JPX 925 Forged

Recommended Posts

Advertising dropped today for these. Looking forward to them. Looks like they are releasing chrome and black models right away. Pre order starts Jan 24 and release Feb 6.

side note- there was a 4 page thread on pre release forum but it’s gone now. Had a lot of good info. Why was it deleted?

Strange there doesn’t seem to be much noise about these (?) They weren’t on my radar at all, but I’m kind of wondering if they should be. I love the tool Mizuno has to compare irons. Looks like these are just barely bigger than the 245 on paper, and not too far off of the 243. Sole looks really good, too.

Would I be right to compare this to i230? And is the profile smaller like I’m imagining it to be? Could be a winner if so.

Agreed on the lofts. I don’t get it. Better players don’t want a 43* pw. I also don’t really want to bend weak and increase bounce. So what, you go 43* pw, 48* gap, 53*, 58*? Kind of a bummer. I like carrying a 60*

I’m really interested in the triple cut sole. A forgiving iron that has a thin sole because of the cuts. I’m still playing 718 AP2 because I have a shallow swing and have yet to find a players iron with a pre worn leading edge.

Another plus is my choice of shaft which i use in all my irons is KBS C taper lite and that’s actually the stock shaft for USA specs.

But my concerns are that they seem to have increased bounce from previous generations and have jacked the lofts to ridiculous specs. The 7i is 30° which is my 6i in AP2 😂

New level irons have a pre worn leading edge. Looks like the new Mizuno S3 will have this triple cut sole with pre worn leading edge. Both 34* 7 irons.

Can any mizuno enthusiasts help me understand the key differences between these and the 243?

The face is thinner, so the Forged is "hotter" with stronger lofts. The Forged is about 3.5 mm longer heel-toe and has a little bit more offset. The topline might be the biggest difference: Forged is 2 mm thicker.

243 = classic

Forged = modern

Thank you for this.  I am playing the T100 right now and need a little more distance, particularly in the longer irons.  Hitting a tee ball 290, but a 6 iron only 175 is problematic when playing the tips.

I may give them both a try and see what I like more.

I see they jacked the lofts stronger on these also. Disappointing…

I noticed as well.  I'm eyeing the Srixon zx7 mkii's and I love that they kept he lofts traditional as my z745s.

finally got to see and hit these last week. Even though the top line is thicker, the black version hides it so well that it looks amazing. They round the back edge of the black top line so it almost looks like T150 thin to me

I know they're not the current version but...

I ended up buying a set of the JPX923 Forged with DG S300 105g shafts after hitting them at PGA Tour Superstore yesterday.  I first hit the Wilson DynaPwr Forged and actually had the boxed set in hand because my ball speed was increased by about 10mph with them and they went dead straight even on slight mishits.  Son suggested I try the Mizunos.  Same results, but the feel was absolutely incredible. Got them very reasonable as the clearance pricing just dropped on them.  4-PW for $875 price matched from Carl's Golfland.

As far as differences between Srixon ZX7 and the 923s?  I had the Srixons in early 2024.  Started messing around with JDM graphites due to elbow and hand pain and got off track.  The 923s feel better, easier to hit straight and go longer in my hands. I thoroughly enjoyed playing the Srixons then.  Can't wait to go south in a couple weeks and hit them outdoors. We're over ankle deep in snow here.

I’m not sure how long the courses are you’re playing but you hit a decently long ball off of the tee. Why is a 175 6 iron problematic? are you playing courses with many par 4’s over 465?

I drive the ball 300- 320 total and even on longer courses for my area (6800-7100) there’s maybe 2-3 holes max where I would have more than 140-150 out. It’s usually 120ish or less on approach shot though

With your example, you’re at 145 and I’m at 165-175+ on 3-4 of the holes. Plus 1-2 long par 3s, throw in a short par 5. That’s 5-7 holes, a third of the round. It’s not an insignificant part of the game.

I also struggle with launch in the higher irons, which I believe these clubs to do better than my current gamers. Shafts are probably most important here though.

These look nice. I wonder how the black holds up.

Reading on them they seem to say they baked the finish into the metal and it’s not just a coating so it’s supposed to last quite well. Hopefully they did it as good as Cobra does. Cobra is the best at black irons. They don’t seem to wear at all

I just ordered the satin king tours over the black. If the KTs were chrome, I’d go black, but went with satin.

You think the 923 feels better than the zx7? I have the 923 currently but liked the feel of the zx7 more.

Would the 925 forged offer any forgiveness advantage over the ZX7s?  Probably negligible.

I feel like the JPX series is way more forgiving. I couldn’t play the ZX7, tried for two rounds and it was bad. My gamers were 923 forged last year and I demo’s the 925 forged and they felt even easier to hit and more forgiving

What was it about the zx7 that you didn't didn't get along with? Sole design?

Wouldn't think there would be be a huge diff compared to 923 forged... The tech in the 925 looks to be a significant jump in forgiveness.  Would love to see comparisons pics to srixon if anyone has them.

Positively drooling over the black ones. Have been playing the 923 Forged (long irons 4i - 6i) almost since they were released. Absolutely excellent clubs.

Actually, lofts are the same as the 923 forged, I think.

Absolutely drooling over the black ones. I've been playing the 923 Forged (at the long end of my bag ... 4i - 6i) almost since they were released. Excellent clubs. Have been patiently waiting to see the 925s. Love the look of the sole grind. Subtle, but from the pictures, I think I see what they are trying to do.

Also extremely pleasantly surprised to see the SteelFiber i95 as a shaft option. I re-shafted my 923s myself with that shaft and am really a fan of them.

yeah the soles just don’t work for me. I could hit them perfectly off a tee on par 3’s. But turf interaction was awful. I have a shallow swing and heard they don’t work well for that.
