Landmand / Nebraska Trip

Lucky to get a tee time at Landmand for a Sunday in July. My dad and I are planning on making a short trip for his 65th. Now, wanting to add one more round. We are hoping to fly into Omaha Friday night, play [x] Saturday, Landmand Sunday at noon, and fly back Monday. 
 

That said- any recommendations for the other round? Or doors we should try to knock on?

 

Some options we’re considering:

- Tatanka

- Wild Horse (long drive time obviously)

- Prairie Club (longer drive, also do you have to stay to play there? Not clear on website)

- Quarry Ridge

- Exploring a few potential private connects in Omaha

 

Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated. Coming from TX we are pretty unfamiliar but very excited for Landmand. Thanks!

Unless you want to do the long drives I would go to Quarry Oaks. They should be reopened by then and I think it is going to be really good after all the work they have done. Tatanka is fine but I wouldn’t make the drive and if you’re going to drive that far you might as well log a few more hours round trip and go to Wildhorse. Quarry will make for a much easier trip since you’re flying into Omaha.

Thank you. Is Quarry the best public option near Omaha? 
 

Also, like I said, we have a few potential connects for private in Omaha. What are the best options there? Omaha CC seems like the clear best, but how do the others rank?

OCC, Lost Rail, Happy Hollow are all good private options. In Omaha area best public will be Indian Creek or Quarry Oaks with a tier below being Benson, Johnny Goodman, or Bent Tree in Council Bluffs.

Congratulations on getting a tee time at Landmand.  I just got back from Nebraska and was not planning on playing Landmand.  However, I was watching the app and got lucky.  Was supposed to play Bent Tree in Council Bluffs but cancelled.

 

I flew in on Friday morning, drove 3 hours to Awarri Dunes.  Ok conditions, but a fun track and good introduction to the Nebraska sand.  Next day we drove about an hour to Wild Horse Golf Club.  This was my favorite round.  Classic sand hills course with great conditions and completely walkable.  Bonus, it is reasonably priced.  That afternoon we played a little nine holer called Augusta Winds.  After that round we drove to a town about an hour outside of Landmand.

 

Thoroughly enjoyed Landmand.  It is big, bold, and a bit unreal.  I still cannot believe how big some of the greens are or how large the elevation changes are.  Do yourself a favor and buy the yardage book, you will need it to understand how to play it.  It is also laid back golf with 20 minute tee times.  But Landmand is not in the now famous sand hills, it is in the Loess Hills.  Have fun!

 

Yes, the drive times were long but it was well worth it.  If I had to do it over again I would not change a thing.  Oh and one other piece of advice, eat a lot of steak!

I thought Tatanka is supposed to be good?? What’s wrong with it?  I have it on my plan currently.  Drop it?

If you’re going to be driving that way it would be good to play but I wouldn’t drive two hours out of my way to play it over other options.

Tatanka was excellent!  Perfect fairways and greens.  Course was great to play.

Tatonka was awesome. I had a time and a stay at the hotel for maybe $150. It’s a nice track. I would play it. Then visit the town of Minowi and have a beer. Supposedly the least populated town in the USA. Population of 1.

Tatanka is great and a really good public track.

 

Dakota Dunes is private but super easy to get on, just call and ask.  It’s about 30 minutes from Landman.  I believe it held a Sr PGA event at one point.
