Callaway Elyte Driver; Triple Diamond Max Model?

mkidding

Recommended Posts

Pre-Oredered the TD TD. This is my first go round with a TD driver this season, and while spin reduction has been perfect my natural shot shape is a cut/fade so it’s been making it harder for me to hit draws when I want. Hopefully this helps some.

Going to cash in Elyte TD 9.0 head for Elyte TD TD 9.0 and cash in on almost $500 trade in $ with the bonus

I nearly waited for this to launch, but I found A LOT of success with the Elyte TD in 9° compared to the 10.5° I had initially tested against my Ai Smoke TD. I've also got the Aretera EC1 Blue, and it's a heck of a shaft, y'all. The only issue I had with last year's TD Max is that I found it to spin nearly the same as a core model from any manufacturer. The TD Tour Draw looks good. In my opinion, Callaway is trying to get as many people into their driver this year as possible. Their products are gaining traction - not that they didn't have any, but options help get people's interest.

I was not ever really interested in their woods but since putting them in, I seem to find more playability and distance.

I know you were gaming the Smoke TD recently.  What improvements did you see with the Elyte to make the jump?

Is the 9* in Elyte higher launching than the Ai Smoke?

Tighter. I noticed off the heel it wasn’t as spinny as Ai Smoke. For some odd reason, the 10.5 was a downgrade on course, but the 9 is a complete 180 from that, which is why I have it in the bag now. I tried the Elyte TD in 10.5 and was a bit disappointed. I like the crown much better on it compared to Ai Smoke TD so I got the 9 degree on a whim with the Aretera and put it in the bag. I didn’t miss a fairway on the front nine yesterday.

Just indoor testing but the elyte td is a major shift compared to smoke td. Smoke td s a fade machine. Elyte td is a lot less likely to flail offline.

I had to return to this thread to hear what you guys were saying about finally getting a chance to see the Elyte TD Max, but Callaway threw me a curve ball by offering the “Double TD”!  I play the Smoke TD Max and if it can be made better, I was interested…but, the TD TD is way more intriguing.  Could this somehow perform like an Elyte X on steroids?  I never thought I’d see a heel weighted TD.

I can't say since I haven't compared 9° heads and only the 10.5° against one another. The 9° is launching very nicely for me. I play in a ton of wind, and it's been great. It was a true test on Tuesday, as the winds were gusting at 28. The Elyte TD 9° performed so well.

So is this accurate at least on paper?

Smoke TD Max - fade bias

Elyte TD Max - neutral

Elyte TD TD - draw bias

A lot of the comments on the standard Elyte TD since its release mention it as being more draw “favorable” than the Smoke TD Max which is what scared me away from ordering an Elyte TD. That would imply the Elyte TD Max wouldn’t be neutral…

Confused.

Thank you both for the response.  I started last year with the Smoke TD at 10.5.  Previously, I had always been a 9 degree head in Callaway and Taylormade (Stealth 2+), but to get the launch and spin, went to 10.5 from a 9 Paradym.  Like you MerryTex - switched to the TD Max last June and have been happy - fairway finding machine, but based on your journey, took the Smoke TD out yesterday and drove it well and picked up some distance.  I move it pretty good right to left, so the right start line doesn't really impact me, but now I am kind of intrigued as I have heard from many at my club (former Smoke TD users) that Elyte TD is a step up.

I thought the Elyte TD was more draw "favorable" than the AI Smoke TD, not the Max, meaning just less fade.  Smoke TD Max more neutral, same with Elyte TD Max.  Then TD TD actually draw biased.

I enjoy saying TD TD so much I might have to bag one for that reason alone.

So, if with smoke td you found it to eliminate a left miss but you had to work to draw it, then elyte td will feel like it doesn't go left and also is easy to hit a draw.

Elyte td plays VERY similarly to td max. But td max at [loft] and elyte td at [loft+1] to be the same.

Jimmy Walker has the TD Max in the bag at Houston.  It's a thing.  And my retailer is showing it in their system..  4/4.

Got a sneak peak yesterday at my local PGASS. It’s dirty. The Ai Smoke has already been good to me, I’ll be shocked if I don’t own one 24 hours from now.

I am still 100% on the AI Smoke TD Max being fade bias.  I does sit more neutral vs the AISTD and Max, but it has a fade tendency.  I have always been a draw player with a hook problem shot in the F9, TSi3, and LTDX.  I gave the TD Max its full month and returned it due to it's tendency to fade undesireably.  I would note that if you put a heavier weight in the front, it would bring the draw back.  My buddy bought one after me, and now has big right problem.

Anyone compare the Epic Speed to the Elyte line?

I just scheduled a fitting for next weekend.  My local shop said they didn't have any in stock yet, but should have them by end of next week.

Hit a few balls with my TD Max 9 deg, it is fantastic. Coming from the GT3 it is night and day easier for me to hit well. Just wants to fly high and straight, just tipped the Autoflex with a green dot adapter so it should be fun to dial it down to 7 deg and let it rip.

Took out the 9 gr weight and put in a 2gr in the back and 4gr in the front. SW with the GD AD VF @ 46" is D1 so should be perfect for the autoflex.

The Aretera upgrade for only 100 bucks makes any one of them a no-brainer.  The Elyte TD feels a lot crisper off the face than my Smoke TD Max, so I’m hoping for the same with the Elyte TD Max.  The Elyte TD played with a fade bias for me.  I also played the regular Smoke TD, and it was definitely fade biased.  The Smoke TD Max plays more neutral for me, and easier to turn over (I struggled turning over the Smoke TD).  I’m thinking the TD TD will turn out to be a faders best friend by taming the fade a little.

Which stores? If you buy one from one of these stores will you sell to me if I cover shipping and your cost of the club?  It’s not listed on the website anymore under the specs.  I was told directly by the guy I spoke to at Callaway it was listed for a few hours in error on the day of launch.
