I cannot grasp how people are defending him. This is a historic and elite member owned club. I can’t imagine the membership will allow this idiot back on the grounds. I know if I had a voice and a vote among the membership i would do my best to make sure that happens.

 

Its not like it’s a like room in a new massive corporate NFL stadium that a player through his helmet against the wall in. It’s a place where people are proud of individual spike marks on a bench from all the legends.

 

if he’s not sanctioned by the USGA I would hope the club will take care of it.

The behavior is the same whether it’s at the changing room at the local mini or Oakmont and equally unacceptable.  
 

Just because it’s some elite club doesn’t make it worse or more offensive.

I hear you. And I agree for the most part. His behavior is totally unacceptable and if someone behaves like that anywhere it is horrific and totally unacceptable.

 

i guess part of my point is that although the behavior is equally abhorrent, the consequences of throwing acid on a Van Gogh vs a thrift store doodle are much much different.

On top of that, damaging a fellow competitor's locker places an unnecessary distraction for that player especially in a major. If he had to move all his belongings to another locker or couldn't access his locker when it's being fixed. Those are things a player shouldn't have to deal with because of another player's stupidity.

The marks in the negative column sure seem to be accumulating quickly for Wyndham. Seems clear that he needs something to change, someone to help. He has the means to do that, can take or leave him on the golf course but for his own sanity I hope he gets it.

Totally agree, came here to say the say basically the same thing myself. 

 

I throw it back to Arnold Palmer, "you're not good enough to get that mad", Clark won a major, had a spike in performance, most likely achieved or overachieved at that level. It's not like he's been knocking on the door of majors and finally broke through.

Not too long ago I came across the Bob Does Sports video they did with Wyndham and forced myself to watch 10 minutes, couldn't do it for any longer.  Wyndham came off as a huge doosh.  It was like he was trying to play the cool guy tour pro but it felt extremely forced and unlikeable.  He was trying to smack talk but it sounded like he was being fed lines from a guy who does local open mics at the dive bar downtown.  

 

Long story short, hearing he acted like a petulant child in the locker room at Oakmont was not surprising in the least and further confirmed my opinion of him I already had.

I think the real issue here is giving someone a pass for purposely destroying private property.  I'd guarantee that if Shipnuck or you let Wyndham stay at your house over the weekend, and you came back to the bathroom door kicked in, you wouldn't be so quick to say "whats the big deal, it's just a door". 

 

Oakmont is a historic landmark, the first golf course to ever receive that distinction.  So what he did was destroy private property at a historic landmark.  But, as stated already, it doesn't really matter if it's Oakmont or the local muni.  Acting like a spoiled child and breaking things when you didn't play a game up to your liking isn't acceptable.

Doesn’t seem like anyone is really divided on the locker issue.

 

And if we’re talking about things that aren’t a big deal, it’s the failed driver leak fiasco.

 

as another poster mentioned a simple “yea, it happens quite often as the club face degrades and I’m having to get used to a new driver” from Rory would have ended it right then and there.
