I don’t know the specifics of the ban, but Oakmont has every right to ban him from the property. They have no right to ban him from playing the US Open. If he’s qualified and eligible to play per the USGA and Oakmont insists he not play in the US Open, the USGA should tell them to get bent and take the tourney elsewhere. 
 

This is a case of Oakmont getting awarded those future US Opens, getting big in the head and not knowing how to act with their newly acquired perceived power. It is petty, classless, and disrespectful to the British Open to publicly (through their members) announce this on the eve of the Open.
 

Augusta already provided the playbook to ban an unwanted participant… you simply send him a letter. The fact Oakmont went out of their way to get in the limelight while Augusta goes out of their way to stay out of the limelight tells you everything you need to know about anyone who wants to come Augusta to Oakmont.

I completely disagree with this take as well. The only part that I am in somewhat agreement with is that Oakmont cannot ban a player from a USGA event. However, the USGA can (and should) address the situation as well. There are several years before the next Open at Oakmont. Clark has more than enough time to meet the conditions set forth by Oakmont. The notion that the USGA should tell Oakmont to pound sand in defense of Clark is laughable. Oakmont is in the right here. Clark messed up and apparently has failed to apologize or make restitution for the damage he caused. If he would have handled this in the correct manner, this ban would most likely have never been issued and the matter would be over. Clark brought this on himself.

Good for the USGA to hold him accountable. The PGA Championship should do the same. He actually put someone in danger there vs just breaking something.

I think it's perfectly reasonable to hold Wyndham accountable for destroyed property that belonged to Oakmont. If an average Joe did that, a country club would heavily consider pressing charges.

you think Oakmont hosts the US Open because they are in need of the publicity from it? ... perhaps Oakmont was awaiting some letter of apology that never came ... is there any reason Clark doesn't send a letter the next day? ... with a huge chec to cover the costs? ... what's that reason none of that happens? ... instead, brat boy Clark released a statement saying he'd like everyone to move on ... he threw a hissy fit because he didn't play well and destroyed property that has been around for decades ... let's all take out a locker when we don't play well ... the guy is a class A jerk ... any maybe they're trying to protect the locker room at Portrush ...

All of this exactly. Everyone gets angry sometimes, it happens. What 99.9999% of people don't do is destroy lockers like this. But if you find yourself in that 0.0001% that does, the immediate second you finish getting the steam out there should be a moment of clarity where you step back, take a look at your work, and go "well that's not my finest hour, time to go make this right." In that moment what you do is 1) find the locker room attendant, 2) show him what you did, 3) apologize and state you lost your cool, 4) take out your checkbook and write a blank check right then and there. After you do that, you don't leave the property until you've found the club president, apologized to him in person, and asked what else needs to be done to make it right. That lack of thought process is evidence enough to me, and I guess the Oakmont board, that unfortunately Wyndham's mind and anger management are not in a place where the vast majority of the population's are, and as such require professional evaluation.

Having just hosted their 10th US Open over the past almost century, starting with their first in 1925, which places Oakmont #1 in US Opens hosted of ANY Club in this Great Nation🇺🇸, combined with their T2 ranking in total Majors hosted in the USA🇺🇸(17),  trailing only Merion who has 19, while The Country Club(Brookline, MA) also sits at 17(Not counting ANGC and their Invitational), trust me here, or not😉, there ain't NOTHIN "newly acquired," johnny come lately or nouveau about Oakmont, their members or their attitude!!!

 

Prior to health issues, I Played over there 7-8 times a season for 25+ years, so I'm pretty familiar with the Club, The Players and the attitude, and while sometimes their 'tude can grate like chalk on a chalk board, so can mine, so over all, they're a Great Club, with an excellent membership and appropriate Attitude for a Champion!!

 

To use Augusta as the barometer and beacon of Class, to me, looking back over their almost century of existence along with their history with their lil Invitational, and yah, I've also Played myriad rounds there, though I in no way know their membership as I do Oakmonts', however I have a pretty good idea, and while I will speak for no one else on this board, ANGC is nowhere close to to what I would consider the Beacon of Class😂😂

 

It is what it is and that POS💩 deserves EVERYTHING coming his way, including a public call out. One incident, ok, if you want the private punitive actions, while I disagree, I would not stand in the way of that(if say, my Club Board were having a vote on it), however TWO INCIDENTS, with property damage involved????

 

Nope, lil Wyndham thinks he's a bad boi, and wants to act like he thinks bad bois act, then I'd drag his worthless classless *** through the public domain, making sure that everyone saw what would happen if someone denigrates property, à Tournament and most importantly, The Game!!

 

Someone can say a lot about Oakmont, especially if they've never ever even stepped foot on the grounds and do not know the Club, the Membership or the 'Tude, though there ain't nothin nouveau or "newly acquired" about Oakmont😂😂🤙

 

You may call this "virtue signaling" or whatever other nouveau circa 2025 cliche is cool to drop, and I'm good with it.  Some walk softly and carry a big stick while others walk loudly, crunch the ground beneath them and carry a bigger stick. There are many different personalities on a Team, and there is room for all, though I've always found it cute that those who chirp the loudest about "free speech" are the ones screaming the loudest judgmentally  when others exhibit it, especially with dissenting views, opinions and thoughts.

Said it before, but it's worth repeating. The most telling line in that whole slop-fest is "I'm sorry for what happened" and not "I'm sorry for what I did." No responsibility taken, no remorse for anything except the fully justified blowback.

Seeing his first round performance, Royal Portrush would be well served to hand him is locker contents at the conclusion of his second round rather than grant him access.
