I tried one as well and thought it worked great on the 10’ and in putts but had an issue with speed control on longer putts.  What I don’t like about Odyssey copying the shape is there will be players that buy one just so they can show off their “deal” and claim it’s just as good…just cheaper.  And still not be able to make a putt.

Are we really complaining about lab prices? This is wrx, where we throw down 600 every year on a driver that isnt any better than the last… where as a putter could literally last a lifetime. Also, I prefer quality made in USA over massed produced cheap in china stuff even if its a few bucks more. 
 

As for the odyssey, it may be legal and their right to make, but man that is just dirty lol

Regardless if you prefer "made in USA" stuff, competitors like Odyssey will hopefully force LAB to adjust prices and work on their production times

there is nothing on a LAB putter (stock) worth $600 - made in the USA or otherwise. 
 

and a driver has a head that has weights, carbon, premium shaft, etc -- so, not apples/apples debate exactly. 

it's an aluminum head with weight ports in it. heck i think even wilson or topflite might have those by now. 

"but the technology is worth that" (lab) -- prolly not.

if you think you can putt better with it and it works for you and don't mind blowing that much on it, by all means - it's your wallet. 

bought my antidote that has same tech (premise) - it's a milled head and face for $435 and a much better quality cover that doesn't have an outer layer and backing that delaminates in 2 rounds (only slight sarcasm but, mostly serious).

I highly doubt it. The majority of people pay for a lab for its precision, attention to detail, customization and some things odyssey cant do like the press grip. Im sure there will be some that will go for the odyssey but they probably wouldnt have been a lab customer anyways.

Well nothing is worth its asking price. There of course is markup for profit. But the reason LABs cost is a little higher is because they have a process that nobody else does. They go through alot of shafts because of imperfections. Thats why they push for higher end shafts like accra or tpt because they are manufactured at a much better tolerance and dont have to compensate as much to balance them. No other company is combing through these details to balance a putter much less one custom to your specs. Thats what you are paying for. Also, the stock model is 449, not 600.

you tell me how much of a process they have then counter it with "but they use high end shafts"...the accra shaft is mass produced, and the TPT is an expensive upgrade.

tried the broom, thought it was stable but crap on extremely fast greens. the shorter models all liked to hit pulls on shorter putts and i couldn't get on with that. 

good on you odyssey for bringing something to the masses that looks better (marginally) and employs the same premise. 

 

You can't even pick the lie angle of an Odyssey putter on their website. It's not even the same thing.

Snake oil? Im not justifying it, Im just telling you why it costs more. Because their manufacturing costs are higher. The accra, while mass produced *apparently* has less tolerances than the stock steel. Less tolerances means less duds, less balancing/ labor time. But also means it costs more. But its also completely optional. Again stock is 449 and what, 100 bucks more than its competitors who aren’t doing the same process….Who are mimicking the tech but cant replicate it? I ordered a custom on thanksgiving during their sale, and in the busiest time they will probably ever see I had mine in a month. You cant even get customs with these competitors but yet LAB is being ripped because you have to wait for it? What? You are embellishing a bit, but its whatever. Im sure these odyssey will sell quite a bit. But LAB will be fine too, as of now they still offer something unique, no matter who is trying to mimic them. 
 

Anyways, I’ll let the thread continue to be about this putter. Just find it funny LAB gets tagged to lower prices on an odyssey putter thread. Like Come’on.

Personally I'm rooting for the 100% made in USA product produced by skilled craftsmen/women over something made overseas.  The customer service is also fantastic.

I wonder if it catches on, if doesn't do LAB more favors than hurts them? The average viewer is going to associate that shape with LAB more than Odyssey from what little they can make out on TV. No different than people using their sponsor, "Brand X", headcover on their Taylormade driver. The average viewer sees the headcover and a black driver. The assumption is the headcover matches the driver.

Yeah this narrative that is taking hold that there is no difference between the lab and odyssey is crazy to me. I am by no means a lab fan boy, far from it really, but you cannot compare a milled in the USA boutique putter with features that are only available on their product to a mass produced cast head from a factory of unknown provenance. They are not made of the same quality materials so it is an apples to oranges comparison. Odyssey putters, while good putters, are like fast fashion. No one would compare an outfit from SHEIN to a bespoke suit

Totally agree, people complaining about LAB prices don't understand that each putter is hand-tuned prior to leaving the factory to ensure it is perfectly balanced, and all the work is done in the US. That unfortunately costs money, but leads to a better product.

 

While Odyssey I'm sure is coming close with their new square 2 square line, those putters are mass produced and are not balanced to the extent LAB does with their putters, so of course they can offer them at a cheaper price.

 

Bottom line is you pay for what you get, I'm sure Takomo irons are great (especially for the price), but they offer very limited shaft options and from videos I've seen the swing weights coming out of the factory are all over the place, whereas if you purchase from a regular OEM they typically have more shaft/grip options and are built to better tolerances.

If anyone thinks Callaway is going to be sued by LAB, you are kidding yourself.  LAB isn't going anywhere but they will lose a sizeable chunk of business with the big boys like TM and Callaway entering the space.  Scotty will be next as well as Ping.

Absolutely they are expensive - but they aren't much more than and other US made milled putter.  A Scotty, which is a mass produced, can have a "limited run" for 700 bucks and you guys are losing your minds trying to buy one.   The LAB putters go through multiple people's hands,  multiple American workers.  Every single one has to be individually balanced by hand.

I am 100% certain that LAB would love nothing more than to lower the cost and make the process faster.   If you can tell me how to make a US made product with US labor and undercut a product that's mass produced in China, I'm sure they'd pay you handsomely.

I doubt there's any IP to make that worth it.  There's a reason putter startups rarely get purchased by larger companies. Much cheaper to hire the putter designer.  Latest example would be Sean Toulon. 

 

The only way LAB gets purchased by a large OEM is if for whatever reason they hold the market share after competing product is introduced.  In that case the value would be market share.
