MEMBER REVIEWS: TPT Golf Nitro and Power Range Member Testing | See What Members Are Saying

Recommended Posts

Shafts arrived! Nicest packaging I’ve ever seen for golf equipment. It’s smooth wound cardboard with no seams, brilliant!

Just enough time for me to check them out and snap a few pictures. The shaft appearance is very unique, the carbon fiber texture is very obvious under direct light. It catches and reflects the light a little bit when you move it around. Really cool.

I ordered them at my usual playing lengths (44.75 driver, 42.5 4W, 40.25 3H) and they’re all a bit longer than my gamers. Of course measurement methods vary, I’m glad they erred on the longer side. I will likely demo a couple times as-is, then trim a bit and re-grip with my preferred tour velvet cords.

Yeah, I was 1/4" over on my driver.

If I were to give a suggestion for the online ordering, it would be being able to write in the exact length of the shaft you want rather than the manufacture's playing length.

I had my first really good round of the year yesterday. I've been spraying it around more than I'd like since the snow melted but was in control of the ball for the first time since early December. Hit 11/14 fairways and managed to shoot a 70. I'm getting more comfortable with the three new shafts. Still need to swap the grips.

I got some quick numbers with the driver only ( just the TPT vs the VB OG ) before the round. Everything was nearly identical. Smash was a little better with the TPT. Very small sample size and I'll dive in deeper. To be fair, I warmed up with the TPT then got the numbers. Then went directly into the Ventus. I didn't have a lot of time.

Dispersion on the course with all three shafts was really good all day.  But that could of been playing without layers for the first time in months. It's odd not have a draw club at the top of the bag. I could always count on at least the hybrid being that club. I needed to turn one left on a par 5 later in the round and hit it dead straight, which got me in trouble.

I mentioned I'm playing the QI35 core 9* turned down to lower. I also bought the LS at the same time. The core was winning out on the course with the other shafts. I don't love the head shape and may try the LS again with the TPT.

I had the opportunity to go to the simulator this afternoon for a bit. I am still trying to process what I saw with my trackman numbers. Was able to snap one picture for my buddy of some of the driver data (attached). Did my typical warm up of about 8 wedge shots, moved to an 8 iron for about 8 more shots and hit 6-7 6 irons then went hybrid, 3 wood, driver.

I'll start with the driver for the review. Current setup is a GT3 9.0 Gen 4 Hazrdus 6.5 45" I was virtual fit for the 16Hi Nitro cut to 45" as well. My current ball speeds hover around 152 ~155 mph, my ball flight has always been a little cut. I have a negative club path around -4 degrees. Hit about 12 balls with my gamer and was averaging 288 yards total. Popped the Nitro in and holy smokes the ball speed jumped up to about 163 mph, my average went to 300 yards total. The only thing that I did not care for about this shaft is that it felt like I really had to go at it EVERY time. I took it "offline" for a bit to hit my stock fairway finder swing and it didn't seem to hold up from a dispersion standpoint. I'm honestly not worried about yardage or ball speed with that swing it's purely positional for me. That was the only knock. The Nitro was the real deal for me. It performed so well when I really jumped on a swing. I am dying to test these out outside. I have never really cared for simulators as I don't think they paint a true picture of on course performance.

On to the 3 wood. My current gamer is a Ping G425 LST 14.5 tuned to +1 loft with a Project X Denali Blue 6.5 at 43". The fitting had me in a 16Hi Power so that's what I went with. I actually started this off with the TPT shaft in. I set the target to 245 yards which is pretty typical length for my 3 wood off the deck. My cut almost turned into a monster slice i could not get a feel for this at all. The shaft felt like it was lagging behind too far on my downswing. Even my "smooth" it swings couldn't get this to do what i wanted it to. Again, I'd like to take this out to the range as soon as Kentucky decides it wants to stop having insane weather all the time. As of right now though the scoreboard is Denali 1 TPT 0. I hate to say that but that's what happened tonight.

Last but not least the hybrid. I play a Ping G430 19* cranked up to 21.5* due to the fact i found this thing to be too hot from a gapping standpoint and it bumped into my 3 wood yardages. It has a Graphite Design AD DI 105x Hybrid shaft stock length. I got the 16Hi in this as well. Maybe the most dramatic of all 3 shafts was this head-to-head. I lost distance, my dispersion was frankly awful and really couldn't get a rhythm going at all with this shaft. I've said it above and I'll say it again. Nothing is finite, just one night in a simulator (which is not my ideal fitting situation at all!). Really want to take this out to an outdoor range and spend some time actually seeing the ball fly. I just can't comprehend it being so dramatically different than my current gamer situation.

After tonight I'm excited to test these out so more, season is just around the corner so hopefully can get everything squared away.

Thank you again to @GolfWRX_Official and @TPT_GOLF. Will have more detailed information to come.

Good evening, fellow WRXers! I am still on cloud 9, knowing that I have the privilege of testing these shafts for the wonderful people on this site.  So the weather here in the Pacific Northwest is still rainy and windy so getting out has been tough but that doesn't mean it hasn't happened.  I was able to get out on Sunday for 18 holes for a Veterans Golf Association (VGA) and we had our first 9-hole Mens night tonight.

VGA:

Arrived early to the course to get some swings in and to do the "rain rain go away dance" just to find out they don't have a driving range.  This hurt because I wasn't able to compare it to any of my gamer shafts that I normally play and putting a shaft in play after just hitting it in a simulator isn't something that I would normally do.  However, I said "screw it" let's ride and go with all three shafts in this tournament.

STATS:

DRIVER:  6/15 with 5 missing to the left and 3 missing to the right.  With the wind, it is hard to determine if it was the shaft or me.  I will tell you one thing that I seem to feel with the driver, I can't seem to feel the head at the top of my swing. I don't know if I need to find the right setting on the adaptor or maybe look at the Qi35 LS because that head is a little heavier.  If anyone has any ideas please let me know because I want this shaft to work. After all, it feels so good.  I cannot speak of distance as it was too windy and wet but when I hit it on the screws it flew.

3-WOOD:  I hit it three times and man it flat-out works in my Qi10 Tour, straight, high, and long!  I probably should have used it off the tee more as the course was short and the 3-wood and hybrid would have kept a 7 off the scorecard.  However, I continue to love the feel and combo of the TPT shaft and Qi10 Tour.

HYBRID:  I hit this twice on the course and one I smoked and hit it to four feet from about 225 yards on a par 5.  I hit it off the tee on a short Par 4, pushed it to the right but it went about 230 and almost put me in the water.  Like the 3-wood this combo also continues to amaze me.

RESULTS:  TPT shafts continue to shine in the 3-wood and hybrid and the driver just needs some tinkering I believe once I find the right setting it will be a bomber!  Oh, did you want to know if I won or not...shot 79 with a 7 on a hole and the best round of all participants and won my division.  Everyone asks about the shafts, so the bag appeal is something to be said!

9-HOLE MENS GROUP:

We get together on Monday nights and play team golf, it could be scrambles or other games but it's usually low-dollar games and a lot of fun and beverages of our choice!  WET...WET...WET is how the night was, it dumped over the last few days.

DRIVER:  4/7 with two getting pulled straight left! Again, I still can't seem to feel the head at the top of my swing.  If anyone has any ideas please let me know because I want this shaft to work. After all, it feels so good.  I cannot speak of distance as it was too wet and wet but when I hit it on the screws it flew.

3-WOOD: Hit it twice, one on my second shot into a par 5 with about 245 to get to the front.  I necked it and was only 15 yards short of the green.  Felt good but it was more the swinger vs. the club this time and the next one I am going to explain.  The second time I used it was on #9 my second shot into a par-5.  Let me set the tone first, my partner had already hit and went DOD (driver off the deck) and he was sitting pretty so I hit my 3-wood as hard as I could and pushed that ball OB!  But let me tell you, if I was ever proud of a ball that went OB it was that one!  That ball shot off the face and would have covered the 255 yards that were needed to get there.  Trust me!

HYBRID: Didn't hit it.

RESULTS:

We LOST!  We couldn't putt!  Oh well, it wasn't the shafts it was the putter tonight!  Again, I think that I need to find the right setting for my driver and it is going to be a winner.

NEXT STOP:  I am going to TRY to get 18 holes in tomorrow but if not (Rain) it will be on Thursday or Friday on the TRACKMAN.  I have two shafts that I am going to put up against the TPT shaft; Project X Hzrdus SMOKE Blue RDX (PVD) and EvenFlow Riptide MX.

Enough for tonight, hope I let you all in a little bit!  See you in a few days but I am here to answer any questions you may have!

Time for the TPT LAB setup 😀

They are great-looking shafts, and "bag appeal" is a nice bonus with these.

Maybe slather some lead tape on your driver head to see if adding any weight indeed helps you feel the driver head more. Cheapest way to test your theory!

That’s what I am thinking brother!  I am wondering where I would put it as I don’t want to ruin the MOI but I do need to bring the spin down a little.  Thoughts?

Depends on your swing and all the variables but I personally start small and find the right weight. Most pre-made strips are 1-3g depending on thickness, so Id just stick a strip roughly around where you are trying to adjust and keep playing with it until you find the exact position and weight of the tape for a perfect drive. I roughly stick to this. Green zone will lower your spin the most and have the least affect on MOI. Purple is most neutral with second least affect on MOI. Pink will help close the face more and is tied for third for biggest increase in MOI with orange, which will help open the face more. Blue is all about increasing MOI and adds most forgiveness and spin.

I'm going to club champion this Saturday for a full bag fitting (first time going to cc) not sure if they give you the numbers once you're done or not but will post those here for the driver, 3 wood and hybrid.

Standard playing length at 45.5 inches and I have the 13 gram up front and 3 gram in the back.

I believe TM standard is 45.75, D3. So the head may have been a little light to start with the 13 and 3 at 45.5".

I would check the length of the driver shaft alone if you haven't. I play at 45" which is approximately 43.75" tip to grip to get there. I have the 15 and 7 to play at D4. But bought the weight kit, which was very helpful when the TPT came in a little longer than expected.

Also, these shafts are unlike anything I've played before, so give it some time.  I think once you get the weight right, it'll click. Especially if the other two are working well. I find them all to play very similarly.

I got home and checked the length of the TPT shaft and it was cut to what was ordered, through their recommended online length.  It measured out at 44.25” so I assume playing at 45.50”.  I get confused with the way TM measures now so if I am wrong please correct me.

I weighed the Qi35 head tonight as well and it weighed 194 grams with the 3/13 weights installed.  I put 3-1” strips of lead tape behind the front weight to raise the total head weight to 197/198 grams (wouldn’t settle) for me on the scale.

What are your thoughts because like you I want this shaft to work like the other two are.

I am also ordering the weight kit, the one I found on EBay the guy wanted $100.00 which I thought was a little high so I offered him $85.00. We will see if he accepts it or not.

Thanks for replying!

Yup, 44.25 without the head should be 45'5" or so. I think you might have been a little light in the head with the 13 and 3. I think that's the standard length weights at 45.75". Hopefully the lead helps. Good place to start.

The price for the weight kit from TM is like 70 bucks. But you may be able to pick up a single weight for about 12.99 there, if they have it in stock.  A friend of mine just grabbed a single 4 there this week.

My head weight is about 199 with my 15 and 7 weights.  My LS just over that.

Do you like the LS or the Core better?  I would like to try the TPT in a LS head.

I was playing both since release with the VB and VF and had similar results (with the weight forward in the core) then I found a really good set up with the core leaving the weight back but dropping down to lower ( 7*)  and it's been great.  The open face helped a lot. BS was better with the LS but dispersion was better with the core. Neither by a lot. The core shape has taken some time to get used to.

I just took the LS out this morning for the first time with the TPT and it's back in the running. I need to get more rounds in to answer. It was cold again this morning.  I've really wanted the LS to win out from the start on looks alone but will stick with whatever keeps me in position more often.

I got back from our spring break trip last night, and started messing around with golf shafts right away. 😆For now just installing in my heads and checking measurements, doing the waggle test, etc. I can definitely say the TPT shafts feel much more flexible than my gamers. Can't wait to get out and actually hit them!

I currently play my driver, 4W and 3H at D1 swingweight. Swapping in the TPT shafts bumped them all up into the D5 range. This was a bit surprising, especially because the driver shaft spec is 6g lighter than my gamer. It's actually measuring almost 10g lighter, fully prepped with adapter & grip. The TPT shafts are slightly longer (1/4" on driver) but I think that should only bump the swingweight 1-2 points. So the balance point of the TPT's must be significantly lower.

I know from previous experience that anything above D2-D3 is gonna be an issue for me, so I'll go ahead and trim the length right away. I guess switching to my cord grips with extra tape wraps will also add a bit of handle weight. Maybe those adjustments will bring me back into my swingweight comfort zone, without having to tinker with head weights.

Another interesting finding was the Hybrid shaft weight - according to spec sheets, the TPT Power 18 Hi should be 82.5g, versus my Alta CB 70S at 76g. Fully prepped, the TPT is only about a gram heavier, and I still need to trim 3/8" off the butt end. So they're essentially the same weight. The change in balance point and swingweight here is no surprise, since the Alta CB is counterbalanced. But I would have expected a heavier measurement from the TPT. It's probably a good thing, since I'll have a more direct comparison with fewer variables.

Got back from Mesquite, Nevada from the WLD Clash in the Canyon event Wednesday. A long drive back to Texas wishing that I could of used the TPT Nitro 21Hi during the competition, but probably not a good idea to put a new shaft into play this early without testing first. I am waiting for the local golf shop to install my grips and the hybrid shaft into my TM 790 UDI 2i since I do not use hybrids. Lots of rain in Texas so I am still waiting for the driving range to open up.

On a side note @DTorres, I got through the local qualifiers last Friday in Mesquite with a 384 yds drive in a crosswind on my 2nd set. Moved on to the 2nd group of Regional Qualifying in the afternoon. Top 3 qualify for the WLD World Championships at the end of the year in Colorado, but finished 7th in the afternoon group. A few yards here or there out of the 5 round robin matches and I maybe would of had an outside chance? Not bad representing the Senior or old men competing against the young bucks! Can't wait to get these shafts a try on the launch monitor and course next week. Hopefully the weather will be better than this week.

Killer job! How are you and the guys liking the new Pinnacle Ball? I haven’t competed since we were hitting those Volvik XTs. I know they went top flight then Bridgestone for a while

I was finally able to cut the TPT shafts to my exact preferred length, and re-grip this morning. All installed and looking great! The shafts are really eye-catching in person, and the graphics go especially well with the G430 color scheme. I got out for a quick bucket of balls before rain rolled in this afternoon.

I’ll write up a detailed review after I’m able to get these on Trackman once or twice, and get some real comparison data with my existing shafts. But initial impressions are very positive! All three TPT shafts feel extremely stable and smooth. I was expecting a very active feel and a lot of kick, based on the initial waggle. But this wasn’t the case at all. They just felt solid, all the way through impact. Overall feel of all shafts reminded me a bit of the blueboard profile that I normally gravitate to, maybe slightly more linear.

For all three clubs, I hit the ball very straight today, and very high. It didn’t seem like I was spinning the ball all that much, especially with how little left/right movement I was seeing. Launch is definitely up across the board, and I would guess that spin is down. Main thing today was just to make sure I’m OK with the feel- I’ll get on a simulator at least once this week and start generating some real data. Exciting stuff!
