I got to hit the 925 forged over the weekend. I play 923 forged now. Side by side from the top they look the same. I do like the looks of the tri-cut sole but I'm not sure how it'll play off grass.

The irons feel the same, which is what I'd expect given the same chromoly 7 iron. I love the feel of the 923 forged and the forgiveness is about the right match for my 10 handicap. These are basically a split set with chromoly long irons and 1025e 8-gw. The short irons do not have copper underlay like the 923 tour had, but I still like the sound and feel. They definitely feel different from the chromoly long irons. The long irons have more of a punch / click whereas the short irons are a deader sound with a heavier feel on impact, is the best way I can describe my perception.

The 923 forged have been about perfect for me. The only negative is I find the gapping a bit big. My on course swing is probably around 85mph on my 7 iron, but I have a bit lower launch and can carry 170. 8i around 155 and 9 iron around 140.

The other irons I really liked were the Cobra King Tours and I think the gapping would be better, but they maybe aren't as forgiving or have quite as good of feel (to me).

The new black irons look fantastic in the photos. Combined with great feel, good distance, and good forgiveness, and I think these will be popular clubs.

Hold on, wait a minute....you mean to tell me the new clubs don't make me a better golfer? 😉

This was my experience with the 223s. The chromoly infused seemed to be just a bit hotter and impacted the gapping.

Have been playing the 925forgeds for the past week. Only 2 rounds on them, but have really liked the performance so far. I was gaming the zx5 mkii's previously (still have them) in the same $taper 130 shafts, so most everything is apples to apples. I'm liking everything I'm seeing from the 925 forged so far. They certainly feel a bit better, imo, than the zx5s. I will say the zx5s may be a hair more forgiving, but I think that says more to the 925s not losing much in the way of forgiveness. The new tricut sole is no v sole, but it's helping me get through the turf rather effortlessly. I havent done a deep dive into the specs, but I will say that 925s feel slightly heavier than the zx5s, which is something I don't love, but I'll need to get that measured on my own.

I've got a round on the books for friday away from my home course so will be interesting to see what I can do with them in unfamiliar territory.

What’s your 7i swing speed with the $taper 130? Been debating between s and x. I’ve used both in different brands

Anywhere from 87-90ish... I could probably play less stiff, but I don't have trouble elevating the ball and have always gotten along with heavier shafts. Might just be a mind trick, but I've felt they've helped with tempo.

Yeah I’m about the same. KBS says 85-90 S. 90-95 s+. But everyone’s different. If I’m going lighter I go X if I’m 120-130 gram I’m leaning towards S. Was using x100s for a bit and my wrist wasn’t agreeable with them after hitting a bunch. 120ish for me seems about the sweet spot for stability with more manageable weight. Using modus 115x right now. Probably be in the $taper next. Was hitting it really well.

Not to take this thread too far off course, but yes, I also think that these swing weight a little lighter given their balance point being where it is on the shaft, but I suppose thats why they have fittings!

Ok boys- hit the ZXi5, 925 Forged, 925 HMP and 245 Pros:

1.) HMP, Forged and ZXi5’s look very similar to previous models and all look very similar from address to my eye.
2.) HMP and ZXi5 were a fraction hotter with ball speed than 925F and 245.

3.) Looks, in order, from best to least at address: 245, 925F, ZXi5, 925HMP

4.) Feel- which is subjective I know: 245, 925F, ZXi5 then 925HMP

5.) Distance: 925 HMP, then ZXi5 (-2 yards), 925F and 245 (-3.5 yards)

6.) Accuracy: 245, ZXi5, 925F, 925HMP

I went into today thinking I’d be ordering the Black 925 Forged with black Project X LZ 6.5 shafts. After many shots and truly being fit, I was blown away by the feel, look, distance and control by the Pro 245. I have never hit any of these irons prior to today. I’m mad at myself I hadn’t even touched a 245 prior to today.
As of right now, after mulling it over with a glass/bottle of  wine, I will be ordering the Pro 245’s with KBS $ Taper 130Xs. The Black 925F are sexy as hell. I wanted them to win so bad- and it could’ve been the fact I was hitting a black head with a chrome shaft (I told my fitter that btw 😂), but the 245’s really were dominating every aspect of what we look for. I don’t have a perfect swing by any means, I’m super fast tempo with a very forward shaft lean at impact and the 245 just worked for my swing better than the others.
Feel free to fire away with questions. The conditions were pretty great, 63* with a left to right wind- only thing was we were hitting off a mat. So I can’t give you any feedback on turf interaction.

Hey there! Thanks for this analysis. I've tried many of the same clubs and shared similar experiences and opinions. I noticed you have the 925f's in your signature. Did you have a change of heart from the 245's? I only ask because I sold my set of 245s for the 925f's and looking for fellow affirmation!

Does the new tri cut sole play like Srixons V sole off the turf? I can’t hit the V sole so have never got along with Srixon irons off turf. Perfectly fine off a tee on par 3’s. I think my shallow swing iis why. I’ve hit the 925 off mats indoor and they feel great but weary of ordering a set since I can’t try them outside and afraid if they are like srixon I won’t be able to hit them. Alternatively, the pre worn leading edge on my gamers 718 AP2 helps me. Hoping the 925 is like the AP2 sole.

Ya, my fitter called me and we talked through it and he suggested I stick with the 925FBs. He said their slightly more forgiving face will do wonders for me when I’m not swinging it great and will have a noticeable improvement on mishits for distance control. It also helped that I found some black $Tapers on here to blackout the set!! I should hopefully have the clubs tomorrow and will try and hit them this weekend!

I saw firsthand in a fitting how fast these are using trackman. Warming up saw 117-119 ball speed with a fitting 7 iron. Swing was low to mid 80s. After a while tried to hit some hard and got SS up to 86-87. Peak BS was 125. Seeing well over 1.4 smash. I wanted to see how this compared to i530 which I considered fast. Best BS was 120. Literally 5 more mph difference and the 530 has 1* more loft at 29*. I don't really care about "far" but as the fitter said, that BS equals forgiveness on mishits.

I ordered a stock black set thanks to a great WRXer and got mine yesterday. Took them to be checked. Lofts were all very close, lies were off a decent amount. I ended up bending 4-6 1* weak and 7-P 2* weak. This hit my numbers pretty well for what I want which is 165 7 iron and the height is amazing. I compared directly with my 243s and these are definitely spinning a bit less and flying 3-5 farther with the same or better height. Balls are stopping right where they land so holding greens isn't an issue. I can step on these and they will go a full club longer than the 243s if needed but I didn't buy them for that. The only reason I even considered them is the additional forgiveness.

Just my two cents, but it's no v-sole. I'd lean more towards a pre worn leading edge similar to the AP2's.

No marks at all on the hosels. There are a few with the vice marks on the sole but nothing in the finish. We've been on matts on the range while some irrigation has been repaired. Our range is overseeded and very sandy in the winter. I expect these to really wear from practice but Ive already prepared myself for that.

i can deal with wear from playing but I want to be able to bend them without being dinged up. Hopefully the only wear mark will be in the center of the clubface

So why the 2 degrees weak on the shorter irons and not the same degree across the set? Just to space out the longer irons more or was that with testing?
