This is typical of the completely over the top internet commentary on what was without doubt a totally wrong thing to do on Wyndham Clark's part but to say he "beat the hell out of...the lockers". Again while wrong the damage is minimal you'd think he torched the clubhouse to the ground.

Love Wyndam's game, his nasty temper, not so much.  No matter how angry you get, you don't destroy property THAT'S NOT YOURS like he did at the US Open.  I'm glad Oakmont laid down the law after his little hissy fit.  Hopefully he learns from it and grows up.

Wyndham isn't the first guy to lose his cool and wont be the last. Hi actions shouldn't be excused, but had he taken responsibility and solved the problem, he would have been forgiven. We all screw up. Take responsibility and own your mistake. As someone pointed out above, it's not hard. Apologize to the clubhouse attendant, tell him to send you the bill. Call the president of the club, apologize and offer a donation to the junior program. That would have been the end of it. 

 

Instead, he snuck away and tried to negotiate a resolution through his freaking agent. That's like a parent calling on their kid's college professor to negotiate a better test score. Grow up Peter Pan.

Everybody loses their temper once in a while.  The bass hats make a habit of it.  The guys on Tour who take heat for their behavior are the ones who constantly behave like angry spoiled children.  We all know who they are; it’s just a bit comical that the Tour doesn’t do more about it.  Though many of them are over at LIV now, which is good because there’s no pressure over there to perform, so it probably helps with those little temper problems.

It was poor behavior on his part.  No question about that.  In no way am i excusing it. 

It's also a petty response,  imo, by the club.  Instead of handling it gracefully,  they decided to have a d!** measuring contest over some wicker.

I would wager a small amount they reached out to him privately first.  When he ignored that, the hammer dropped appropriately with the resultant media call out.  Honestly, it should have been handled immediately at the club after it happened by the moron.

Petty response?  He was a guest on the property and he destroyed property while throwing a childish temper tantrum.  The club should have simply described his behavior as unacceptable and banned him from the property permanently.  Instead, they chose to be gracious and offer him a pathway back.  If anything their response was muted, not petty.

I doubt Arnie ever fired a driver at a sign with a volunteer standing behind it. The lockers were at a National Historic Landmark, and just the latest episode of extremely poor judgement.
