Starting a golf league...Help Appreciated!

Hello all,
 
My friends and I are looking to start a golf league and need advice, ideas, and options on how to get this thing started. 
 
I want to preface this by saying none of us have ever organized a league before, so we are starting from ground zero. 
 
We plan on having 10-12 people and the league running from March 1 to July 1. 
 
Handicaps of the group range from 2 to 18. 
 
So far, we have discussed the following:
 
Using a Stableford scoring method to track 2 rounds per month over the course of 5 months. Ideally, we will be playing together but we decided early on to let people report scores from other rounds in case they cannot play on days the larger group can. 
 
The points from the Stableford will accumulate over the season and the highest point holder will be the winner at the end of the season. 
 
Cash games can be played separately on days we get together and play. 
 
Is this something that makes sense? Do you see any way we could make this better or more interesting.

Most leagues I've played in used the + - points system.  Play 3 rounds and record your points. This establishes an average base number of points each player needs each round.  You play to your points plus or minus. Payouts are based on the most points over the players established points.  Your points are based each week on the average of the last 3 weeks points.  Keeps things pretty even when playing with handicaps that far apart.  The 2 handicap will need close to 34 points and the 18 handicap will need about 18 points.  

 

Double bogey or worse - 0

Bogey - 1

Par - 2

Birdie - 3

Eagle - 4

Ace - 5

 

Keeps things moving as you can pick up after bogey as anything over is 0 anyways.

One thing a league I'm in does is allow playing on a non league day, however one other player there. Not saying it happens but a solo round and someone shooting a career round will irk some.

 

If possible consider adding weekly matchups? Perhaps once handicap and quotas are established the match winner gets extra and extra point or two.
