GT3 vs TSR3

I ended up walking away with my TSR3.. BUT, Ironically, the GT2 was the closest competitor. I tried all the brands/heads/combos. The GT3 was good but just wasn't any better than my TSR3 setup. My major issue during this fitting was that my spin was very low. With just about every head we tried, I was averaging around 1700-1900. We tried a few MAX heads that brought it to a better window but ballspeed was dropping a bit. The GT2 was the best combo of speed, forgiveness, and keeping my spin rates healthy (around 2300-2400). I know the fitter, so I am going back in a month or two to try again. I'm honestly happy with my TSR3, though. I didn't really have any "need" to switch to anything else. Was more of a scratch that I wanted to itch with all of the new offerings.

Appreciate the info.

Interesting that many are seeing dispersion gains with GT3, that may be a fitting improvement?

Cool Clubs has a great video comparing them, and GT3 has a noticeably lower CG and decreased MOI. It twists more, and is less forgiving on off center hits. GT3 at 10:00 (GT2 at 7:05, GT4 at 19:30)

Askgolfnut does incredible heat maps of performance across the driver face, and GT3 only attains maximum distance from a slightly toe side strike and it’s woefully unforgiving off a heel miss. Heatmap at 13:40

Suffice to say low heel is my miss and while TSR3 can spin up a little, dispersion is also unreal. I’ll take short in the fairway over the GT3’s heel duck hook (because the face shuts so fast). I’m surprised at folks saying they have a heel miss and GT3 is better, can y’all talk more about your experience?

Exactly why I moved on from GT3 and back to TSR3. Though I have a G430LST I’m waiting to hit when I get home

I’m playing a gt3 and it’s the best driver for a heel miss I’ve players. My heel shot now spins up to maybe 27-2800?  My good strikes are 2300-2500, and if I do clang one off the toe it’s stay above 2k which is nice.  I think moving to a 10 degree head and not swing up on the ball (goal is to stay under 2 aoa) has helped.

if you swing up 4 degrees or more I could see how gt3 wouldn’t be a great fit

For those that have moved from TSR3 to GT3, did you go up in loft? Have a TSR in 10 degree but unless I hit way up on the ball which doesn’t feel natural or comfortable, I struggle to get any height. Apex with all my irons is 99-110 feet, but with the TSR, typically around 75-90 feet on 10* to 11* of launch. Thinking of grabbing an 11* GT head to try out

Try the gt3 11.0 and the gt2 at 9 or 10.  It launches a little higher and might be a better fit if you can take a little more spin, which I’m assuming you can

Yeah typically my spin rate is low 2K and only gets up above 3K when I hit one low or heel side. Typically I can get the ball to run out to 280 or so but often it ends up 250-260 due to conditions

Same distance as TSi3 and it doesn't spin as much (I like the safety net of a little more spin at my speed) and I like the sound of TSi3 more than any of the last 4 titleist drivers. I just don't see the "performance" as an upgrade, more just a step to the side...for a good chunk of change

Ahh yeah I live at 2-5* typically though I am trying to get more neutral. Could see how GT3 could be a missile launcher for the neutral to negative AoA guys (a la OG Sim).

Do you know what your ball speed loss is on heel strikes vs center?

Also, any chance you tried the GT4 with the heavy weight back and can compare? Thanks!

Ball speed loss for me with gt3 is pretty minimal.  I’d say I’m within 5 mph unless it’s just a really bad strike.

i did hit the gt4, not sure of the weight settings but it was a quick no mostly because the gt3 was that good and the 4’s face looked closed to me

I agree on the sound preference of the TSi3, it was the best sounding of the 3 imo. Switched to the TSr3 after I scratched the s*** out of my TSi3 on accident. I’ve been hitting the TSr3 really good and Didn’t see enough of a performance increase with the GT3 to justify $600. Probably will do like I always do and wait a year when you can get a head only for $300

Spent some time on trackman Sunday with my TSR3. Was able to get it to a point of  265 carry, 289 total

on 155-156 ball speed, 14 launch, and 2300 spin. Only thought on the GT3 is to take an 11 degree head, open it to 10.25 with the thinking the open face should reduce my dreaded low draw and the face of the GT should help minimize any uptick in spin on the low heel, thoughts from anyone?

Typically driving it the best when I can aim up the left side of the fairway and just swing away knowing the ball will fade back to the middle or at worst, right edge of the fairway. At my worst when I get a bit on top of it and it’s low left city.

The tsi3 was the best driver I ever played.  Incredible feel off the face so damn good on the toe side, which is my impact pattern.  I just have such a hard time getting away from Titleist drivers.

The gt line looks so damn good and I love how they keep the same look from address but just keep refining it.  That being said, I just picked up a tsr3 10* and hoping to bring back the magic I had with the tsi3.  Will prob end up grabbing a gt at some point.  Just can’t get away from that classic look.

I came from the TSR and now play the GT3 in an 8 degree setup....in my experience with the GT and TSR, a heel strike is just about the worse place to strike these heads. Toe strikes seem to be okay, but the heel doesn't have much there. Just my opinion.

Smooth swing with good contact will send it really nice with both TSR3 and GT3, but I wouldn't call either one of them "forgiving" compared to Ping, Callaway, etc. I think of the TSR3 and GT3s as a players club

I hear that the GT is less spiny and had a different sound. I’m hanging with TSI3 and just working with shafts.

FYI… with use, the faces actually become hotter. So I’ve been told by some “people”.

Just snagged the GT3 3Hy (lofted to 18°) because it gapped so well between my 4i and 3W. Couldn’t be happier with that purchase, but curious how the TSR3 and GT3 3W and D compares to each other. I’m planning to get fit for these two clubs later this year and will report back on what I see and feel with the TSR and GT.

So went through some testing here the last week between a TSR3 10* and GT3 11* (dynamic loft at delivery is nearly identical). Best to best hits, there isn’t much difference in them. What I have noticed in the few range sessions and on getting it outside today, my bad strikes seem to be a bit better with GT. Slightly lower spin and more ball speed. Not going to make a bad strike perform 100% like a center strike but there is some improvement. Had one today on #9 that I struck way low on the face that I still got out there to 273 which comparable strikes with TSR would have been in the mid 260s.

Other biggest difference is the sound. I guess I didn’t notice it much inside but outside it’s more a muted thwack vs a tin pop of the TSR

Lots of information here.  I found the GT3 to be an improvement over the TSR3 in my driver.  And of course, the GT3 fairway easily took down my old 915Fd.  So the top four slots in my bag now solidly belong to Titleist GT3’s and TSR3’s.

I was recently fit for GT3. I went in wanting the Elyte TD, but the GT3 was best for me. Played the Paradym TD and Tsi3 before it. The Tsi3 sounds and feels better, but GT3 is better across the face. I stayed at 9˚. I needed the lower launch as the 9˚ in the Tsi3 and TD was a little high. I am getting a similar carry and now more rollout with the Diamana WB and GT3.

The fairways are also much improved. Especially the shape of the GT2. I have the GT3 3w, but the TSR2 previously and never really liked the shape.

Titleist GT3 experience:

I went in the other day to test the new Callaway Triple Diamond MAX model driver - I was personally having an off day with driver in the LM.  I started to work through my personal issues but I was not finding the perfect shaft in the Callaway fitting cart to get the best results.  And both the Elyte TD and TD max were blocking right due to how the face sat open.

I asked my fitter buddy to get me a Qi35 LS with Ventus Blue + to compare (can't look at the core).  LS was erratic.  Hit the PING G440LS which I play now and it was very straight., but I'm not reaching those places on the golf course that I used to.  (a couple bunkers I typically carry)

THEN I had him build me a Titleist GT3 with a basic HZRDUS 5g and the ball speed jumped UP by a significant margin over EVERYTHING else.  I'm talking 3mph.  And It wasn't even a fitting issue - the ball speed was faster than every other driver in the building.  I popped in a Tour AD-UB blue to  compare and the results stayed the same - faster ball speed than anything else in the building.

I need to go back and compare the GT3 to the GT2, but came away impressed.

The driver shootout by that other website whose initials are MGS is completely bogus.  They rank the GT2 high but say it's not as forgiving and doesn't have the same tight dispersion as the Elyte TD.  I can say right now that's total BS because the GT3 is tighter than the TD by a significant margin.  (not to mention you have to admit you play a callaway product).

Looking forward to revisiting the Titelist.

Just to add my anecdotal experience, I've been playing the TSR3 for about a year and half. I demoed the GT3 with my TSR shaft (GD AD-UB) and l, if anything, it was marginally worse. A couple mph less ball speed. Granted I wasn't fit to a shaft for the GT but I was fit into the UB for the TSR so I don't think the shaft would be that big of a difference.

That's just my own experience, but it did save me from feeling compelled to drop $700 on a new driver.
