Wyndham Clark - we in or out?

Is blow pig not doing pressers?  We’ve heard from Rory 3 times since the wind ham “allegedly” destroyed lockers.  What gives?  Why don’t we see 72 stories on Wyndham avoiding the press.  Why aren’t the talking heads postulating on this???

... So you missed the press conference where he said he was adding this to his bag?

Right after they announce Wyndham on the first tee at the Traveler’s, they should play the sound of a baby crying over the PA.

Or a wrecking ball.

I don't think anyone is advocating or defending the destruction of other people's property.

I think what is being said is that it's not that serious.

Some want to give him grace, while others are putting him in the same class as a serial killer. The answer lies somewhere in the middle.

The seriousness depends upon the value of the property destroyed.  Under PA law it could be as minor as a summary offense or as serious as a felony offense.  In other words, it could be considered a crime, if Oakmont chose to go that route.  Plain and simple, the conduct is completely inappropriate.

... All 2 yr olds throwing a tantrum have very serious passion.  🤪  Having played many sports I have found the best athletes in every venue use but control their passion in a constructive way. The Tiger full body pump comes to mind.

Oh, I've seen Tiger throw clubs, take massive chunks out of the golf course. Not to mention Language that would make a sailor blush.

I've seen players like Davis Love take out a sprinkler head that held up a golf tournament.

I can go on and on, but I won't.

I think that it's part of the stupid game.

No one is arguing that it's appropriate. Just part of the stupid game.

Adam Hadwin destroyed a sprinkler just a month ago.  Is there a thread on that? We're police called? 😅

Its definitely bad behavior but if I had a dollar for every item broken in locker rooms or whatever by pro/college/HS athletes, I'd probably have quite a few dollars.  He should certainly apologize and pay up and recognize he is on a very short leash going forward.

Talks of ending his career, or jail, l mean, come on. It was a wicker panel on a locker.

In 100 years, there could be a plaque in that room commemorating the time 2023 US Open Champion snapped after a rough day at Oakmont.

... True but to be fair to DL III, it was a one time thing and he was very embarrassed. Especially since it happened at Arnie's. He says it is one of the huge regrets in his life and his Dad would have been very disappointed in him. So at least he recognized his transgression and apologized and never did anything like it again. His book "Every Shot I take" is an informative and amazing read.

Slamming your club on the ground after a bad shot is, or can be, part of the game.

... I have found that usually those slamming their club in the ground are the same ones complaining about getting a bad lie and couldn't care less about the bad lie they just created for someone behind them.

Oh, OK, now you're allowed one time? The second time should require Anger management classes.

I can agree with that.

Hadwin's wife put him on blast before the media could even get to it aside from the original clip and he not only had already gone to someone to talk about paying for it but he bought lunch for the whole grounds crew and made an apology well before anyone needed to step up and hold him accountable. Certainly taking a club to something out on the course right after a bad shot is less of an indicator of poor emotional regulation than getting in the locker room not owned by the league/tour/etc. and going to town.

It was also out of the ordinary for Hadwin. I mean, Canadian 😄.

No doubt it shouldn't be career-ending for Clark, but there's a pretty big difference in the circumstances and there's a much longer history of Clark not knowing how to channel his emotions in an acceptable way.

... Yea I do think everyone is entitled to one judgmental mistake. It is how we learn, especially when we are young. What we do with that knowledge is the important thing. I think it really comes down to understanding what circumstances we can control and what we can't. I do like your idea of anger management after a 2nd offense. 😇

... A few years ago playing a serious match with a friend that flew into town, I had my best front 9 ever at 5 under going into #9 after hitting a huge drive with the wind at my back. A front pin and I had to land a 58* short and let it bounce on because down grain and downwind landing on the green my ball could have rolled off the back. Hit it as well as I could but it caught the edge of a sprinkler head I couldn't see and bounced sideways into the lake. All I could do was laugh to release the tension. Getting angry and slamming my club or throwing it in the lake might have changed the outcome because I had a difficult pitch over a bunker to save my bogey and did exactly that. But my momentum was gone and hitting a near perfect shot was the culprit. Completely out of my control so why get angry?

Then hit up the Louvre and draw a mustache on the Mona Lisa

You took a homely looking woman and turned her into a homelier but funnier looking woman. This is an improvement. Nobody likes the painting anyways, we are just told to like it. It's a mix of serene landscapes and winding paths where Leonardo tells us that "life is a journey, but sometimes you just end up settling." Why the f**k would any of us want to be reminded of that?

Listening to people talk about how shafts feel on WRX is like listening to blind people describe objects.

I don't understand why we can't just use our heads here? I would hope we would all agree that something like Rory breaking a plastic tee marker 2 seconds after a bad shot is different than Wyndham destroying 100 year old lockers an hour after his round. Combined with the fact that we had the PGA incident where he could've seriously injured someone (and was worse than the locker incident IMO) just a month ago and we probably should treat this a little differently.

The purpose of discipline is to correct an unwanted behavior so that it doesn’t occur again.  Obviously, whatever the consequences were after the club throwing incident, failed to correct that behavior.

It’s up to the PGA/USGA and Oakmont to determine what his consequences should or shouldn’t be.

If fans truly don’t approve of his behavior they can always refrain purchasing from his sponsors.  But that’s up to each individual and in my small opinion would be like shooting at a freight train with a BB gun.
