely talk to a fitter about that first.

5-6 iron ZXi4 (1 degree weak)

7-9 iron ZXi5

PW-AW ZXi7 (1 degree strong)

I live in Denver and have a decent swing speed, so my PW plays 155 and the AW 140.  It seems like a little extra control and stopping power from the ZXi7 may be a good idea.

Any thoughts?

Just picked mine up from Roger Dunn.

5-6 iron ZXi5

7-PW ZXi7

KBS C taper 125 S+

Only downside is you can only get C taper in 120 or 130, so I had to spend extra to get the right shaft.

Never gamed Srixon before and looking looking forward to the first round tomorrow.

Nice.

I'm doing:

ZXi4 4

ZXi5 5-7

ZXi7 8-PW

Mizuno T3 52 & 58

As an arthritic old guy I'm graphite only from now on -- have Steelfiber i80cw in my current full set of ZX5 MkII. My clubmaker is hoping to get the new UST Dart HDC 80 in soon and will probably try those out just for comparison purposes.

Smart move.  I'd like to try graphite but they always feel too loose.  The c tapers feel like some lumber, that's for sure.

Looking to switch to Srixons from my Mizuno 923 Tours. Appreciate if any WRXers can help me with these questions:

  1. If I pull my shafts from my Mizunos and plug them into the Srixons, will they be the same length? (Longer is not a problem, but I can't make a shorter shaft grow!)
  2. Anyone got comparisons for ZXi vs ZXiMk2s? What I read so far is the ZXi offers faster ball speeds, higher launch and spin. I actually prefer lower launch and spin because 1 main problem with my Mizunos is too high and spiny. Also ZXiMk2s brand new are 50% off at my store.
  3. There's a video here I think from yourgolfNCG that shows for 9 and 7 iron the ZXi5 launches higher and spins lesser than Zxi7 but for 5 iron ZXi5 launches lower and spins more than ZXi7. Anyone else can confirm this?

Thanks in advance!

tough call. You might want to do a search on Srixon hosel depth and BBGM of Srixon..  I read something last year that suggested that the shaft bottoms out shallower Srix compared to 'other'. It was a post on WRX. Hopefully the guy made some measurements so you can anticipate.
