WARNING! PSA about Rogue ST max 24 Scam

Hello. Just a little PSA about the callaway rogue st max line this year.

 

the clubs that are sold as the rogue ST max 24 is a complete ripoff.
 

- no carbon on the sole 

- no back weight 

- fake carbon top

- fake tensei blue shaft.

 

DO NOT BUY!

 

also really crappy by callaway as this will screw up the second hand market.

Yeah that looks fake. Unless you bought it directly from Callaway you may have been bamboozled

It's not fake. Callaway came out with a "Rogue ST 24" line of woods. They are cheap versions for big box stores that look like the originals. This isn't something new for Callaway with the "Mavrik 22". Pretty sure TaylorMade did something like this too.

I think Callaway knows this line of clubs was not a great idea. Zero information on their website and the two Callaway Golf links I found generated 404 messages.

Taylormade did this as well with the SIM Max clubs.

 

Callaway also did it previously with the "Mavrik 22" line.

 

Yes, they cheapen a 3-year old club and sell it at big box stores.

Huh? This looks like new old stock club.  I think there are 3 newer (maybe 4?) Callaway drivers.  This one is from 2022?  I don't get the '24 in the name. It's not a new club, thus the lower cost.  But I assume it's not fake just an older model club that either Callaway or Carl's (or both) is/are selling at a lower price than original retail.

Yeah, that’s kind of gross.  I had no idea Callaway and TaylorMade have done this.

Yeah its pretty brutal actually.  Like the company selling a fake club under the same name and taking away all the high priced tech from the club.  No jail break, weighting, carbon, fast face, shaft etc.  All while making it look exactly the same as the previous model.

 

Almost got caught buying a 3 wood off ebay too.  They look so similar to the OG but guessing preform no where close.

Golftown here in Canada sells them, they are pretty much the only big golf retailer.  They are not even cheap.  Pretty shady business practice if you ask me.  Selling something based off a name and performance bench mark that is already in the market, strip all the good stuff and try to sell it for close to the same price.

One the biggest Scandinavian online retailer (Dormy) also stocks these - similar to the -S series of Cobra clubs. Sell them side by side as the latest releases and easyily tricks new golfers. Pretty cynical of them.

Hit the real one and this s*** side by side today, 6 mph in ballspeed difference @112 club. Spin was also about 1100 higher on average 2500 vs 3600. Reaaally nasty tactics from Cally.

 

basically gave me perfect 4 wood numbers….

I hate this.  I am not surprised whatsoever.  But I hate it.  I can ALMOST see how they can get around some of it.  The weight in the back, does have SOME weight to it lol so they can get around that maybe.  But, that carbon crown business, you're sure it's not carbon?  And how did you figure that out?  That would be egregious and very much false advertising considering it says otherwise on the listing.

It literally does not, it is just 2 grams of aluminum… and yes I am sure, I’m a club fitter and know what a carbon crown feels like.

I'm curious about the performance difference between this Rogue Max 24 and the original Rogue Max.  

 

Trying to play devil's advocate here, but what if the features on the original Rogue Max were all just marketing gimmicks?

 

 

- no carbon on the sole : What if there isn't much weight difference with carbon sole, and it was all just looks?

- no back weight  : The original Rogue Max didn't have the advertised 26g of tungsten cartridge to begin with

- fake carbon top : Similar to the first point, what if carbon didn't add any performance?  In fact some drivers(Titleist TSR, Ping) don't even have carbon.

- fake tensei blue shaft. : Everyone knows that factory drivers use made-for-shafts.  Again, not much difference between 24 Tensei Blue and the original made-for-blue.

I mean, the 2 grams, from a perspective that they call it a weight and it has weight to it.  It is shady as heck, but just trying to view this as if they were trying to defend their stance.  

The carbon though, that's pretty terrible and if that were the case, they should absolutely be roasted.  

 

Not the first go around with these.  As others have said, Mavrik 22, Sim Max, and maybe the SLDR-C? Can't remember if that was a mass release or retailer specific.  Other models have been done dirty the same way.  I never paid much attention to them in the past, just assumed they kept making a similar club.

And why did this get moved from the main Equipment forum???  This is not about a deal at all.  Its a warning for all to see.

 

Went back to get specs from the Callaway website and they totally took down the OG Rogue ST Max driver specs, left the Max LS, TD LS, and Max D.  Brutal!  Nothing says trustworthy company like deleting products from your site so people cant compare.

 

From what I can find these are the items below that made it a great driver, and are no longer included in a product they are selling under the same name.  No one can tell its a different club unless you have a trained eye.

 

OG Specs: Titanium body and face with carbon-fiber crown and sole pieces along with internal tungsten weight, Jailbreak speed frame, AI designed Flash Face SS22, Unibody Construction
