etodd
Does anyone have any more info on these wedges? I know the recent opinions on Edel as a whole are severely mixed, but to stay of the politics... The new CG tech looks cool for some heel or toe weight, and the grinds look great combined with a ton of bounce options. Posting some pics for the thread: Quote Currently in a driver predicament... want2bpro
I was fit for the SMS wedges at CC last year- they felt great, and I'm enjoying them Then i happened to leave my 58 degree next to a green, and someone jacked it- so I am looking fwd to trying the new sms Pro wedge that I should get next week! Did you wind up with these?

I would like to know as well...their customer support was very kind when building my one length set. I own the 56 and 50 degree SMS Pro wedges. If you have a particular head weight desired I would recommend calling to get all the options now that they have moved away from the 3 weight ports. The new wedges are very nice and sleek looking and the microgrooves on the face look awesome. I didn't get any flip weights I just have standard. Overall I love these wedges, I built them with 8 iron spinner trick at 8 iron length so a bit niche, but man I hit them good. I even messaged the engineer at Edel on linked in that designed them, seems like a nice early career engineer that loves what he does and is proud of the product. 1 Quote Driver: Mizuno STZ-230 Limited Edition White stock HZRDUS Blue (S) 5 Wood: Cobra LTDx stock HZRDUS Smoke i10 (S) 5, 6 Hybrids: PXG Gen 5 Aerotech Steelfiber HLS 780R Irons 7-P: Edel SMS Pro Aerotech Steelfiber i95 R (36.5" one length, 1 deg strong) Wedges (49 & 55): Edel SMS Pro Aerotech Steelfiber i95 S (36.5" one length, 8-iron spinners) Putter: Taylor Made Spider ZT Long 🧹 Balls: PXG Extreme Tour (2024)

J13
The new line was designed to make more sense throughout the loft and grind offerings. Also, the inclusion of bounce was important for players with varying AOA. They are better in every way compared to the previous SMS wedge. I was always irritated by the lack of bounce values of any kind in the specs.

I understand that these new wedges have some kind of bounce values provided. The previous version of the wedges did not. David Edel didn't allow bounce values to be published. Also, it is important to know whether the bounce values are "effective" or actual bounce.

Do you know which stamp effective / actual? My understanding is that most OEMs give "effective" bounce, but I don't know that for sure or if some give actual bounce instead. They should provide both numbers because they are useful in different ways. Effective bounce (and grind) indicates how the wedge will play for short game shots. Actual bounce provides a minimum shaft lean for full shots if you don't want bounce interaction with the turf.

Previous bounces weren't published because most people would lose their mind seeing 35* of bounce on a wedge despite needing it. The industry got people used to seeing 10 or 12 when in reality those were all made up bounce values. Vokey, Cleveland, doesn't matter. David wasn't against it but instead more of a sales thing. Bounce numbers on the new wedges I believe, are effective bounce. I understand what you're saying about overall and effective bounce but that would confuse 99.9999% of golfers so it's not done. Companies have to cater to the masses and they already don't understand grind and bounce as it is. 1 Quote Cally Ai Smoke Triple Max 9* / Fuji VB TR 6X Cally Ai Smoke Mini 11.5* / Fuji VB Plus 7X Cally BB 815 Alpha 18* / Veylix Rome 988 Ping IBlueprint S / I230 / 5-PW / DGX100 Ping S159 50S, 54H, 60H / S400 TM ZT Spider
