Best Budget Range Finder

Recommended Posts

I've seen a lot of really bad reviews for Blue Tees like they are junk. I've never heard of RedTiger or GoGoGo before.

I've seen TecTecTec come up with solid reviews and PrecisionPro is solid too especially with the battery replacements.

I've seen RedTiger, Blue Tees and Gogogo all get good reviews for budget range finders. Does anyone have experience with any of these or others I might have missed?

I’ve had a Precision Pro NX7 for years that works great. Plus they send me new batteries for free anytime I need them.

I have the GoGoGo version with the magnet and slope, and it is great. Fast, accurate, reliable with a USB-C rechargeable battery that lasts forever. Even better, if you leave it on the cart it will actually make it to the lost and found for you to collect later, cause no one is stealing it.

If I lost it tomorrow, I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.

Another vote for Precision Pro

I tried a bevy of them except red tiger in your list.

I can add tectec milessey shotscope etc.

What is the cut off on being a budget range finder? Some mentioned I would not consider budget but YMMV.

I think tectec is a good bang for buck especially around $80.

Really you are paying for build quality and only when you get to the~$300 range you start getting better optics.

+1 on CaddyTek from Costco. The latest model comes with slope, built-in magnet, and nice carry case for $120. It's a steal.

The caddytek from Costco is great. I've had it in the bag for years.

In terms of budget friendly, this is probably the best option.

They do go on sale on occasion, so if you don't need it right away, then just keep your eyes open for a sale.

The technology has been commoditized, you can get a $45 no name off Amazon that has pretty much the same accuracy as a $400 name brand.

Granted the build quality & optics are going to differ, but I’ve had one of the aforementioned cheap Amazon ones for about 3 years & it’s still going strong.

The Caddytek from Costco is also a great value👍

Shot Scope and Precision Pro.  I have had both.  They both worked great and matched the yardages of bigger brands.  Free batteries with the Precision Pro is a plus, but unfortunately it was stolen.  I have used the Shot Scope for a year and a half with no issues.

I'll be on my third season this year with the blue tees.  In it's  first two years it's been dropped, kicked, ran over with a cart and then some and it's still kicking.  None of this is a knock on the magnet, the magnet is great, I'm the problem.     Just some perspective tho, it's held up to my abuse.

I was also searching for a low priced range finder a couple of years ago and bought a Mileseey for $70. It’s rock solid and shoots the same distances as my buddy’s Nikon. Fixes on pins incredibly fast, and I don’t have the most steady hands. Even has slope adjustment and comes with a nice case and an extra battery. Given all of the inexpensive options, I wouldn’t spend more than $100 on a rangefinder.

Question for the folks with the cheaper models.  Do they have the vibrate feature? If yes, does it vibrate every time you get a yardage or only when locked on a flag?  That's one reason I've stuck with the Bushnell as the vibrate only comes on when you grab a flag and not a bunker or creek.

I tend to agree with previous statements about how the state of current technology has made most lasers give accurate readings. The extra cost tends to buy faster response, water resistance, and better optics.

Thanks.

I recently got a Shot Scope Pro LX for less than $100 on Amazon, and it has what they call "target lock" vibration technology. It also has a choice of red and black optics for different backgrounds.

Sounds like I’ve been wasting money on the expensive ones

There are advantages to the more expensive ones, but for most people/most of the time, they’re not necessary.  I have an X3 Pro but I think if I were buying one again, I’d buy a cheaper one.  Or I wouldn’t even buy one, as I don’t use mine that often.

I'd personally just recommend biting the bullet on a couple of rounds worth of golf and get a Bushnell.  They're the best, tried and true, you won't feel a need to replace a rangefinder near as often as a driver/putter/etc..

I bought the Red Tiger off of Amazon last year.

It has the flag target lock, slope switch, built in magnet, metal belt piece for the magnet to grab, case, etc.

I have checked the yardages against the yardages shown on my phone app, as well as the listed yardages on the fairways, and it appears to be accurate.

I also have not had to charge it since the initial charging upon receiving it, and I play 18 holes a week minimum.

You cannot beat it for the price.
