G430 10K @ 44” with a heavier shaft?

I’m thinking about trying the Max 10K 10.5 with a heavier shaft at 44” to see if I can’t blend the stability with a little bigger face and more driver like launch vs just a mini driver. Right now I’m playing the TSr2 10* with a TR Blue 7X. Curious to hear people’s experiences if they’ve gone a similar direction.

I have g430max 12 turned to 13 at 43.5" as my fairway finder driver. I mainly hit 3w off the tee, and I found a shorter driver is more forgiving as a tee club. It saved my game when I had less confidence or lost my swing.

I think you can try your 3 wood shaft into your driver first if they share the same shaft adapter. My current shaft is in the same weight category as my regular driver, but stiffer. I thought about going heavier shaft too. Tried my 3 wood shaft (TR red 6s) on it, but I don't see much difference, so decided to keep it in my 3 wood. YMMV.

Shorter playing lengths in the driver (of all full size makes and models) is VERY common for members of the forum - and has been for a while now.

 

I've been playing 44" and 44.5" for a long time now and currently in the G425 at 44".    

 

Whether or not you need to also increase the shaft weight is something only trial and error testing will tell you.   I didn't, but that doesn't mean it might not help you out.

 

This can show you how to test that w/o actually having to buy heavier shaft.  With some lead tape, and just by choking up you can test out the idea with your current driver.

Hi Stuart, Just curious how tall you are? Being a upper mid handicap this is something I have considered. Because of my height of 6"3 though I am hesitant. Right now I play 45.5 in a GT2 and hit decent. I just picked up a 10K at 45.25 but have not had the chance to hit yet. I understand it varies from person to person and you have to try different lengths but in your experiences where does a person of my height draw the line for shorter length. Thanks for your time, always enjoys reading your input.

I'm 5' 11" - but lots of others much taller than me are going that short - or close to it.

 

To be honest, it's rare for height (or really WTF) to really be a factor in fitting driver length.   Sure, it can be a big factor on the short end of the set and making sure you don't end up with clubs that are too short.   But at the longer end of the set, finding the best playing length is much more about your athletic ability and mechanics that will determine at what point things become too long and performance will drop.   

 

Or to put it another way,  if you don't have a problem with a 43" or even 43.5" 3wd,  you're not going to have a problem with a 44" driver.

 

Regardless, if there is any problems, it will show up when you go through the tutorial and test different lengths by choking up.
