@kaschreiber what number were you in the queue?

I know everyone has their own opinions on remote work but making resort reservations is the perfect type of work to do off site. Shocking if there really are only 2 people handling reservations.

I wasn't in the queue that I was aware of. We're a group of 16, so we were able to go through group reservations.

Obviously anyone could be trained up, but seems like you need at least a decent understanding of golf in general and the resort set up in particular.

Sand Valley if anyone’s listening - I’d do the job for free for a couple days if you gave me priority booking in return 😭

Just got called, and started at 434. Still enough weekday availability in June, and July, even the July 4th weekend was available. August was tight. Tee times were no issues at all. Just an fyi.

Last year July 4th was one of the last dates to fill out of the whole summer.

Guessing “golf trip with the guys” is a very tough sell on a traditionally family-centric holiday

@birdiestobogeys similar boat, although fortunately the only thing off for us was no replay rounds booked for two days (I could have been more clear in my email, in hindsight). Got a call from Reservations this morning and we were able to get things squared away with a few minor things that aren't ideal, but otherwise what we had hoped for. For what it's worth, the girl I talked to was great and said right now there are only two people handling reservations, so think they're definitely over their head but doing their best.

Glad you were able to get it figured out. I’m going on 3 days with no response.

Well - I may have spoken too soon. We got it figured out on the phone, but almost two full working days later and no updated contract sent my way. I've left a couple messages and emails. I'm not in a huge rush, but given the 7 day window to sign the contract / send deposits, I'm hoping we don't have any issues. I'll get a little more dilligent come next week if I don't see anythign come through. Good luck on your end.

Maybe it’s too soon to give a complete opinion on this virtual queue system as I have yet to get to the front, but compared to the Bandon lottery model, I think I prefer the virtual queue.

Our group was a long term Bandon crew, having gone every year since 2016, and the new lottery this year was a bust, and we got shut out.  It was tough not having any control or idea if our trip would even happen.

The virtual queue system gives me a sense that there is still hope that once I get to the front I might be able to find something that is going to work. Compared to Bandon where I wasn’t given that chance. Of course I say this thinking that my spot in line isn’t that far in the back.

I’m curious what would happen if you book for 16 in the early booking window and then drastically reduce numbers. The 90 day cancellation policy is quite generous.

I feel like they would close that loophole pretty quickly if that started happening. However, might force them to make groups register the same as everyone else.

I was 469 in the queue when the initial email went out… finally got called Saturday morning. Twosome mind you, not a single weekend available she said for June-august. Unreal. Nothing like a week day golf trip 😕 the lady told me all the reservations are being booked by large groups.

I was looking through our contract with 16. There is a provision in there that states if the group size becomes less than 16 they reserve the right to still charge us for that unused lodging / golf. Not sure how often, if at all, that gets enforced, but they have some recourse.

I think you wouldn't need to cancel it. I would imagine if you offered up rooms and tee times to people you know or people on here they'd get filled pretty quickly. You don't need to actually ever see or hang out with those people, but I doubt you'd have any problem filling the room.

Yeah, that's fair. Although from what I'm seeing, Sand Valley doesn't do what Bandon does and create an "account" for everyone when they get on site for any sort of room charge - any charge is just to one master account. Anyone who's been there before can correct me if I'm wrong. I'd be pretty hesitant having randoms come and charge rounds / food to the account I made the reservation for and taking off into the sunset.

They do set up separate accounts if you request billing to be set up that way.  When you make charges, they ask for room number and last name (to differentiate between two staying in the same double queen rooms).  Our procedure has always been for one person to make the reservation down payment, and a month prior each of my other trip attendees calls to pay their share of the down payment and get their account set up.

Wonder how tied down those in the queue are to dates? Maybe some will skip booking altogether if they can't get their preferred dates? Or will they just book whatever dates now no matter what and try to adjust the dates in the future...

I'm already assuming I won't be booking at all if/when I ever get called.

Just wanted to share some info with the group.

I responded within 20 minutes of the original email and I was 609 in line to start. 7 days later I missed my call which came through at 6:20am local time. I received another call about 9 hours later, and was able to book my times; however, there were 0 weekends left, and extremely limited week/weekdays left. Even the one 3 night stay I was able to secure had extremely limited tee times and I basically had to just take what I could get. I still feel fortunate to be able to have secured a tee time at each course (except commons because it’s not available for booking yet), but something feels wrong about essentially the entire 2026 season selling out in 1 week or maybe a little over 1 week.

Nothing wrong with it. You have four top 30 public courses in one spot charging are fraction of the price of other top public courses. Demand should be higher than supply.

Is there a better way to do reservations? That’s up for debate.

well for comparison, last year I tried twice on opening day to call and make a reservation, but I had work obligations so I couldn’t wait hours on hold.

By the time I was able to get through one week later…they were essentially sold out for the season.

demand >>>>>> supply. Regardless of how they do the sign up process.

Based on the message I received about my inquiry for our group of 16 booking early under Group Bookings, there must have been a ton of Group Bookings because they informed me those are at capacity and that I have no other option but to wait in the queue for 2026. Sounds like there’s no chance of booking our group of 16 at this point.

I’d say those who are singles or twosomes prob have the best chance of booking something decent. Others will probably be added to a waitlist and be contacted in a year if their window to stay opens up.

I didn't realize at the time how lucky our group last year was. I called Friday morning when they opened on Wednesday morning to book for our group of 8. Three nights and all courses including Lido. We got a weekend (granted it was early May) but still it worked out.

I responded to the email within the hour receiving it and we were able to get everything we had wanted. Was a bit of a wonky process for sure - we started reaching out last year, was told several times to subscribe to a couple different email lists, but eventually got on the right list and got notice. I don't have a better alternative, but does seem a little off to me to say "we'll open at a later date, just watch your email." People that have been planning far in advance may be at the disadvantage if they aren't able to closely monitor email on their day to day and someone who just got on the ball recently can swoop in.

I saw the initial email pretty soon after it was sent and started #807 in line. Got the call today at lunchtime, when I checked the queue right before the call I was #11 .

Not travelling with a group, just my wife and I, looking for three nights in warm weather (flexible schedule) and booked last week in July starting on a Sunday night. I'm a single golfer so easy to slot me in and got my preference at Mammoth Dunes and Sedge Valley early in the morning but couldn't get anything early at the Lido, 11:20 tee time.

Funny thing is that I asked for a room with a single king bed and she couldn't find anything for three nights in a row. We ended up in a room with two queen beds. Suspect that the vast majority of their guests are golfers travelling in pairs so that's not surprising.
