What a joke.  I don't know how they can decide what to award to the players that didn't get a spot?  Last place CME points (I guess they would have got something)?

 

This also seems like an LPGA problem.  Popov played based on their allocation of spots (even double checked) and should get what she earned in those tournaments?  I guess it does impact who will be in certain categories throughout/at the end of the year though, so maybe the points should be removed?  Not sure.

Popov and Masson both played 17 events in ‘24 and both started their season at Fir Hills.

I'm not sure how the LPGA can justify withdrawing Popov's points/earnings.

Mistakes happen in all walks of life and in many organizations.

But in the past few years, some possibly avoidable issues have popped up in the LPGA.

Maybe it also gets exposed because of the LPGA centric writer Beth Ann who informs the public vs. other situations that might have been swept under the rug, if no dedicated writer discloses it publicly.

 

Nice to see Baba Saki taking the high road. Good karma that hopefully is rewarded soon.

Seems like she’s going for the female version of the Stewart Hagestad setup. Not a bad life. Cushy job that lets you off for lots of golf when you want to and not having to live out of a hotel all your life

A friend of mine is an art history major. She had a fabulous career in banking and made so much money she retired at 45 yrs old

Oy. It's going to be totally meaningless. The only time a player will be timed is when their group is out of position. How often does that happen? Rarely. 

 

The real problem starts with the officials allowing the lead groups to play ridiculously slow. If the lead threesomes are allowed to play at a 5 hour pace, guess what? The entire field will be in position playing at a 5 hour pace. 

 

Here's a radical idea. How about putting a timing official with the lead group on each nine? Sorry that you're the first group out, but you start on the clock and remain on the clock for the entire round. Don't like it? Play better and get moved to a later slot. 

 

Tired of the hand wringing, crocodile tears, and half measures. A threesome should be more than capable of playing in four hours with an empty course in front of them. Playing at a reasonable pace is part of the game. Why on Earth should a player get more than 2 minutes to hit a teeshot on a 140 yd par 3?

Mimi's a very competent pro already, seemed in great control in this event.

 

This Wollongong course dates back to 1897! Absolute true links old-style course running alongside the Pacific Ocean with lots of raised greens with false fronts and run-offs so some challenging approaches and recovery shots. Was an enjoyable watch for me. Was fairly calm weather, would go up a notch in difficulty with some more wind.

 

Don't think Mimi was super gushing about her Oz visit, when she was asked what she liked most she struggled to come up with anything and after an awkward 20 secs blurted out 'coffee'

(as it's NOT in the "Latest Videos" section on youtube

... but hidden in a Playlist under "Podcasts" (and not sorted "Newest First" i.e. hidden as Track #27!)

 

... i blame the LPGA social media intern  🤔.  (or it's a symptom of "Don't care... i did my job to the bare-minimum" culture in the LPGA).

i wouldn't read too much into Nelly's absence w.r.t. that Nike SuperBowl commercial...

i.e. my 2 cents for Nelly & Nike = you will see Nelly advertised more prominently during golf season (circa now-ish i.e. from Masters onwards).

 

Nelly's absence (IMHO) just says more about how Golf isn't as mainstream as WNBA (Caitlin Clark, A'Ja Wilson), tennis (Sabalenka), soccer etc.

Finally caught up with this event.. been busy don't judge me. 🤣 And yes very impressed with her all round game, I'd actually say she has a more on plane swing than LG and seems technically very solid. Playing again this week in South Africa so interesting to see if she's build on this win. Will be keeping an eye on it. 👀
