Well Zinger you were spot on about Black Bear, Very tight with no where to bail, But for the money it is one of the best courses in MN by far!! Had a great time up there and played 27 holes on Friday. To anyone looking for a great course to play up north I would highly recommend playing there, Just make sure to set your expectations low before you tee off. As for Minnesota National, I would stay far away from there. We ended up leaving after 9 holes because the course was in terrible shape. We went in and talked to the course manager and he told us that they had laid off almost all of there grounds crew and are just doing the absolute minimum to the course. By the looks of the course and empty pro shop I think it is the beginning of the end for that course.

Hey! Glad you enjoyed it. I completely agree, it's a course that does not get much ink, but one of the most enjoyable in the state. Always in great shape but you'll never score well. Glad you had fun. I still need to play Northland.

Northland is great. Just be sure you're with a member that can help you read the putts. The lake effect is CRAZY there!

[/quote]I need to try that. I love Duluth. I'm actually going to be heading up there soon like I said and I would love to even just drive by it. Is the course in the West End or up on that area overlooking Superior in Duluth just south of Downtown?

So i am headed South on Sunday to play The Legends for the first time, Kinda off my game right now due to injury but I have a free round there that I won in a scramble last year and don't want it to go to waste. Just wondering what to expect there and prepare myself for what will probably be a struggle with my crappy wrist that is falling apart, Thanks for any tips/info.

Legends is a solid track. Overpriced (but you are playing for free so you don't care). You won't need to hit the driver very often but you can if you want. Mix of tight and wide open par 4's, good greens, lots of water.

Best hole on the course is the first par 3 on the back, 13 I believe. Beautiful, tough shot all over water to a green that can have some brutal pin positions.

Shouldn't have any problem having a good time. Awesome clubhouse for a beer and food after the round.

This won't surprise me. I'm guessing Phalen will open again as well as they won't close no matter if there is a hurricane forecast. I've been told they make the most for the city of all the St. Paul publics. Rock hard greens, crappy fairways, but eh, we gotta get as much stick in as possible as we are MNans.

Have you played Phalen yet this year? They got a new head green keeper a few year back and the coarse was in amazing shape the whole year. If you think its that bad go play Como.

The reason that they make the most for St Paul course is because its the best shape all year.
