Used Original SkyTrak or New MLM2Pro - Pick one

I seem to be down to an OG SKytrak or new MLM2Pro for backyard use almost exclusively focused on practice (not much interest in simulation at this time). The advantage of smaller required space (OG ST) kind of cancels the new vs. old in my mind. Then there are a myriad of additional differences. What do others think about this choice (obviously driven by economics)?

Something else to consider: Rapsodo has been pretty good about updating the mlm2pro fairly regularly.

I recently got the MLM2Pro and have been liking it so far. I have 90 days to return it, so I am hoping the club data gets released by then. If it doesn't I am not sure if I will keep it or not, but the ability to use it on the range is high for me. If I decide to keep it I will likely buy the square LM for home practice and MLM for the range, as I can get both with lifetime subscription for cheaper than the Mevo+

I’ve had both. I had the OG Skytrak on a 60 day trial and only returned it because of buyer’s remorse over price. I paid over $2k with the metal case. It worked great and I really enjoyed the app. I also used it outdoors into a net and appreciated the ease of setup and smaller space requirements. I live in the DFW area and never had any issue with direct sunlight.

I owned the MLM2 Pro for almost a full year. I sold it last May or June. I thought the app was awful. It worked, but the design was just clunky. It just wasn’t worth the $200/year subscription, so I sold it before the free subscription ran out. The upshot is that I was able to sell it for exactly what I paid, since I had purchased an open box unit. I know that there have been several app updates since I sold mine and that Rapsodo now offers a $500 lifetime subscription. I still preferred the Skytrak app over Rapsodo’s. I don’t recall all of the details, but they’re documented in the MLM2 thread.

Both devices are very accurate, but you need the specially marked balls for the MLM2. After I sold the MLM2, I ended up with the Voice Caddie SC300i. I had also tested it on a trial, but it was priced at $550 back then, which I thought was too much for a device that didn’t show trajectory/dispersion. Got one at the end of last year for $250, which feels about right and is in the same ballpark as PRGR, but more accurate IMO. I just like having something I can turn on, set down and hit balls with no app or internet connection required. I really only need distance when practicing into the net.

I have both. I prefer the user interface / software of the SkyTrak but think the MLM2Pro is a step up. I get very similar numbers from both but way more no reads with SkyTrak. My SkyTrak does sit on the mat so if the mat moves at all, the reads are pretty inaccurate.

If MLM2Pro would incorporate a closest to the pin challenges within the app, I would be 100% pleased with my MLM2Pro.

Yes and no. If you are not using mats then its function is compromised by flying grass and (maybe) divots changing the height of the ball or you have to move the setup as you move the ball position. From what I have read the sun issue can be managed with simple shading of the device when the sun is at the wrong angle. This problem seems to be less severe than the recently announced Square Golf LM. dave

Subscription price aside (you can use Skytrak range with no annual subscription) it is really going to be space dependent. Whether you have the room behind the ball and ball to net to make the radar unit work properly. Skytrak requires no space other than your swing or stickers to read the ball flight.
