Mizuno JPX 925 Forged & Forged Black Irons! In-Hand Pics!

Thanks for the comparison pics @eddiebigeddie .  They look really good and I'm really surprised they look to be shorter blade length than the zx7 at least in the 8i.  

 

Blade lengths with the 925F seem to be nicely progressive - that 5 iron looks friendly.

 

I went in to one of my local B&Ms to try and check them out but they are not in yet.  Hopefully you are going to get these out on the course this weekend and can give us some more feedback.  

 

You have alot of irons, it'll be interesting to see you decide what goes in the bag.

Currently have 925 HMP, ZX5 MKII & 0211 XCOR2 Darkness and now these 925 BF.

 

Size wise largest to smallest:

XCOR2 in process of selling

ZX5 in the running

HMP currently for sale 

FORGED in the running

 

i try and keep 2 sets…gamer set when playing a lot and backup “more forgiving” when not playing a lot. Smallest set I’ve had was the 245 this past summer and they were very similar to the Forged in size.

Anyone have any comparison pics of these vs 923 forged? Would be interested to see if they are more compact and top line/sole comparison

I’m a 10. I came to the conclusion years ago I can shoot 82 with irons I hate the feel of and can’t stand looking at. Or 84 with irons I love the feel of and love looking at. I’ll gladly take those 2 strokes. Just me obviously. We all play for our own reasons

Do the 8-GW have a slot, or are they solid 1025 all the way through like the 243 irons?

Yeah, I am assuming they dont have a slot also.  All the info on line is focused on the longer irons and I haven't seen where they make it clear on the short irons.  

 

Anyone know if the 923 forged 8-gap were solid, or did they have a slot milled?

I really like the look of the new JPX forged irons especially in black.  I'd be coming from JPX 900's circa 2016 which are still in great shape.  Is there much improvement from the 900's to the new 925's?

 

I personally can't imagine these would be any "better" than the 900's I'm currently playing.

I luv the BLACK look but is there any truth to the suggestion that the black would not be quite as 'soft' feeling as the satin finish ?  I prefer the softer feel, so I'd sacrifice looks over feel if I do decide to buy these.

I want to know also.  Cool vs Feel is important to me. I'm also considering  the Mizuno T3 48  gap because of the Copper underlay and it only comes with satin silver finish. Thought appreciated.

I have a set of the black but have not hit them yet due to temps and snow still on the ground…but just chipping a ball in the house and the fact that the face is grey/satin finish I can not tell a difference between the black vs satin.

Is that a thing? I’ve never heard that but curious now. Would definitely be a deciding factor between the two finishes if true. But can’t see what would actually cause it to feel different unless the materials actually change when they add black to hold the color

Industry 'experts' I've spoken to tend to suggest that the black is a coating and this takes away - in a minor way - from the soft feel you might get from the original satin-finished version. I've not had a chance to test this theory.

There wasn’t a noticeable difference in my opinion to these between the black and standard. If you can feel a difference you’re either a surgeon or Tiger

I have a set of the black and there’s zero difference. Also even though they’re black, the face is satin/grey so not technically coated black like the rest of the head.

sent Mizuno an email and said we want them in blue/copper and black mix with some chrome highlights.

I went into today thinking I’d be ordering the Black 925 Forged with black Project X LZ 6.5 shafts. After many shots and truly being fit, I was blown away by the feel, look, distance and control by the Pro 245. I have never hit any of these irons prior to today. I’m mad at myself I hadn’t even touched a 245 prior to today.
As of right now, after mulling it over with a glass/bottle of  wine, I will be ordering the Pro 245’s with KBS $ Taper 130Xs. The Black 925F are sexy as hell. I wanted them to win so bad- and it could’ve been the fact I was hitting a black head with a chrome shaft (I told my fitter that btw 😂), but the 245’s really were dominating every aspect of what we look for. I don’t have a perfect swing by any means, I’m super fast tempo with a very forward shaft lean at impact and the 245 just worked for my swing better than the others. 
Feel free to fire away with questions. The conditions were pretty great, 63* with a left to right wind- only thing was we were hitting off a mat. So I can’t give you any feedback on turf interaction.

I didn't because in the past the ZX5's were just so much better for me in terms of forgiveness.

That's interesting. Given the noticeable compactness of the 925Fs and 245 vs the ZXi5, would have expected the ZXi7 to be more in line with the 925F and below the 245 in the forgiveness space. 

 

Makes me more intrigued on switching to Mizunos. I'm on the OG ZX5s and they're still killer, just looking for something less bulky and workable now that I'm finally getting my index into high single digits.

This is exactly me. Currently playing OGZX5s myself.

When I saw the 925Fs and 245 I thought to myself, no way, these will be way too penalizing. But they aren't... they both, to me, are more forgiving than the ZX7's (which I need), but look more like the ZX7 then the bulky ZX5s...
