Cobra King 3DP Tour

Based upon the initial reviews and feedback of the 3DP Tour, I suspect Callaway, Taylormade, Titleist and everyone else have already made a massive investment in their own 3D printing capabilities. This feels like one of those evolutionary steps in golf, much like moving from persimmon to metal heads for drivers. There are just so many directions 3D can take golf club design within the same year that a casting or forging process just haven't.

5 years, 7 years from now, will anyone be surprised if all OEMs are 3D printing irons?

Based on what happened with Callaway copying the DF3, they’ll probably produce an exact replica of the 3DP and call it the 4DP.

I really like the fact that the lofts get to 45 pe and 50 gap wedge. Based on the specs I’d probably only need 6-GW

Ping G430 10k 9* HZRDUS 6.0 50

Callaway Elyte Mini Driver 11.5* 5.5

Ping G430 3 and 4 Hybrid Alta CB S (Ping G430 5w swapped in for the 3h based on conditions)

Ping i230 5-GW Alta CB S

Vokey SM10 54S and 58M DG105 Shafts

They're doing a good job of keeping up the hype with the drip feed. Not too worried, I have a few other sets I can put together between now and early 2026.

Very much going to be watching the results if they slim it down into a modern MB.

I just bought a limit3d set and will have no qualms switching to the MB if it comes out. I don't think I can ever go back to regular irons.

Curious why they didn’t work out for you?

Short irons were world class. Maybe the best ever. The long irons I hit way too high. Like 4 irons that were sometimes 150' in the air. I'm already a high ball hitter, and I was having to try and hit these a few grooves low.

Plus, I'd like to buy a small CNC mill.

The height in the long irons is a good thing for me. So easy to elevate. If you are already a high ball hitter I could see how it could be a problem.

I thought about keeping the Cobra short irons and doing ZX5/7 in the long and mid irons. But my OCD took over.

I'm currently testing T150s vs 3DPs, height and spin have never been an issue for me but the 3DPs are lower.

My averages:

~92mph SS

Ball Speed                        Spin                      Peak Height             Launch              Descent

Titleist T150s - 32*              124mph                       7000rpm                      105 ft                     19*                     51*

(Project X 6.0 LZ)

Cobra 3DPs - 31*                 124mph                       5500rpm                      103 ft                     17*                     49*

(KBS $ Taper 120)

Cobra 3DPs - 32*                 126mph                       6250rpm                      106 ft                     18*                     51*

(KBS $ Taper 120)

Cobra 3DPs - 32*                 125mph                       6500rpm                       112 ft                     19*                     50*

(Project X 6.0 LZ)

I will note, the type of ball really makes a difference. I'm starting to test balls now since the 3DPs have/can be quite low spinning:

TP5                               All # numbers provided above were with TP5

TP5x                                         same as above / - height

Prov1                                         +250rpm / same height

Prov1x                                       +250rpm / same height

Srixon Z star Diamond             +250rpm / same height

Srixon XV                                  +250rpm / + height

Bridgestone E6                         -250rpm / - height

Bridgestone Tour BX                +250rpm / + height

Kirkland Sig                               -250rpm / - height

TM Tour Response                    -250rpm / - height

These are just some initial #s with about 10-20 hits each. Might be worth looking into

They're definitely lower spinning for sure. Vs my Mizuno Pro 243 I'm seeing about 500rpm less per club but they launch high enough and holding greens isnt an issue.

Im surprsied TP5 and TP5x spin the same for you. TP5x has always been one of the lower spinning balls I've found. Highly recommend Bridgestone Tour B XS if you're looking for a spinny ball now for irons

took 3 months but I finally got a round outside with these. The performance is so darn good. Immediate feedback on my first approach shot. Hit one thin / low on the face and expected it to be 20 yards short but sure enough it ended up about 25 feet short of the pin.

I still prefer the looks, feel, and sound of the mizuno pro 243 but from a performance perspective I dont think anything is as good as the 3DP's. For me the Pro 243's have been my favorite iron of all time so its been hard to dethrone them. On a recent golf trip i took the Pro 243's over the 3DP bc i have that much confidence in them. The Pro 243's have enough pop and more spin than 3DP but I would be lying to myself if I said at the end of the day that the 243's are a better overall iron. The forgiveness of the 3DP's outweighs the low spin

My golf spy test was interesting, struggling to understand how it had such a bad score for forgiveness compared to other better players irons.

My guess is spin.

i hit them on a day I was hitting a couple other irons.  With the my normal swing they didn’t spin enough, went 12 yards longer than the other two irons and had some knuckley flights that gave me worse dispersion.  I also noticed that when I hit the other irons, I had done some swing things unintentionally to increase dynamic loft cause the 3dp was coming out so hot.

i do think they are the best at maintaining launch angle and ballspeed of anything it’s size, they just need to make them spin about 1000 revs more per club
