Yes but when i set the face at square to my target (lightly holding with my right hand) and then grip the club with my left, the left hand gets "strong". Maybe I should be doing what Scottie and Adam Scott do and grip it with both hands (try not to regrip at all) and then set the club down at square to target.

Like @iacas suggested, the game changer for me with sorting my grip was to take the grip with the club up and out in front of me. If your grip appears to be too strong then you need to recalibrate. As long as your left thumb is to the right of the grip so it can support the club at the top you can move it a little so it's not overly strong.

What size glove do you wear?

If I wear a glove it’s a Cadet Small, which is why I commented small hands.

Could try a moulded trainer grip on, say, a spare 7 or 8 iron...ala Scottie Scheffler, it could help.

Yeah thinking I’ll do that. Could identify if there is a mobility issue in one of the hands or wrists with me being locked into the moulded grip or if I can work through it. Thanks

Small hands are not why.

I'm not a huge fan of the molded grip, but they're not terrible. I feel they still often angle the fingers a bit too much.

That is slightly exaggerated, but not much.

That video is super helpful as it was the first time I could get it across all of the fingers with the shaft pointing up.

Now I see why Scottie does it with the shaft pointing up as well when he grips it......thank you!!!!!!

Feels like the rest of the hand is on top of the shaft and not over to the right as well so not strong.

Success!!!!

First day of hitting balls with the new grip. Feel like some progress on the left hand with the grip being in the fingers, but still very hard to keep the right hand fully on the grip.

I notice that my radial deviation on the right hand is really poor compared to my left hand. I think that could be part of the issue when trying to hinge the right wrist.

The only quick grip tip that's ever worked immediately when I show people is to grip the club when it's up in the air walking into the shot as part of their pre-shot routine. NEVER grip the club when it's soled on the ground. It's extremely difficult to get a good grip. What it does is prevents the grip from slipping in the lead hand and makes the wrist hinge much easier. The reaction is usually that they feel more 'snap' through the ball. The problem is when I see them again, they abandoned it  and revert to old ways. Pisses me off.

That’s what I was doing today, putting my hands on the grip when the shaft was vertical and then I walked into the shot. Will keep doing it until it feels comfortable to do it and the hands are consistently on the grip in the same place each time.

It does mean my body alignment routine to the target line now needs some modification.

I can assure you I was gripping it across the back side of the first knuckle on each finger from the palm. I even tried to make sure in the pinky finger it was further away from the palm. It felt really weird and led to some very blocked right shots with driver.

Were you doing that, this red line would be much shorter:

The knuckles would be closer to parallel to the shaft. The club wouldn't be as close to your watch.

P.S. I'm talking about your left hand. I assume that you are, too, but just in case…

It feels weird because you’re used to doing it wrong, you see shots like that because you’re body is still swinging like it normally does but with a different grip.

Theres a reason for doing slower and shorter swings when making a change. You have to teach the mind what to do

I understand that and I know this will take time and I will keep at it. I know how to make swing changes through many slow rehearsals (without hitting a ball) versus raking golf balls.

My club head path shifted from about 1* to 2* in to out to 0 to 1* out to in at times, maybe because the grip feel was different, maybe because the wrist hinge was different or maybe something else not connected to the grip change at all.

I am fortunate that I can get to the range nearly every day of the week.

So from trying to get to that position on the handle tonight, when I grip it I have to keep all of my palm off the grip. That seems to be the only way it can happen. So that increases pressure into my left thumb on the grip. None of the palm can even rest on the grip.  AND I need to get my right wrist to radially deviate as much as it can at left arm parallel.

When you grip it correctly you can hit the correct wrist set at P3--lead arm parallel to the ground--readily even in slow motion swings. If your grip isn't allowing you to do it when going slowly then there's something not letting your lead wrist hinge correctly. I'd guess the issue is visible when taking your grip so may want to post a vid of you doing that.

When the grip is off no amount of compensation is going to hold up on every swing so the sooner you fix your grip the better.

It’s more than likely your body reacting to where the clubhead is as you try to work thru the change.

This is something that I've struggled with as I've gotten older and lost strength in my hands as I've found it much more difficult to maintain a good grip throughout the swing.

The last three fingers of the left hand just don't want to maintain the grip pressure at address and the grip gets loose and sloppy at the top resulting in the dreaded wear spot on the bottom of my glove.

Hate it.

What amazes me is that you’ve stated in another thread that your cap hovers between scratch and +2 with that grip.

Yep I guess I can get the club head back on the ball fairly square. My external focus must be good 😮

Not that it technically means anything, but you can see my index on USGA and the scores I post, Ray Jackson Texas, Lantana.

Versus a “pro” I I lose about 1 stroke driving (mainly due to average distance) and 1 stroke approach, am neutral inside 100yds and gain about 1 stroke putting. The reason I started the thread was to try and solve a low left miss with driver, which it has. Right now I find I need to work harder to square the face up but the left miss seems to be less likely.

My grip strength is poor, pretty sure that is part of my swing speed limitation. Squat/Bench and pull strength is good. Vertical is bad and grip strength woeful...........again another story.

Face-on?

One of the things about GEARS is that is great is that you literally have every angle including from below and above and 3 feet in front of the ball if you’d like.

Here we need at least the two standard ones.

This wasn’t my best swing, and you can’t see very well where the grip is in the left hand. New irons too, first swing with P-7CB with the DG Mid 115s.

Feel like I am doing better with the wrists not collapsing/over hinge at the top. But the left wrist is still too hinged at left arm parallel and right wrist not enough.

With this new grip the only club I am struggling with is driver, now it’s big fades when before it was straight/slight draw.

Could you post a video of you doing these two things:

  1. Grip a wooden yardstick or ruler. Or, if you don't have a wooden one, a metal or plastic one should work.
  2. Grip the shaft just above the hosel like you're going to hit the ball with the grip end. Leave a couple of inches between your left hand and the actual clubhead. Record a medium speed swing swinging the grip end (don't hit anything).

Odds are those will be better grips than what you're showing in the last video there.
