GT3 vs TSR3

I have both in 9*. I don't really have any launch monitor time but GT3 feels more like a true low spin driver because the CG shifted forward a bit compared to TSR3. Launch and spin are definitely down. I have about 5 rounds on the GT3 but it does seem like there is a little more spin consistency across the face but not a big difference. If you have a TSR3 and it fits well then I'd suggest either going up in loft or also trying GT2, which is closer to TSR3 than TSR2 was. If you are looking for lower launch and spin than TSR3 then GT3 is a solid option.

Has anyone gamed/tested both of these? If so, were the gains measurable? Some of YT reviews I’ve seen are showing little in the way of improvement beyond cosmetics.

I demoed the tsr3 and attempted to get fit and couldn’t make it work.  My miss is low and or heely and couldn’t manage the spin with any combination of tsr3.

gt3 is lower spin and more consistent soin across the face.  My heel miss doesn’t spike over 27-2800 and I’m getting really high smash strikes.  Too cold to play outdoors but on trackman indoors it’s the fastest ball speeds I’ve ever seen.

Tsr3 was ultra spinny off a heel miss for me while also dropping too much spin on an intentional toe ball draw. Launched very high in general as well. It was a catch and release within 3 rounds.

GT3 has been a MONSTER. Heel miss still carrying 280. I think I have the perfect head/shaft combo in the GT3. It’s going nowhere for years. The only driver I’ve hit in past 5 years to comfortably knock out the OG Sim.

Pretty much the same experience.  GT3 at 10 degrees is almost as long as my og sim at 8 degrees but way way more playable.

Looks like titleist created a monster.

Have to agree on GT3 being much more playable that TSR3. I just couldn't get into TSR3. The good hits were great but the drop off on bad ones just meant that it wasn't a viable option for me to game. Went to get fit for GT and thought I would end up in the 2 but 3 was the one. Good hits were good hits but the bad ones were way better than they should have been. Similar to others, I did go up in loft but well worth it.

Ball speed up across the face, spin consistency is off the charts especially that lower heel area doesn't spin up like TSR did.  They are lower spin and launch than comparable lofts, thus reason a lot of pros lofted up. I was a very long time "3" player but got fit into GT2 for that reason and it's a monster

Yup.  I have never touched a driver over 9 degrees of loft and even then most of the time I’ve lofted them down.

gt3 at 10 degrees doesn’t spin up and launches between 11-14 degrees depending on shot shape.

GT3 is a bit less forgiving due to the front CG but it has more distance potential in it.  I played TSR3 for 2 years and it was fantastic.  Played GT3 since it was released and I do have more issue trying to get it to draw (my preferred shot shape) than TSR3 but it is a longer driver overall.

Does GT3 feel neutral or fade bias?

In TSR3 and thought it was pretty neutral.  Then played around with an STZ230 and Triple diamond.  Those two made the TSR3 feel like it has a slight draw bias.  I draw the ball, so it doesn't bother me.

Anyone know if GT2 has a bias?

Mine feels and acts more fade bias...at least in comparison to my TSR3.  I can certainly turn it over and hit draws (which is what I'm always trying to do because I hate fades) but it doesn't seem to draw as easily for me as my TSR3 did.

  • 1 month later...

I played TSR3 in 9 degs a few years back but ended up going to Ping G430 LST 10.5 as it was waaay more foregiving and consistent for my swing.  My miss is a toe hit and that was deadly on a TSR3.  The Ping felt great and gave good results from that miss.  Comparing best shots between the 2 the TSR3 was definitely longer with better ball speeds but overall the PIng was just better for my game and I started hitting a lot more fairways

i was not really interested in trying the GT drivers when they came out but Titleist turned up at my club for a demo day so what the heck.  I got fitted onto a 10 day GT3 but, at the time, did not really love it orconsider it worth the change.  My son ended up with one and saw big improvements over the Ping.  Long story short after hitting his out on the course and moving the weights into the T1 position I felt this gave me the distance of the TSR3 and close to the  forgiveness of the Ping LST 430.  It also looks and feels much better than the Ping.  The ability to move the forward weight towards the toe (or heel) seems to me the biggest difference to the TSR3.

TMs tended to be neutral.

Srixons were fade biased.

This is interesting.  I found the gt3 and 2 to be about as nutreal as it gets.  Both at address and flight wise.

the gt4 sits noticeably closed at address and I had a tendency to hit it left as a righty

I love my TSR3.  Looks, feel, sound, distance potential - it checks a lot of boxes.  It's a monster when the swing is working.  Misshits are penalized by either excessive spin and this head does have the dreaded snap hook in it when hit high toe.  I've seen that GT3 seems to manage the spin drastically better low heel / low in general.  But I'm curious how well in manages the toe ball.

I'll wait until you can pick up a head only for sub $300 here in a few months and give it a try.

After many rounds with GT3 I have finally decided to go back to TSR3.  Sold the GT3.  TSR3 is just a better fit for me and is still the best driver head I’ve played to date.

Same. Although I just did pick up a G430 LST on ebay to see how it stacks up

I tried the GT3 and GT2 extensively. Several shafts, setups, etc. I just could not get a good thing going with either one. Went back to the TSR3 and all is right again. That being said, I have a fitting schedule for this Thursday. We'll see if something else can beat it!

I may be eating my words on the GT3.  I wasn't a believer.  But I have one now and after my round today, I am all in.  It does launch lower than the TSR3, but I think it's actually a touch more forgiving and faster.  Hard thing with Titleist drivers is I think they are very shaft/fit dependent, but once you get even close to being dialed in, absolute monsters.

I ended up walking away with my TSR3.. BUT, Ironically, the GT2 was the closest competitor. I tried all the brands/heads/combos. The GT3 was good but just wasn't any better than my TSR3 setup. My major issue during this fitting was that my spin was very low. With just about every head we tried, I was averaging around 1700-1900. We tried a few MAX heads that brought it to a better window but ballspeed was dropping a bit. The GT2 was the best combo of speed, forgiveness, and keeping my spin rates healthy (around 2300-2400). I know the fitter, so I am going back in a month or two to try again. I'm honestly happy with my TSR3, though. I didn't really have any "need" to switch to anything else. Was more of a scratch that I wanted to itch with all of the new offerings.

Interesting. I don't find the GT 3 to have any bias. Unless I want to play a certain shot.  Stupid thought by me.. I wonder if shaft has any influence?
