Low Hand Putting Yips - Anyone putt the other way to combat them?

This just means you haven't had a well fit armlock putter.  Properly fit you should be able to set up with an armlock putter, maintain your posture and have someone pull out the armlock putter and put a conventional length putter in its place with no adjustments.

 

I don't have the yips per se, but I do not have a steady hand in part to long periods of prednisone as a teenager. A couple things I've found helpful to help quiet the hands and reduce the effects of my shakes.  The first was armlock, doing that absolutely shored up my stroke and while I have gone away from it, I do utilize it as a training aid when needed. 

 

The second is the "butterfly grip" which was a trendy social media reel a couple years ago. Essentially instead of interlocking my pointer on my left hand between the ring and pinky of my right, I interlock the left pointer between my ring and middle fingers on my right hand.  This has the effect of leveling my shoulders some, which gives some of the left hand low benefits, but doesn't take away all my touch which personally is driven by my right side and in full left hand low gets too passive and speed suffers.

 

The third is counterbalancing my putters.  Every putter I use goes through the same process.  I start by adding lead tape as needed to the cavity to tune the sound of the putter, inducing the feel I want.  Then I take my grip of choice that has been cut down the seam and I put that on the shaft with a little tape to make sure it holds reasonably still.  Then I use the white paper test to check my takeaway, adding coins to the butt of the grip via tape until the toe of my putter can be taken straight back until the arc of the stroke pulls it to the inside of the paper without needing manipulation.  Then it's a simple matter of weighing the grip and coins and replicating that with a butt weight or lead tape under the grip.  In the Ping PLD I just did this to a couple days ago this ended up being 3 strips of lead tape in the cavity, and 22g of back weight under my grip of choice (GP Reverse Taper Large Pistol).
