Srixon XV is a great ball for me and my game.  Can it unseat my trusty 1x?  I played with 4 different balls over the weekend in less than ideal conditions.  Cool, wet, gusty winds.  Here is what I posted about the XV in my thread on unscientific testing...

Srixon xv. Loved the ball. Mid drive flight. Long. Felt heavier than left dash but not like 3 diamond. Great straight flight on irons and hop and stop on greens.

Srixon XV.  Ball feels a tad heavy off driver compared to 1x.  Mid flight that cuts wind (and it was gusty yesterday).  Long with the driver, as long as 1x Id say.  I know the course and was in usual spots.  Irons was a nice flight that felt good off the face.  This ball holds its line.  Dialed in a 7i approach from 160 and played a cut (right to left - Im lefty) that hit, hopped, spun about 3ft left and sat.  Off wedges and around green, great control and spin.  Was able to play all the greenside shots and the hop n stop was great on this one.

Did it knock the pro v1x out of your bag?

I'm going to play next with just xv and v1x and see how it goes. It's a great ball for sure. V1x feels livelier to me in my small sample but more time needed. I did really like the short game action xv gave me. It's also very straight off the clubs.

By the sounds of your earlier posts you are definitely a higher spin player than me although both lefties. Right now I’m playing the pro v1x but I’m definitely curious about the xv but from what I’ve been seeing and reading the Srixon diamond might be the best fit for me

Definitely high spin player here, naturally. Yes you should try diamond for sure from everything I've read . I do putt right handed though lol.

I also have found the flight on the ‘25 XV to be noticeably lower than the diamond through 54 holes. I’m really liking it. Close to pulling the trigger on 6 dozen.

I've not hit diamond. On paper not a fit. How did the xv feel off the face to you? Driver, iron, wedge. To me felt heavier than v1x. Nothing bad, just heavier. Kinda why I described 1vx as livelier I guess.

In my experience the diamond was similar to XV in the longer clubs, but produced significantly more spin and shorter distances in 9 iron and wedges.  I think I like it more than the XV, but I anticipate wanting to very rarely hit full wedges with it.

Sounds exactly like a fit for me

The last gen diamond I played was noticably Shorter for me through the bag. I'm not a high spin player. At 51yrs old I don't generate the power to spin them a lot driver SS low 90s. So I would have thought the Diamond spinning so much would help me distance wise but it was the opposite. The prior XV was much longer for me just didn't have the Green side spin. But the 25 is supposed to spin more around greens that's why I'm anxious to try it

I haven’t played a prov1x since 2022. So I don’t have a good recent comparison in terms of feel. I think the XV feels fantastic. If i can remember right, and imo, I think the XV is slightly softer than the V1x, especially with a putter but I haven’t hit a ‘23 or ‘25 v1x, ive been playing the diamond. I’m a high launch/spin player so the XV is a much better fit for me and has added a good 3-4 yards on all of my irons, but still getting plenty of greenside spin I’d say on a 50 yard pitch the XV is releasing an extra 2-3 ft than the diamond for me. That’s not backed by data, just feel and experience of 50+ rounds with a diamond to compare it with.

Im a high spin player and the new xv has plenty of spin around the green.  Hope it works out for you

So the feeling is that the '25 XV spins around the greens a touch more than before?

I'm one who "should" fit better into the Diamond.  I like as much short iron and greenside spin as I can get, plus a bit softer compression sounds good.

But as it's been since 2019, the XV just works for me.  I keep finding my way back to it and it just performs.

Having played 3-4 rounds this year so far with both the 25' diamond and the XV, I much prefer the XV. I too am a high spin player with the irons and wedges (too steep trying to hit a cut), and I firmly believe the Diamond was several yards shorter in the mid to short irons and wedges. Too much spin I'm sure.

I agree on the diamond being a shorter with irons, I’d say 3-5 yards through 3 rounds. It’s been too wet in Oklahoma to really tell with driver.

I can confirm that the XV spins more around the greens in the 25. They lowered the compression a bit and tweaked the cover. If you are deciding between the Diamond and XV, I invite you to live inside my head for a moment...
The spin axis tilt or sidespin off the driver is higher on Diamond, no doubt. Though FIRs are often overthought, I want to maximize my opportunities to keep the ball as close to the fairway as possible -- my club is tight. I try to play a tight fade, and I don't want that thing burning too far to the left (I'm a lefty). The XV checks the box. The same goes for longer irons. But if there was one ++ the Diamond has, it's the spin characteristics of the long irons... For my own game, I am not holding a significant amount of greens at 200 out anyway, so if I/you/we think similarly, the XV being just fine around the green and even better off the tee, it gets the nod over the diamond. I played Torrey South 7 days after the Genesis and hitting a 6 iron 175 in a good amount of win and stopping the ball on fast greens was not an issue. I'm not an overly spinny player either. Conversely, the Diamond should be the favorite if you need every ounce of spin out of a ball.

Handicap Estimated GIR % (175–200 yds)
5 35–40%
10 25–30%
12 20–25%
15 15–20%

how do you compare the XV to the new ProV1X spin wise? I am also a lower spin left handed player although I draw the ball compared to your fade

I have not compared those two directly, my course/condition dependent rotation is the XV & 25 V1. And I would say the Diamond & V1x are better comparisons, so if you are familiar with the Diamond vs VX, your going to have a 90% baseline.

Probably doesnt mean much - but have been rolling the new XV on practice green and I am really liking the feel off my putter.  I have an odyssey microhinge, 2025 model (I think lol).  Feels really good and I have 0 issues with distance control on lag putts specifically.  Headed out of town so no further ball testing for me until next week.

I know I’ve blown up this thread so this will be my last post unless there are questions. I’m completely sold on the 25 XV. Testing complete kicking the diamond out with complete confidence. 4th round with it today and what really sold me was the fact I could hit a 6 iron 200 yards with helping wind and only have about 6-7 feet of rollout out, Then have 4 30-40 yard pitch shots with 1 big hop and 5-6 ft of release which is exactly what I was expecting on those shots. Greens were very fast and average firmness. Don’t want to be that guy but for reference avg club speed with driver is 118, high launch/spin player. If you’re a high speed/launch/spin player looking for a mid flight ball you have to give the 25 XV a shot. I will be loading up on Father’s Day.

I don't think it's just for the Higher SS guys. I'm low to mid 90s and the previous version was pretty awesome for me! I switched to the Chrome Tour due to it being a little softer, So I have a dozen new 25 XV and after the changes they made I'm Very excited about trying it out!

Dumb question maybe..but what do you think the differences will be from a tour brx?  Current gamer but not in love with it yet.  Ss with driver is 99-102ish and i fight a hook so looking for balls that fly fairly straight.  Never got along with a Titleist ball for some reason so far.  Might just pick up a dozen and see how it goes

Bridgestone have been the straightest balls I've ever played. I don't think you'll find any brand that beats them on that.

What makes one golf ball fly straighter than another? Less spin/more spin?

I don't think a dimple pattern can make a ball flight straighter but maybe I'm wrong.

Biggest difference is the XV should feel firmer.   But as some compensation, it'll also probably be longer.

When I tried the RX a few years ago, I liked the softer compression feel, but other than that, the XV performed better in basically every other way.  To me, the RX was pretty meh -- not bad at all, but didn't stand out in any area, either.

In a way, though, they're pretty different balls.  I think a closer Srixon comp to the RX would be the regular Z-Star.

So I looked at the XV ball (have not played them forever). I always had issues with the "seam" on the Srixons and they would have 3 balls out of a dozen that would not stay in balancer (they always spun out). Anyways... I could not see a "seam" with these balls, so I think I will give it a test drive...
