Ray Cook (SA era)

Ben Hogan 1415, 1420, and 1425 (DBRC) with the t-shaped grooves.  I love the sound the 1415 makes when it strikes the ball.

Just checked the Hogan putter portion - seems I have a 1410, a 1420 & three 1425's. The 1410 is similar to your 1415 but does not have the center groove & is brass.

I have tons of older ray cook putters at my shop if anyone is looking for a specific model for their collection, PM me.

thanks....I think there were 6 (or perhaps 9) designs Ray Cook made for Hogan. I have 3.
Are the "older ray cook putters" from the San Antonio era or are there the Gen2/3 logos mixed in?

In my Ray Cook stash, there are a number of the same designs...needs culling. Come to think on it, I probably have more Otey Crisman putters than I have single design Ray Cook (SA)

Quite a few are SA.  I'll take pics this weekend.

cool....I have one like that also - however, the top of mine is different on the non-anodized putter has 2 front to back incisions, one each end of incision.
Does yours have those same two?
Makes me wonder what the "T" "B" means on the anodized one?

Have had an MG-1 putter for a while, but recently saw on Ebay that there was also an MG-2 and a second version of the MG-1.   I guess the smaller lettering and locations of the wording on the one version of the MG-1 suggests it is the older of the two versions.  Just happy to have picked up a couple more Ray Cooks.

The MG-1s are to the left.

Interesting - 2 of the ones you just got have "patented", not "pat pend" - the MG-1 w/the

"pat pend" would be the earlier. I have a MG-1 like your's.

You, awhile back, wondered why he never patented his clubs....thanks to your finding those patents, I noticed that patents have an expiration date - most had 14 years. I also noticed that there was that "trademark" R thingie after his name...it looks as if he trademarked the "Ray Cook SA Texas" as a trademark, which doesn't have an expiration date (?) or perhaps lasts longer. So the Gen2 & Gen3 (is there a Gen4?) each have that "R" to protect their logos.

Just went and looked at my Ray Cook stash - there are 3 putters (2 are mallets, No9 and No92, & one is a bullseye style, with an anodized (?) shaft) that have impressed in them "American Cancer Society Invitational San Antonio" - the mallets are dated 1976 & the other is 1977.

"No9 and No92" -- do you mean those are the model names stamped on the putters?

yes...they look to be the same design & since it was a charity tournment in San Antonio, perhas  He made a limited number of(the top shows a medallion of the American Cancer Society.

I'll get pics up in here tomorrow hopefully.

@Hillandale1977 here are the pcs of the 3 American Cancer Society Invitational Ray Cook putters....the first pictures include the M-1 mallet, to show they are similar...the single mallet at the end is the M-1, for some reason the admin controls won't let me download the pictures showing the American Cancer Society medallion - stupid & silly....just picture the mediallion in the center.

the bullseye style putter  has the ACS Invitational stamping & date. "Ray Cook" is on the sole...is it a bronze putter.

No model numbers are declared, only the "no9" & "no29" are seen. I wondering if Ray Cook didn't donate 100 clubs to raise $ for the ACS.

It looks like the earliest that "Ray Cook" was registered as a trademark was in 1969.   The post-San Antonio company renewed it in 1989.  These are two pages from the same document from the USPTO website:

That's an interesting handwritten note on the second page.

Ray Cook Putters sued C&C CoRay in USDC in San Antonio in the early 1970s and C&C CoRay responded with a trademark action againt Ray Cook.  I haven't been able to get copies of the case file from the National Archives (if that is where the file is) yet but I'm curious about what that lawsuit was all about.

Is the shaft on the Bullseye style one something other than steel?

It looks anodized - a yellowish/greenish, there are wavey lines going down the shaft (kinda like the red shaft I posted)
If there was a law suit filed it would be in the US District Court in San Antonio files somewhere, perhaps more than a National Archive.

I'm also wondering if the suits were about the Logo, more than the name....his name is his logo. When he sold the company, seems he gave the right to use his name - not the "logo" - cuz both Gen2 & Gen3 Ray Cooks have totally different logo's...

Acquired an M1-SP.  Wonder if the "SP" means something like "Special" or "Special Product."   Maybe it is a version of the M1-S because it is roughly the same size and shape of the M1-S but lacks the Vi-Bra-Groov technology of the floating face/soundslot in sole, and has two shallow alignment grooves instead of the deeper, golf ball width-grooves of other Vi-Bra-Groov putters.

I don't know....All the Ray Cook (SA)mallets I have, contain the "vibe groove" parallel to the face. The only mallet non (SA) are #Gen & no 'vibe' groove. I don't have a scale to be able to measure weight in grams (only a bathroom scale 😂 which doesn't help at all w/weighing club heads).
