What’s your height and what’s your swing speed?

Recommended Posts

For the record I’m 5’8 and 38 yo. I swing driver in the 110-112 range but it’s a 975D with a 130 gram S300 shaft in it. Probably around 115 with graphite.

6'0 200lbs, 47.  On the course i'm pretty much 112-115 with driver in the past.  I hit 131-133 on an SSR Saturday pre-round but I'm pretty sure that was not accurate. haha. I can definitely hit 120 pretty regularly on max effort.

This is a super interesting thread.

it would be interesting to see videos of the swing comparisons for those of you that have 10+ mph delta between your hardest swing with driver no ball, and your hardest driver swing with ball (doesn’t matter where the balls goes after impact)

I’ve seen a couple players at the sim bays this offseason that have this delta and there no ball swing end up being a much flatter plane (club head bottoms out 8-12 inches off the ground) vs their golf swing that bottoms out 1-2 inches off the ground.

As a slower swinger, it always astounds me that everyone on here has a ss well in excess of 110mph. Obviously this forum is representative of keen golfers rather than joe average, but absolutely noone I play with hits it anywhere near 120 mph.

What kind of handicaps do you all have? Are you long but wildly inaccurate, ir all close to scratch? I have a ss of around 100 if i go full out, carry it 240 tops, and play off 5. If I hit it another 30-40 yards I'd be off 1 or 2, no doubt about it.

I struggle to fathom how anyone who is capable of hitting it over 270 yards consistently isn't single figures at very least so I assume you are all well below that?

True, but the better players I get partnered with look like they are swinging much more softly. A scratch or better player typically looks very smooth. They take their time, and it doesn’t look like they’re swinging as fast as they can move the club. Looks like 70% to 80% effort.

Most people here, are maxed out. Even my 99mph SS is warmed up and swinging about as fast as I can. My son at 130mph is most definitely swinging as fast as he can.

On the course, golfers like us tend to swing as fast as we can only to wonder why the balls don’t go perfectly straight.

Which was kind of my point. If your max is 120, but you are hitting it ob twice a round, why not do as the pros do and swing it softer?

If flat out you have 120 in your locker then you have a fair amount of scope to do that and still hit a 260 yard drive, which is IMO more than enough to play at a very high level

At a 3 last year (going down every year) my handicap hasn't really improved by swinging faster. Its better strike and more greens hit. Most of that has come from moving to a fade.

I can get to 108 but im usually cruising between 100 and 105. Plenty of speed to be scratch playing courses between 6,000 and 6,500 yards.

I usually have ( like any decent player at any swing speed) two driver speeds: fairway finder, full send. I probably use full send 2 times on the course.

I think there is a difference between swinging fast as possible and striking efficiently. You can swing at cruise speed and get your ball speed up through several different improvements, usually just better path. I disagree most people are swinging 100% on the course. I see a lot of people guiding the club so they don't slice it off the planet. A slice swing at full speed is not playable. Most ams don't understand that a square face, good path, and proper AOA produce higher ball speeds without more effort.

Yeah he’s a freak of nature. Rickie and JT are similar height though and they also cruise upwards of 120 MPH on course. It has always baffled me.

Ricky is your height but JT is not -- hes 5'10, and Ricky is much shorter hitter than JT, about 5-7mph ball speed.
