Srixon ZX Utility 23*

then my irons start with Srixon ZX5 5i which is 24* I believe. (I have a ZX5/7 combo iron set)

 

I want a 5w or 7w but I'm guessing to do so, i need to kick my 23* and 5i out of the bag. or keep the 5i for different shots. I don't mind my hybrid as i hit it well.

How does a 7w work as a replacement for a 4h, especially when it comes to hitting it from light rough?  I generally will not try to use a hybrid/wood from the rough unless I have a lie where the ball is sitting up.

Use my 7W to hit out of rough regularly.  The shape of the head “parts” the grass.  
Now if your talking US open rough, that’s different…..

Srixon new ZXi.

 

Mess with with one if you can first.  The adapter is backwards from most.  It starts in most upright setting and goes flatter.  Has a separate flat setting as well.  

 

It looks like lofting up still closes the face but it's counteracted by getting flatter....

Sub70 I’m pretty sure has one that is not draw biased.

That club is my favorite club. I had the 5HL and sold it to a friend. My best shot ever was a 200 yard 5 wood to within 2 feet. That may never happen again but it did happen once! Now I’m on the lookout for another 5HL.

As a natural drawer of the ball, I stay away from anything that looks too closed or draw bias when it comes to woods. I have a Taylormade Qi10 7 wood that does not look closed at all and is not draw bias as far as I can tell. In fact, I am able to cut it fairly easy.

How do yalls shafts weights and launch compare to your 3 and 5 woods for those that have been fitted for a 7 wood?

If you're running it 1/2" shorter than a 5 wood, maybe 5gr more?  Could probably just take your 5w shaft and add some lead tape to it.  

 

If you're gonna chop a bunch like some of the tour dudes, then probably 10g over a 5 wood.

Thanks! I just ordered a used PXG black ops 7 wood off of eBay. The hosel adjustability plus the ability to move the head weights sealed the deal for me. I’ve got a PXG 3 wood that’s been in the bag for three years.

I got one last spring and having never really tried one before I wasn’t sure what to expect. It turned into my favorite club during the season. It amazes me how high I can hit it compared to my hybrid. I worry about it a bit into a good head wind but planning on going up a weight class(75g - 85) with my Aldila NV green to see if that helps.  Its also great from very bad lies and thick rough. I can hit it off a tee pretty easily as well. Love the deep face on it and all the adjustability. I have it turned down to 19.5* in the flat(pxg) setting. Two 7.5s up front with a 2.5g in the back.
Bet you will really like it. Enjoy!

I've asked this elsewhere, but wanted to get data points from this crowd - what's a 20 deg fairway? A 7 wood? A 5 wood?

 

Seems like 5Ws are mainly 18 deg and 7Ws are mainly 21 deg?

 

My stock TSR1 FW is 20 deg and the shaft length is more typical of a 7W, I think, but the head size is more like a 5W, owing to the fact that it's a TSR1.

A typical 5wd is 17.5 to 18 degrees and a 7wd is 21 degrees.  Some OEM's make a Heavenwood which is a 20 deg club, has a little bigger head then a 7wd and a longer shaft like a 3wd shaft.

Tsr1 lofts are higher. You have a tsr1 5w. If you bought it used, who knows what was done with or to the shaft. 
 

Back on topic. The 7w is magic.
