What are people seeing for distance on the 7iron? Consistency good? Getting many jumpers?

I hit the 925F 7i at the range the other week, must've hit at least 50 balls. I wasn't striking it particularly well that evening but didn't see a massive disparity between the 925F and my 919 Tour 7i, although that is 1/2" longer and the 925F was in a standard length shaft. It was pretty chilly too, think around 1-2℃ so I wasn't carrying it much over 165 yards (~88mph SS 7i) with poor strikes still being punished (I'm talking really poor strikes though).

I remember catching a couple right out of the screws with the 925F with consecutive good swings, soft draw dynamics which both carried 175 which is more of what I'd expect from a strong lofted 7i. But no real jumpers to answer your question, those swings were probably the best ones of the night. Feel was great out of the middle... despite my freezing cold hands!

It is not a V type sole is it? From the pictures it does not seem to be Srixon like. But I am interested to look them up and see in person, maybe take some swings.

I got to hit this at DSG tonight, it felt very good. I will say I have not played or even held an iron in my hand in a couple months and I was a little intimidated. As I’m getting older and not playing as much I’m leaning towards GI. I hit the 925 HMP as well and thought I was nice. I’m shocked how close the two are in measurements, but HMP is that more forgiving.

Does anyone know if you can customize specs on Mizuno golf website orders or do you have to order from their stock options…seems crazy but I can’t find any sort of custom options.

Don’t think so, but many retailers have the option.

Carl’s Golfland has a nice customization tab on their website.
I ordered a custom 923 series set through them and it was a trouble free transaction.

Does anyone have any experience playing the JPX Tours vs JPX Forged?

I am thinking of doing a mixed set: PW-8=Tour and 8-5=Forged. Having two 8 irons has strong Phil vibes for better or worse.

Only thing is you would have to combo them with the old JPX tours. They aren’t making them anymore it’s been replaced by the S3 line. But in the past I knew a bunch would combo them up and it would work well although the forged require some loft weakening because as they sit it’s ridiculous strong. Like my AP2 7i 34° vs the JPX forged 7i is 30°. That’s an entire club lol

That's why I was going to have 2 8 irons. Tour at 38* and Forged at 34*. I didn't realize that about the Tour being discontinued though. I thought it was just going to be a later release date. Thanks for the info.

Is the jpx forged .370 or .355, the previous jpx 923 tour was .355 so maybe that is just mizuno standard.

Messing around @ Carl's and they have steelfiber i95 in reg, but it does not look like the i95 cw taper.

The reason I asked is I "believe" the stock SF i95 is .370 and the CW is taper, but I could also be wrong about that also.

These irons really do seem to check all the boxes, maybe ordered a deg. Or two weak they would be a dangerous tool.

Yes it's their V sole. Just a little pre worn leading edge and now they're calling it their "VT" sole, but it's clearly still their V sole.

I was reading another review on them today and the guy was saying the same thing. That in the soft turf of winter golf they are great but once summer comes and the ground becomes hardpan it’s gonna be a different story because it’s not gonna bounce off the hardpan.

This worries me as I don’t get along with Srixon sole because of it and might be a no go then. I have a shallow swing. Wish I could try them off grass somewhere.

The 80 and 95 aren’t marked CW except on the label under the grip. If you’re worried, get out the callipers.

Mine are labeled i95 CW and are definitely .355, I have owned quite a few sets and personally can tell the difference between the .370 and .355.

Now this could all be in the build, but to me the .370 played stiffer and back then I played stiff flex SSx1, where now I just go Reg. straight in with the tapers and they are just right.

Can a place like Carl's Soft step a build? not seeing the option to customize except from Fairway Jockey or People's in a quick look.

You can definitely do that. I've done it for awhile with my 921 forged and old MP60s. thing is, at least with the 921s, there wasn't much point to it. the 921s switch to solid 1025e forged at the 8 iron, so its already a 'combo' set. you might get a slightly lower ball flight and slightly more spin with the MP60s, but the forgiveness of the forged is night and day, especially on toe strikes. the same will apply to the Tours.

I hate how Mizuno gaps their forged line in the 9-PW-GW. I have the 9 bent to 39 and PW bent to 43. I dropped the GW and use my MP60 PW which is stock 47.

I agree with the gaps are bad. With a 43* distance iron the biggest gap in my bag would be between PW and GW.

Are the fitting heads supposed to be out in the main stream stores yet? I know lots of folks here have inside connections to get an early look.

Played zx5 in both models for a few seasons. Liked them, the results were very good, they are not bad looking. They always had a clicky feel and sound. It didn’t bother me that much due to the results on mishits.

Then,

Just hit my set of jpx925 forged at the range. The forgiveness is excellent. The soles are thin and they feel very good. Distance was very consistent, mishits still go.

I won’t be going back to the srixons.

I ordered them one degree weak/one degree upright with dg mid 115 s300 shafts

Playing a round next week hopefully. I will report back using non range balls and not off a mat.

Thank you for this.  I am playing the T100 right now and need a little more distance, particularly in the longer irons.  Hitting a tee ball 290, but a 6 iron only 175 is problematic when playing the tips.

I may give them both a try and see what I like more.

Comeing from a T100 I think you should go with the Pro 243. The Forged might be too big of a jump from your current setup.

can't wait to hear results!

Just got back, ended up ordering the 925 forged. My current irons are 923 hot metal pro, I was getting almost identical distance, but better spin, peak height and descent angle from the forged after going through a few shafts. I hit the 245 as well, they were my least favorite of the 3 to be honest. I really wanted to like them more because I love the look, but I got better performance from both HMP and forged, the feel of the forged was the best for me personally.

Mizuno experts, does Mizuno's stated club length include the grip or is that the cut shaft pre grip?

Also those that have already received the 925 forged is the build quality up to par? I remember a while back the quality as in specs (L/L/L) were all over the place, maybe that was the covid effect and it has been resolved.

My 2 sets of 925FB and also my HMP from the fall were all good quality builds with no issues. As far as length I believe that’s with grip on, but can try and measure when I get home later.
