LAB and the Zero-Torque movement (junior edition)

She was using a TM GTx Spider.  It was a really good putter, and my son still uses his.

 

Her struggles on longer and uphill putts was the cheif reason for going with the DF3.  I've only seen her with it in the store, but going out to practice with her now.  My son played with her yesterday, and said she was still getting used to it... and that he wants one as soon as possible. 😂

My son outgrew his lab mezz max, and luckily his lie angle is close to stock, so ended up picking both a Oz1 and DF3. I thought he would prefer the Oz1 like he did in the store but he ended up liking the DF3 much more. He played in a tournament last week and then a round else where this past weekend, and his SG Putting were the best its been. The only thing he wants is a flashy looking DF3, instead of the "boring" black one 🙂

He actually works about an hour outside of Orlando.  He's got one of the most impressive stable of juniors in the state.

He's always been direct while still being kind--a line few can walk as well as he does.  The kids learned AIM Point late in the summer, but didn't retain the last bit of it real well (measuring breaks with straddling the putting line, holding the hand out for calibration cheifly).

 

While my daughter's putting has improved dramatically the past several months, uphill putts past 15' are still quite an achilles heel and her medium putts should be dropping a little more.  After watching several reviews on Zero-Torque putters, I can't help but wonder if one of these putters would be a great tool for my daughter's leave-it-short syndrome and my son's pull-it-left miss.  In combination with finishing up their knowldedge of AIM Point, it seems this could be a great way for them to shave off strokes.

 

I also can't help but to wonder if these putters won't be outlawed at some point due to them giving too much of a stability advantage.

 

Has anyone gone through a fitting? Removed one from the bag?  I'm curious as to what everyone is seeing and going through with zero-torque putters.

I have a LAB Oz.1i and my problems on long putts are leaving it short and on short putts pulling it as I think the face is shut and it feels awfully torquey as opposed to a face balanced putter.

A big part of why people are having success with the LAB is because they are actually going through a fitting process. You might be able to do the same with whatever OEM you decide to go with. But if you've got $500+ and six weeks to wait maybe LAB is the way to go. 

 

Plus, you might want to wait and see what Bryson drops pretty soon. 😉

Going through a fitting process AND for a lot of people it’s the first time they’ve played a mallet moving from a blade.

My feedback is on limited information and is also very anecdotal, but my daughter's first event with the DF3 went as well as I could have hoped for.  The greens were grain hell and pretty trecherous, and she outputted her brother (who has a Spider GTx and is by most any account the better putter of the two) by a fair margin over two days.  Once she really practices with it and gets a few events under her belt it could be scary.

 

Her leave has always been short, and very short at times uphill.  The DF3 isn't a magic wand, but I do think it's a good putter for those who continually leave it short.

 

I'm not sure what putter my son will end up with, but getting him fitted for a LAB is probably going to happen by June.
