I'm honestly surprised at how good a 7 wood feels. I always hated 3 woods and finally only liked fairway woods after trying a 5 wood and a 4 wood. Only had the Callaway X2Hot Pro 4 Wood in the bag for a few years but after getting fit for new irons, I was retooling the bag and decided to test a 7 wood and my god, at the range it feels great. I got a used 915F 7 wood and the seller had an X-stiff Project X shaft in it but got a Tensei Blue to throw in and it's point and shoot. It feels like cheating. Was putting shot after shot at the range right at the flag that was 190 out into the wind. Would be expecting it to be around 205 or so but having that accuracy, high launch, and carry was magical. 200 would've been hoping for a good shot with a hybrid or rolling a utility iron up. The 7 wood just carried with a nice high ball flight.

Swapped a G440 7w (Denali Red 70) for a GT2 7w (Denali Red 60) and it's immense.

So easy to hit, around 190-205y.

Such a great club for a low handicap that isn't solid with long irons.

Why'd you not get along with the G440? I love the G440 7W. High, long, forgiving, and easy to work.

What gets me is how few 7w you seen in bags.

I'm a fairly low handicap and play with a real mix from Scratch to 20 and no-one runs a 7w, even the guys that hit it short.

Mine is point and shoot from 200y. No-way would I get the distance and flight from a long iron, not in a million years.

Yeah I hadn't really heard of anyone playing them and never even considered them. Thought they were just a thing of the past with hybrids becoming more prevalent. My bag used to have a 4W (16.5), 3 Utility Iron (19), Hybrid (21), and 4 Iron (23). I got fit for G440 irons and took the opportunity to redo the top of my bag since the 5i is 24 and the UW is 47 (previously ran 4i at 24 to PW at 45) which then made my 50/54/58 wedge setup feel too close to the 47. So the 50/54 became a 52 and then opened up some space to fool around with the 7W.

My Ping G430 Max 7 wood came with a stock regular Ping shaft.  I was hitting it too high and pulling it, so I replaced the shaft with a Tensei Pro White 70 S and butt trimmed it to size.  It was a spare driver shaft.  The combo performs well, very stable and accurate.  The ball flight is slightly lower, however I play in a lot of wind at times.

I was fit to GT2 7w turned down to 20.25 with 1k Black 85-S and +6 weight.  I hit it well at fitting and it went the right number but I really didn’t care for the feel.  I play a g430 3w with Tour Black 75-S that I really like.  I’m hoping to hit the g440 7w this weekend but really wish the Tour Black came in an 85 model for FW’s.  Open to suggestions if anyone has any?

Anybody play a 7 wood and 4 iron? Have an about 30 yard gap between 7w and 5i. Play zx7 5i at 25*

Close. I'm playing a Ping 430 7W and then a 23 degree hybrid. The hybrid has largely replaced the 4 and 5 irons for me (I'm pushing 58). That Ping hybrid is so much easier to hit, and to hit high. Plus I can choke down an inch or so and take a regular swing to get a standard 5 iron distance but with much less effort and more forgiveness.

I love the Ping 7W for long approaches as I'm aging but I don't find it as versatile. For example, I find hitting a lower trajectory or a fade very difficult with the 7W. That hybrid is much more useful on less than standard distance shots. For me, it's easier to hit high than a long iron, easier to hit low than a 7W/9W, better for punching out under tree branches (a shot I've always needed). I resisted going to a hybrid for a long, long time but age forced it and now I wish I made that move 15 years ago. Might be worth a try.

I went 7w to 5H to try and close that gap a bit, dropping the 5i altogether

I'm also loving my GT2 7w, best club in my bag and not even close. And like other said, I dont see anyone else at my club running 7w's, at least not any that Ive played with yet. And a couple of them have hit mine, loved it and stated how dangerous theyd be with it yet never trunked one. I dont get it.

the thing with 7 woods is the stock shaft offerings don't suit high swing speed players. highest weight is usually 75g, you have to get an upcharge shaft.

100% true. I'm average SS in the 90-100ish range so the stock GT2 shaft has worked very well. I'm not positive but it appears to be a much better stock option then the Ai Smoke mini had in it.

Yeah I just ordered a g440 7 wood and find this so frustrating. It seems like upcharge offerings are even more expensive now too.

luckily I found a qi10 with a ventus 8x and its worked well so far. I did try the g440 with tour black and it just didn't work.
