Mission Hills Haikou / Shenzen

Has anyone made it out to play at either of these resorts? Looking to book a trip with some guys, but not sure if its worth the travel from California?

The stay/play packages are pretty inexpensive, and courses look great, but its more the value of travel time...but seems like some unique opportunities for golf.

would really appreciate any feedback from wrx'ers that have been.

Never been to Mission Hills Haikou but I have played at Mission Hills Shenzhen many times.  It's a nice resort, with at least six 18 hole championship courses all within the ground.  Condition is generally very good.  Caddies and carts are mandatory.  Happy to answer more specific questions if you have any.

Thx for the reply Ed. I actually have been to the MH Shenzen but quite a few years ago. Trying to figure out if the courses are good (fun/interesting) enough to warrant a buddies trip to golf in China from Los Angeles. It's strange how little info online there is about the courses in terms of reviews and/or even YouTube content.

Just thinking it might be kind of a cool and different option for golf - jsut dont want to fly all the way out there and have the golf be mediocre.

I think the condition of the courses would generally be very nice.  The only complaint I have is that sometimes the greens are super slow because it is easier to maintain slower greens.  It's a long way to travel for golf.  Personally I would opt to play at somewhere like Streamsong or Bandon instead.  Good luck.  Let me know how it goes.

Heads up, I live in Dongguan, used to be a member at mission hills, all depends on when? November through March is best for weather and course conditions, but expensive and packed like you won't believe. April through July they punch the tees and greens every other week and it's hot and humid as heck. July through November reasonable chance you'll face a typhoon day or two. I host a tour group every July in Haikou, it hammers down rain every single afternoon. Imo Haikou is better, Shenzhen gets beat to death by the hongkong members

I would not make that trip to Mission Hills from California.  Better to consider a trip to Vietnam...they've built some great courses over the last 5-6 years.  Also close to Thailand so can also play there or take a short island vacay before flying back.

I agree with that, the golf courses in Danang are far better than mission hills or Thailand for that matter, the only issue with Vietnam is you must have foursomes, for example if you have odd numbers they will make you pay the extra green fees, they don't pair you up with other people, traveling for golf solo is very difficult in Asia

To original OP - consider reaching out to these guys if you wind up doing a trip to SE Asia. They will handle everything associated with the golf itself but can also help with accommodations. No affiliation, just a satisfied customer from using them a few times in Thailand. Was going to do an epic Vietnam boys trip last year but got vetoed at last minute.

My kid is playing an event at this course next month...I've never been but its on my own list.  Grass is a strain not normally used in Asia; supposedly legitimate link-style conditions - except for the weather!

100% agree...those courses were also scheduled on my vetoed boys trip.

Hope @Bizzle80 is still watching this thread even though I dashed his southern china trip idea!
