Maxfli irons?

Right, and could be a base but it’s like saying the 925Foeged from Mizuno are the same as the TM P790.

I mean the feel is different.  They have different lofts and they have different looks.  But other than that…..

In terms of materials though, the Maltby TS3.5’s are similar. Maltby may not have own the design end to end but they are manufacturing the Maxflis. Safe to say likely more of a collaboration.

My stance continues to be the DNA of the clubs is so similar, it’s not worth the upcharge Maxfli is demanding compared to even a custom built set of Maltby TS3’s.

No one has actually seen a 3.5 yet (in hand and not an online early release pic). I mean I know it will have ceramic in it too but it’s not even available.  May not be worth the up charge but I still stand I haven’t felt a major OEM yet in this category that feels like the XC2.  We can all discount the fact it says Maxfli.  I’m just saying there isn’t a Maltby, currently that is the same or really close to the XC2.  No more closer than a different OEM.  Yes I know Maltby is making them.

Oh and the TS3.5 are supposedly going to be a closer build to the XC3 than XC2. With a thicker top line and sole than the TS3.  So again, not much out there exactly like the XC2.

You know, the Maltby MPF numbers on those Maxfli irons are impressive.

Sorry, couldn’t resist. 😏

I almost worry the CG is too low. But based on the Maltby measurements I don’t think I’d even consider the XC3 because the XC2 should be plenty forgiving. Is the blade length really long? The C-DIM measure on these is 1.4+ and that’s notable. Maltby does love hockey stick blade lengths.

To me they’re totally worth the up charge. Not the same club as others, as you point out the look and design are unique, and even if was just looks, that matters a lot. I like the look of many Maltby irons (TS1-IM, PTM, TS4) but the TS3 never did it for me and neither does this XC3. The XC2 would be lauded as the best looking Maltby iron if it were one but that’s only because the Maxfli execs didn’t like the look of the XC prototypes and wanted changes.

Maltby is not manufacturing these heads. Maltby is not manufacturing any irons. They do not own a foundry, they have a business relationship with a company in Asia that manufactures heads for them and others. Of course Dick’s would work through a company it owns and use the same foundry.

The blade length is perfect. I would say it's a touch smaller in blade length and top line thickness than Srixon ZX7's. I was spinning the 7 iron in the high 6k's and launching them really high. I was surprised how high they spun for the loft being stronger.

Yes the XC2 do not look like an out of proportion iron.  If anything, I felt like the grooves didn’t go far enough across the face. Almost like the groove pattern was too narrow if that makes sense?  But hitting them felt so easy. For an iron of its size. It felt like a super game improvement. It looks somewhere slightly smaller than most players distance irons.  Of course again like I’ve said 1 million times the feel of them were incredible. That’s what I could not get past. And with them being lofted as much as they are, they flew forever.  I was getting 5500 to 5800 spin with a seven iron with a decent angle of 50°. That is plenty for me.

I actually talked them up so much to my buddy and through FaceTime showed him the numbers I was getting he bought a set site unscene. Due to deliver on June 6.

Sole for a game improvement is amazing.   This is compared to new P790IMG_3774.jpeg.56406951c802fe016c304e243d4ea89d.jpegIMG_3773.jpeg.d749cb15c5a27176b31b9a2c9de111e6.jpeg

My buddy’s came in yesterday and we are playing soon. Can’t wait to hear how the sole cuts thru the turf or see them in real grass.

Can confirm XC2’s have no problem getting through Turf. I hit them a few times and they feel absolutely fantastic. I think I’m gonna get these.

Hit both the XC2 and XC3 today and both felt great, but XC2 definitely won the beauty contest between the two.

Also anyone looking to buy a set, Dicks will occasionally run a 20% off promo with local sports organizations - Try googling "dicks 20% coupon <city>, <state>". There's one being run this weekend in my city. Most big golf brands are excluded on these promos, but Maxfli is not on their exclusion list and confirmed it to work on these today.

That is kind of what I’m waiting for. I know they’ve never sold irons before or owned brand irons, but everything else maxfli always has a sale. I kind of think these won’t be popular enough to not put them on sale at some point.

I still have some hesitancy with that brand being on my irons, I know I’m a snob. But I have been more impressed with these things than practically anything else I’ve hit. Now to be fair that’s mostly been in a simulator in store. But I’ve compared it to my own irons and other new irons for sale.   I’m still kind of holding out for those titleist 250 irons as those are simply amazing looking.  But after hitting my buddies, XC3 6 iron and his XC2 8 iron off of real grass yesterday it felt no different than hitting off turf in store. I was really wondering how the XC2 with that thin sole would react with the Turf and it was like it wasn’t even there. I am more impressed with these things every time I’m near them.

Looked at them yesterday and I agree they are quite nice, I am interested in the ceramic inside as I have been eye balling the proto concept C01 TB ic which I guess is somewhat the same idea. But the P.C's are a true blade or darn close.

I had a good day with the Mizuno 925 forged so I really have no business looking but well it is a hobby after all and looking is some of the fun to me.

If you buy Maxfli irons over ProtoCs you can lose my number!

Yep a pretty big step to fall off, but even as a fellow club snob lol I have played some real good golf with the Wilson V6 irons and Alpha irons, so kind of have a open mind. Been looking at the P.C.'s and Miura KM 700, just drawn to the strange shape and the claims of it being actually pretty easy to hit with the tech the master built into it.

You can tell me that I’m wrong. But you will 💯 own a set of the C01s in the very near future. And I promise not to say ‘I told ya so’ when it happens 😊

Ha ha, I won't disagree with you buddy. Sometime this week I will be over in Orlando for a meeting and will stop in to see Mike at Jessey James Golf, he has them in stock so I can actually hold one and check it out. Maybe even hit it.

But to be a proper fool the Miura is a better buy with the thought that I will eventually move on again. (6 months is about my limit anymore).

IC-601.....the worst iron ever made

CB-302

TC 201

I think I swore I would not own anymore except the baby blades, but the KM  700 are neat  in a funky sort of way. And the master designed them, maybe his last project.
