It's really interesting as you can get really into the weeds with the information,  like wrist hinge, release, how many G forces you apply to the club,  tempo..etc.       Wilson has created an algorithm that takes all that information in and spits out a customized recommendation.

I found this to be a great video covering the fitting process,  and you get to see the legend that is Ed.

We have more to come on this, but we touched on it last year as well at our member trip and perhaps some of the members from that trip can speak on it as well. It's pretty impressive, and at times they can find accurate fittings with three swings.

We wrote about it here, and here is the video from last year's trip at Pinehurst.

Geez, the pressure to remember something from a whirlwind couple days almost a year ago. Give the old guy a break!🙄

That said…interestingly enough as I recall this was only used for iron/shaft fitting.  Now I’m wondering if they will also do hybrid fairway and driver fittings with it.

Really simple process…(to the best of my recollection)there is a test club with sensors that measures damn near everything as @ColdOkieGolf mentioned above.  After just 3-5 swings it suggests best fit iron head and 3-5 shafts. You then switch to the more traditional fitting club that we are used to. IIRC these heads had sensors on them as well. From there it becomes a more traditional fitting.  Best thing about this is it is not as dependent on many multiples of swings.

I will let the more recent trip participants clear up additions and any mistakes I made.

Thinking back to my fitting with it last year... either my swing is a unicorn (aka crap) or something didn't work right. I was swinging it 88-90 MPH and it suggested I go with a graphite (I think Recoil) 90S.

I loved seeing all the characteristics of my swing, but the suggestions it gave us were wildly wrong for my swing speed. My fitter tossed me into KBS Tour and Tour Lite, but none performed or felt better than my Rifle 6.0s.

Dispersion and spin were better with the DPF vs my Apex 19s with the same shafts.

Speed is only one component though if you think about it.  Transition speed, shaft load, swing plane, release, etc all of that needs to be taken into account.  Don't get me wrong, I agree Recoil 90s would seem like an odd selection based on what you're currently using and swing speed and I am not trying to imply that it was a definitive best option.  You see if in a lot of aspects of life now, but time and time again, it gets proven that AI cannot fully replace a human.

Have any other members been looking at or tried out any of Wilson's irons recently?

As soon as I can find a demo day in my area.  Not easy to find Wilson in stock around me.  Very interesting in the Staff blades.  Haven't games Wilson since high school in the early 90s.  Hope they make their way back to those days.  Drivers are getting good reviews.  Thanks for doing this promo

No hosels were harmed in the filming of this content...

I was worried when I saw the cameras on me during the iron fitting, I won't lie haha.  Thankfully, there were no shanks and I was able to block the cameras out once Ed got into the Ai Fit and I started hitting balls.  He did an amazing job of being engaging and keeping me focused on the task at hand on an absolutely crazy day!

I realize it's only simulator golf and all.  But, I did have a pretty amazing round last night at league.  The MB's are pure as can be still.  But I am really starting to appreciate the driver even more.  Having used the Qi10, Qi35, Qi35 LS, GT3 (my buddy's), and the GT2 (also my buddy's), I can honestly say that I much prefer the Dynapwr LS behind the ball than any of those.  The deep face is reminiscent of some of my favorite drivers from the past.  Not something you see often these days.

I am ready for some real golf if the weather would cooperate!! Had a few days that were really warm a couple of weeks ago.  But, it's been a mixed bag of cool temps and snow here and there.  Nothing that sticks, but it hasn't warmed up enough consistently to get these courses open.  Don't know if I have ever been so antsy for the season to begin.

It looks like the algo prioritizes shafts that are included with their fitting cart? Could be a factor.

Obviously the specific head used in the AI fitting would contribute to how a specific shaft responds. Not sure whether a player could just take that shaft recommendation and throw it into any other head and expect a magical fit.

Yeah - as far as I know, and what Ed has mentioned,  is that the algo prioritizes the stock shafts or what is selected in the fitting carts first.  it also gives you both a steel and a graphite option. As you scroll down though, it gives a number of suggestions for other shafts.   Like for my numbers the first recommendation was that X100 Mids.  That's the stock shaft and it so happens to be a matchup for my numbers.   But it also included things like the standard X100 and the Project X 6.5.

It mostly says "based on the numbers, these shafts would be in your range" then it comes down more to individual feel and how things like weight and perceived stiffness would change your release/launch conditions/ comfort.

Unless you specified that you wanted graphite,  I have a hard time believing that the system defaulted to that option as it seems to always go with steel as the number one and a graphite as a secondary option.

I think you're right in regards to the recommendations being based on their current shaft choices.

The sensor is not basing anything off of the ball flight or shot quality.  I cannot remember all of the measurements.  But, things like tempo, force, speed, swing plane, etc are all used to output the recommendations.  Launching it too low or high with low spin or high spin aren't taken into account.  As long as you make decent contact it's going to do it's thing.  So, really the head doesn't mean much as long as the head weight is in the same ballpark as the other irons in their catalog. I am sure there are outliers that would throw the system off like very slow or very fast swings.

The Ai Fit uses a Dynapwr Forged head (I am pretty sure) and recommended the Staff CB or MB w/X100, +.5", 2° flat.  My final fit was into the MB using almost all of those recommendations.  Only difference was length went back to standard after a couple of swing.  The MB is a pretty big departure from the Dynapwr Forged and almost every recommendation held true.

Played another round yesterday with my father, course played short, so didnt hit the irons but a few times but the wedges performed great. The 16.5 fairway is my favorite club right now. There was a short par 4, 260 yards, and a 5 some in front of us, playing slow,  so we hit a few balls. I hit 3 balls, one with my mini, one with my fathers new (to him) stealth 2 16.5, and my Dynapower 16.5.

The mini driver went high cut, ended up right about 25 yards and green high. The stealth 2 was very high, straight, But like 30 yards short. The Dynapower was mid trajectory, straight and about 20 feet from the hole. Its got such a good launch and spin window.  Im really starting to edge on kicking the mini out of the bag and going Dynapower 13.5 and 16.5.

Just got mine in that I ordered partly because of the brand awareness I got from this thread. Hit them yesterday outdoors for the first time and absolutely love them. I’m surprised at how well I hit the 4 and 5 iron in the MB too. Very happy so far! So happy that I ordered wedges and 3 dozen balls from Wilson as well.

I haven't played a set of MB's for quite a few years.  I was shocked at how easy these are to hit.  I know that MB's aren't for everyone.  But I do think they get more of a bad rap than they deserve.  So far, I have found them to have very similar distances to the CB's I have recently played on mishits.  My prevalent miss being towards the toe, I am still getting very similar speed and distance.

Plus, they look so clean and feel sooooo pure.  Congrats on the new sticks.  I think you're going to find the wedges to be pretty great as well.

Thank you! My miss is also toe side (both on irons and with the driver) so I'm glad to hear these are stable (enough) out there. Plus that toe side support with the irons was an attractive feature as well. I'm anxious to see how the HT 60 performs for me. I have a few friends who swear by that "style" of wedge but I've never made the jump. No better time than now!

Now - about those Carbon fairway woods............... 😄

Haha, slowly taking over the bag.

I have tried a few of the high toe designs through the years and they're not for me and what I am looking for in a LW.  But, around the green, they're so easy to use when you need to get the ball up in the air.

I have that toe miss across the bag really.  So, any club that I can get my hands on that doesn't want to turn over super hard with that miss is invaluable.  Irons aren't an issue, and I am finding the driver to really respond well to it also.  The Dynapwr LS, on paper, would sound like it wouldn't be the best choice for that.  And, maybe compared to the others in the lineup, it's not.  But it is still holding up really well on the toe miss compared to a lot of others on the market.  There is a good amount of bulge and roll on it.  So, that hard left hook turns into more of a push draw and having the spin not plummet means it's going to have a really good chance of staying in play, if not just on the left side of the fairway.

I agree, on both counts (especially the latter).

I rather like how Wilson have been offering options that relate to their roots, for the last 10 years or so.  Wilson Staff Blades were *the* iron for a rather long time.
