I know this lineup is good. And it's been good for awhile.

But have they changed anything meaningful since the first ZX5/7 release?

To a casual observer the II and i releases seem totally pointless.

You could make this argument about literally every single successful players club over the past decade+. Move some weight here and there, market and sell.

Most manufacturers at least try to make their releases look different, in particular with their irons.

Srixon isn't even trying. ZX7.. ZX7II.. ZX7i.. please.

I'd put myself in the 'casual observer' category, and at least to my eye, the ZXi look is a lot more appealing.

But when it comes to consumer products in general, we've come to expect a certain product cycle and for the golf gear intended to sell in volume, anything longer than a couple of years tends to be forgotten and even those that might otherwise be interested hold off in anticipation of a new model or price reductions on the current one.

Even Tesla has learned that people won't pay top dollar for a new car that looks exactly like the 5 year old one in  the neighbors' driveway.

I have looked at the Zxi5 and Zxi4 irons side by side several times. Maybe they have done some bevel on the Zxi5 to make it look thinner  and it actually is the same width top line as the Zxi4 (as Srixon says) but there were three of us checking these out and we all picked the Zxi4 as having a thicker top line. Do you guys think the top lines on these 5 irons look the same?

Top lines look the same to me, what throws it off is the shaping. The lines of the ZXi4’s look much softer. The entire line looks outstanding to me regardless of it being an evolution or revolution.

Maybe so, but visually they really do not look close to the same to me. And no one else standing there thought so. We even mixed them around and did blind tests. Every guy picked the Zxi4 as thicker, every time. To me the Zxi5 looks fantastic. The Zxi4 looks chunky, I did not care for it. The standard Elyte looks much sleeker.

ZXi4 absolutely looks thicker, and I’m okay with that. I’m not sure how anyone can look at this picture and think they are the same iron head. It’s not supposed to be the same club as the ZXi5. I don’t understand why they are trying to convince everyone the tops lines are the same.

With the bigger overall footprint, I do expect the ZXi4 to have performance advantages over the ZXi5 aside from the difference in loft, but is there enough to separate them?

Brilliant comment, but no thanks. Did some great drills in Bradley Hughes’ course and that is one thing he talks about a lot — he says bad golf starts with getting “ball bound” and for good tempo, don’t get in the habit of staring at the ball. He drills in a rhythmic swing that collects the ball along the way.

I ordered zxi7’s with modus 130X with custom length and lie last week and they just came in today. I’ve never had a custom order in my hands so quickly.

First range session today with them and these are some of the purest irons I’ve ever hit. Coming from i230’s with X100’s and it’s night and day.

Any sense yet for forgiveness between the two sets?  I am not a fan of the i230’s (own a set) and looking at the Srixon.

To be fair, he probably doesn't advocate staring at top lines either, correct?

I wouldn't say they're the same either.   Maybe some sleight of hand/calipers in measuring to get there.   I've noticed the same when checking in person.   But to my eyes it's less apparent when not doing a direct comparison.

I also though that Ping did a better job making the G440s top line look thinner than it is than on the ZXi4, but I didn't find either objectionable in that regard.

I spent the last couple of days hitting the ZXi7 vs T100 indoors with my Rapsodo MLM2Pro. As expected, the ZXi7 launched about a degree lower, peaked a bit lower and spun a few hundred RPM's lower. No surprises here due to the 2 degree loft difference. I have been working on some speed training over the past month and had my quickest day I have had in recent memory today.

For whatever reason, I was swinging the T100 a bit faster than the ZXi7 so the ball speed was actually a bit higher as an average with the T100 which was surprising to me. They both feel great when hit out of the center. I need to get them both on grass this weekend to see how they do in real world situations. From what I have seen so far, I could happily play both sets.

It’s a very nice iron. Not knocking the clubs. The Zxi5 is the goldilocks for me. I think it gives you pretty much what the Zxi4 does but I prefer the look of the 5.

I would bet you are correct and they have a way of measuring the top lines that shows the Zxi4 and 5 are the same. I think I was just expecting the same design, so if one is beveled and the other isn’t, if it looks a lot different, people will notice. Maybe they couldn’t do it in the Zxi4 due to it being hollow. I played the 4 iron in the ZX4 and it was as easy to hammer as any 4 iron ever made. Can’t really see it entirely from this angle but I remember it having softer edges on the top line.

Where is everyone making the switch in the combo of the ZXi5 to the ZXi7? I'm thinking at 7 iron, but might order both 7irons, also when combining these two, what is everyone doing with the lofts? Leaving stock or going to match one or the other? Thanks

Went 5-6 and 7-PW.  It's based off the way I had my old JPX set.
