4 degree gapping at that point in the bag becomes pointless because if you don't have enough speed to maintain the gapping then you're also not going to have enough speed to get value out of those long irons. The vast majority of players who use GI sets should not be carrying a 4 iron. Most shouldn't carry a 5 either. That's why most GI sets can be purchased in 5-W or 6-W.

I went 6-AW and replaced my 5 iron with a 5 hybrid.  At 68 years young I figure if Fred Couples doesn’t carry an iron below a 7 I probably should give up on the 3/4/5 irons too.

I found a mint set of Elytes 5-S 9irons with kbs pgi70 for cheap to experiment against my New Level 623cb forged with Modus 105x gamers.  The results….the Elytes never came close.  The distance loft for loft was similar.  The feel, height, spin, dispersion was way better with the New Level.   This is my last gi iron experiment. I am about a 6-8hdcp and a good, not great, ball striker.

The New Levels were better for YOU but that won’t be the case for everyone.  It would be interesting had you been able to compare using the same shafts

Callaway running trade in right now 50% bonus plus 10% irons. Basically could get a set of these for damn neat free with my extra $hit that’s just sitting around.

I get they are good Mid Handicap irons but I can’t assume going to kick my i230s or Mp243s out? (Have a lot of speed, driver holding my HC back big time)

I’ll also say this,

if the OP has 118 mph Driver CHS, wth is he doing in 90g reg flex iron shafts and a stiff driver shaft

Im just a small amount of CHS faster and have C Taper 130s and Diamana WB TX Wood shafts lol what am missing

Shaft stiffness needed a lot of times can be based on acceleration at impact and not SS. A long swing that develops speed ratably doesn’t need as stiff a shaft as someone like Rahm who has crazy acceleration.

Has anyone compared these to the p790s yet? Would like to see that comparison.

I moved to Elyte Core from the ‘23 P790. Haven’t had a flyer yet - over a dozen rounds in. Was getting the flyer every other round with P790.

How's launch and spin? 🤔

I had my data for a while on my phone but deleted it! That said, I carry 6 iron as my longest iron. It’s a 5 iron with a 6 on it like most modern sets. I carry the A wedge but not the G. Believe those are 48° and 51° respectively. What I did different was I went with a 115g and I have mine 1° weak and 2° flat which makes my irons appear to my eye to have less offset.

Well the 2x trade value just opened and it's serendipitous for a set of i210s to fall thru on an ebay purchase 😀

So I'll take my P770 4-pw 2024 irons in and 100 bucks or so grabbing a 5-pw and AW but like you, I'll adjust weaker and flatter I believe.....

Have you seen an improvement to scores , confidence,  greens hit?

Came from P790 and also T200. I’m more consistent and the heel miss (my miss) is better with Elyte. I’m a 4ish index and ball striking is not my strength. What these have done for me is give me more confidence. I’m just starting to get comfortable too. Even ignored the new Titleist T series dur to Elyte.

Very similar.....almost 60 and speed loss has cost me distance,  confidence and greens .....every Bleu moon, I get that course or round in which I "find it"

But struggle with longer irons in particular which bleeds over for some odd reason.....actually because I lack distance all around, if I don't hit a decent drive ,then get stuck hitting more club into greens than necessary.

I'm lefty so REALLY hard to locate proper set to demo ....

I've got a set of these inbound from the Classifieds, 5-GW with Concept 105 F4 graphite shafts. I've been interested to try those shafts for a while and these heads look great in-hand. Might be a catch and release situation depending on the fit of the shafts but I like to experiment.

My current irons are a blended set of OG Srixon ZX5/ZX7's on MMT 125 stiff. Honestly I really like everything about them but I'm constantly curious whether the shafts are the best fit for me. One of these days I'll visit a good fitter who owns all the heavier graphite options to try.

I'm expecting that the Elyte 6-AW will probably be comparable to the 5-PW in my set in terms of launch and distance. More to follow.

I’m open to experimenting. Seems like these might benefit from a 1-2 weak bend which would also reduce offset.

My set is due to arrive today.

Got mine out for a range session yesterday and had them in the bag for a round today.

My set is 5-P + A + G on Recoil Concept 105 stiff shafts.  Honestly I was as interested in trying the shafts as the heads but I’ve been Elyte-curious since they came out.

I doubt the AW or GW will ever make the bag as I’m really happy with my wedge situation. If anyone wants those heads hit me up. I’ll keep the shafts.

When I was comparing these to my current irons I initially thought they were an inch short. Turns out my old irons are an inch long. Whoops! That’s what I get for building them myself.

The Elyte heads are nice and compact with moderate sole width. Easy to aim and set up too. They launch well and the trajectory I’m seeing with these shafts is moderate. The flight is strong and biased toward being very straight without much draw or fade.

It’s been a while since I played a head that prioritized forgiveness. The Elytes are far from a cheat code but they do a great job of preserving distance on all kinds of mishits. I had a couple of approaches I hit fat and I expected those shots to come up a club short. Instead they reached the front fringe.

I’m really pleased so far and would have no issue keeping these in the bag. I’m also going to cut down my old set by at least .5” to give them a fair shake. I can’t believe I’ve played them over length for a year or more without realizing it.

Nice write-up. The core Elyte are truly a great balance of forgiveness, feel and performance.

I am actually trying out some Elyte X irons with the same Axiom shafts, and I think I prefer the core Elyte. I might end up doing a combo set with Elyte X in 6 and 7 irons, but the core Elyte look better, feel better, carve through the rough better, and don’t give up much in forgiveness.

I could see using the bigger head in the 5/6 irons. I like to combo.

I trimmed my old clubs down by 0.75” yesterday and regripped them. Now they’re around standard Srixon spec. These are ZX5 5-7 and ZX7 8-P.

I took the Srixon 7&9 irons to the Trackman bar today and did a head to head comparison with the Elytes. There wasn’t much difference in dispersion or distance. The main difference was in spin with the Elytes coming up about 10% shy of the Srixons. But this was a limited test on mats with only 5-6 shots per club.

I think the feel of the Elytes is better than the ZX5’s but not as good as the ZX7’s. Understandable really considering the differences in construction. My ZX5’s are the first version which are a little harsh compared to the more recent ones.

Going to keep comparing and contrasting. I could definitely play either set happily.

Some reviewers are pushing the Elyte HL as the best option of the bunch. Interesting for sure.

Being a completist, I tried the HL as well! Liked them, but didn’t love them. They are a longer blade length compared to the core and X. The X are the thickest of the bunch. Turf interaction for me is much better with the core compared to the HL.

I have decided to combo the X with the core for the time being, as the X 6 and 7 irons have been really good their first couple of rounds (but I still prefer the more compact core in 8-A). YMMV.

Pretty much stock vector shaft not being a great fit for me is why I took the Elyte irons back ...... going in different knowing exactly what is needed for my iron play . Solid iron with right shaft however.
