2024 TaylorMade TP5X v. Titleist Left Dash

Has anyone compared the latest TaylorMade TP5X versus the Titleist Left Dash? Any thoughts? How's the spin compare - both driver and short game? Also how do they compare in firmness and height? Any feedback you can provide would be appreciated. Thanks.

I actually just did ball fitting a few weeks ago and those two were part of my fitting, in addition to Callaway Chrome Tour TD and Srixon XV.

Between TP5x and Dash, they are quite different despite getting lumped together fairly often. First off, the TP is quite softer feeling than the Dash. It was the most stark difference between the dash and the three non-dash balls. Many people will hate how hard dash feels and immediately prefer TP for that reason.

Distance, dash was longer across the board but the greatest difference was on the driver. Irons it was longer than the TP5x but not by enough to warrant it as a make or break.

TP launched and peaked lower than Dash, and had a few MPH less on ball speed.

Lastly, spin. The TP spun more than across the board than dash which shouldn't be a surprise. However the TP was also quite erratic with its spin. Sometimes randomly jumping 1000+ rpms on good shots, whole Dash remained quite consistent.

I ended up settling on Dash out of all 4. I really liked the feel of TP5x but it was the shortest and widest range on spin out of all 4.

Thanks! Did you get a chance to compare them for short game - specifically how they spun on shorter shots/chipping, etc.?

The shortest I went is a half wedge shot. The spin there was consistent with my other observation. The dash, while low spinning was consistent. The TP5x was not far off then I would get some random ones that spun a lot.

I know some guys need to chip and putt with the ball, which I 100% understand, but I was fine without it. For me, I can adjust to extra run out or extra checking as long as it's consistent. I need it predictable, first and foremost. Plus I have been using high compression balls for years so feel wasn't a major concern for me.

I never compared the TP5x against the Dash, only the XV, but I completely agree with you on the TP5x's spin inconsistency. I had a similar experience during my testing last season. With wedge shots, I saw spin numbers fluctuate from 8,500 to over 10,000 RPM on seemingly identical strikes, making it tough to trust. I believe Taylormade did a fine PR job managing Rory's switch to the TP5. I think Rory admittedly struggled, even at his swing speed, controlling the spin and trajectory of wedge shots. Take that for what it's worth.

How did the xv fair in your testing?

It actually stacked up really well. A bit softer than dash, for sure. It was almost interchangeable with dash until the driver. Driver was an average of about 7 yards longer with the dash over XV.

Honestly, I could happily play dash, CTTD or XV. TP5x was the only one of the four that I knew would not work just due to the inconsistent, and wide ranging, spin.

I'm thinking about trying left dash. I'm not too fond of the new V1 and 1x models. Prefer the 2023 iteration.
